My approach includes evidence-based treatment such as Cognitive-Behavioral (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment (ACT), Dialectical Behavioral (DBT), Radically Open DBT, somatic, cognitive-processing, Internal Family Systems, and trauma-informed therapy.
I help people who struggle with compulsive, emotional, or binge eating or chronic dieting to find peace with their body, weight, food, and themselves. Preoccupation with not feeling "good enough" and perfectionism, trauma, and anxiety about life transitions and relationships can often be factors in disordered eating and body image. Getting in touch with your inner wisdom, your body's cues, and your needs are part of the journey to healing on an emotional, physical, and spiritual level.

I aim to mirror the goodness that is already within you to help you achieve a more fulfilling life. Although I have experience with many different psychiatric conditions, in private practice I focus on patients and their struggles with anxiety, depression, bipolar, OCD, PTSD, and relationship issues.

I don't believe in a one-size-fits-all approach, and while I’m trained in psychodynamic therapy, I integrate techniques like EMDR, CBT, DBT, and somatic therapy to create a treatment plan that (actually) works for YOU.
Hi, I'm Erika! I’m passionate about supporting individuals (ages 14+), couples, and families navigate many of life's challenges. My areas of focus are anxiety/depression, eating disorders, relationship issues, addiction, or past trauma. Maybe you've experienced sexual assault, or struggle with an eating disorder like anorexia, binge eating, or body image concerns. Perhaps you're navigating relationship struggles (and want to disrupt core patterns that aren’t working), or addiction (including substance use, sex addiction, or porn addiction). Whatever your battle, I offer a safe and supportive space to heal and rediscover yourself.

Do you experience overwhelming thoughts and/or emotions? Do you experience inner-conflict and self doubt? Do you find yourself stuck in old patterns/behaviors and unsure of how to change them? For many these experiences can result in feeling frustrated, scared, hopeless and alone, often coping in self-damaging ways. These are normal responses to trauma and overwhelming/painful experiences. While I incorporate more traditional evidenced based modalities such as CBT, and DBT, I also recognize that emotions, implicit memories and trauma can get stuck in the body, which is why talk therapy alone often isn’t enough.

Dialectical Behavior (DBT) Therapists

Who is DBT for?

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is designed for people who experience extreme emotional suffering because they lack the skills of emotion regulation and distress tolerance. The basic affliction can underlie a wide range of conditions, from borderline and other personality disorders to PTSD and treatment-resistant anxiety and depression. The therapy is helpful to those whose emotional reactivity is so intense it is disruptive to everyday functioning and leads to frequent crises.

Why do people need DBT?

The ability to regulate emotions is a core psychological skill that enables people to function in life and pay attention to the world outside themselves; it is consistently associated with well-being. DBT is designed to help people learn how to manage and regulate their emotions. Originally developed to treat people with borderline personality disorder whose extreme emotional suffering led to self-harming behavior and suicide attempts, the therapy is now applied to other conditions involving emotion dysregulation, particularly when other treatments have failed.

What happens in DBT?

Individuals meet weekly with their therapist to discuss their experiences relating to moods, behavior, and skills. Using checklists they maintain, they review emotional experiences and positive practices they engage in. The diaries help individuals discern what led up to a specific problem encountered, this is followed by discussion of the consequences of their actions. In addition, individuals may meet in class-like small groups to learn skills such as mindfulness, emotion regulation and distress tolerance.

How long does DBT last?

Because it is intended to establish long-lasting behavioral change among those with persistent problems, DBT is designed to last six months to a year. DBT includes both weekly sessions of individual therapy and weekly skills-training sessions conducted in small groups. Studies of DBT have documented improvement within a year of treatment, particularly in controlling self-harmful behavior; nevertheless, individuals may require therapy for several years.
