I use interventions based on emotion-focused, psychodynamic, existential, and humanistic theories and therapy.
You're on a merry-go-round of your thoughts, with the fake horses as concerns about school/work and your relationships. As much as you try to do everything right, something can still go wrong. Or, you've tried to tell the story in English, but it just doesn’t translate when you talk about growing up Latinx in the US. I’m a first generation Latinx therapist creating space for individuals to experience radical self-compassion. My style is warm and authentic, with some humor. I work with clients struggling with anxiety, perfectionism, and generational differences within Latinx culture. I support clients through better understanding

Building a strong connection with my clients is very important to me and is essential to the treatment process. I strive to be transparent, authentic, empathetic, non-judgmental, supportive, and empowering towards my clients. I use a humanistic approach to drive rapport and encourage change. I also approach my sessions via a trauma-informed lens. It is extremely important to me that my clients feel seen and heard above all else. I use humor and self-disclosure (when appropriate) during sessions to strengthen connection and client comfortability.

My training is deeply rooted in attachment theory and I have an existential-humanistic approach to life, which means I would like to support you in the present moment with interventions that work for you "right now" and potentially explore life patterns that are keeping you from reaching your full potential.
Welcome and congratulations on taking this step. I am a licensed Clinical Psychologist in California and have been working in the counseling field for over 20 years. Prior to my counseling career I was an International Montessori Teacher for more than a decade. I am originally from Austria and moved to California 25 years ago. I have also worked a great deal in animal assisted therapy including Equine Therapy and am strong believer that animals provide meaningful emotional support.

Humanistic Therapists

How does humanistic therapy work?

One tenet of humanistic therapy is that people are good. The humanistic approach is concerned with a person’s ability to accept oneself. It likewise encourages a person to overcome self-criticism and self-defeating tendencies, as well as disapproval from others. This approach also emphasizes self-actualization and treating an individual as a whole person. A foundation of this therapy type: The patient is the expert in their life, and treatment often takes the individual’s lead.

Is humanistic therapy evidence-based?

Humanistic therapy is an evidence-based practice. Research has found that humanistic therapy can lead to significant improvement, and for some people it can be just as effective as other therapies, such as Cognitive behavioral therapy. The benefits of humanistic therapy are enduring.

How long does humanistic therapy last?

The goal of humanistic therapy is to understand a person’s day-to-day experiences. While sessions can be short-term and last over a few months, therapy can sometimes continue beyond that and last up to a year or more. And because patients learn the theory behind humanistic therapy during treatment, they can also practice its tenets throughout life after therapy sessions have been completed.

Is humanistic therapy effective?

According to research, many patients find success with humanistic therapy. Researchers note that the therapy is particularly useful in addressing poor self-esteem and self-sabotage, as well as improving conditions including anxiety and depression. Improvements in problem areas can be long standing, as individuals can continue working on themselves by using the tools they’ve learned during treatment.
