During this time, I have worked with patients dealing with depression, anxiety, self-esteem, poor interpersonal skills, substance issues, and other mental health concerns.
So much of what we experience in our early life impacts who we are as adults. Whatever barrier or struggle you may be experiencing; I am here to go through this therapeutic journey of self-understanding in order to build on the strengths you inherently have and to achieve a life of resiliency and fulfillment. A motto I live by is “Hold the vision and trust the process.” It can be a hard decision knowing that you need support and seeking it out. For that I am grateful that you have taken this step in getting the support you deserve.

Whether you are struggling with overcoming trauma, anxiety, relational issues, or spiritual struggles, my focus is on empowering you to take ownership of your narrative, discover your strengths, and achieve realistic goals.
Painful experiences can leave us at a crossroads or discouraged about our faith when breakthrough has yet to occur. Have you been feeling “stuck” in negative thoughts? Ruminating thoughts and triggers are common responses to trauma and anxiety. Battling these distressing responses is not only difficult but exhausting. Trying to understand the role faith plays can be confusing. I am passionate about normalizing what you are going through and identifying barriers that are preventing you from living life fully. Everyone responds differently to distressing experiences and therefore have unique needs within the healing process.

It's a challenge to be in this world. You want to be considerate and kind; you also want to fulfill your potential. Were you were raised with a lot of "shoulds"? Were you told to control or ignore your feelings? Sometimes tremendous potential for love can be blocked by pain from the past, or anxiety about the future. But, you can learn to accept and love yourself. And that can change your life. Here's an old, fun riddle about therapy: "How many therapists does it take to change a light bulb?" "One... but the lightbulb has to want to change." My ideal client may not know how to change yet, but they want to change.

I have a specialization working with couples, families and individuals; as well as substance abuse/chemical dependency and addiction treatment (porn, sex & gambling). In many cases the depressed and anxious client is self medicating in some way to alter underlying feelings of depression, anxiety and intimacy/attachment issues. I use Somatic Experiencing, a very effective treatment for trauma/PTSD symptoms, helping the body and mind regulate itself. Clients in relationships with loved ones addicted or abusing substances can benefit from therapy to learn how to take care of themselves so as to identify when they’re enabling.

Anxiety Therapists

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?

Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?

The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?

Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?

Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
