I have a background of working with couples coming out of addiction, working with addictive family systems, and utilizing EMDR to process traumatic experiences.
I have a deep desire to assist those who are looking for assistance in facing their traumas, connecting with their significant others, and improving the system rather than just an individual. I find the most meaning in my treatment of couples, families, and those working through traumas.

In addition to working with athletes, I’m passionate about working with college students, couples, adults, & children who are struggling with anxiety, depression, life transitions, difficulties with shame & guilt, relationship issues, and grief & loss.
Do you find that your identity has been strongly defined by your athletic career? Are you dealing with an injury that’s keeping you from participating in the sport you love or competing at the level you once were at? Do you wonder who you are apart from athletics now that you are nearing the end of your athletic career? Do you miss your sport now that you have retired or no longer play at the same competitive level? As a retired collegiate athlete myself, I know that being an athlete shapes your identity in a profound way. I’m here to explore how athletics has shaped who you are, even amidst adversity and challenges.

This awareness underlies a fully present, genuine therapeutic relationship with each patient, whatever your therapeutic goals.
I'm a clinical and forensic psychologist and certified Jungian analyst, over 30 years experience providing treatment and assessment, both depth-oriented and forensic. My practice is guided by my awareness of the instrumental nature of the unconscious in all that we are and do. I've provided intervention and treatment for families suffering child abuse, criminal problems, drug abuse, and mild to severe mental disorders. For 8 years I served on our State panel evaluating sex offenders in prisons. I'm committed to working with the diverse world with an open mind and heart. Check out my new book: The Schizophrenia Complex (Chiron, 2022)

I have given marriage seminars and workshops in the last few years to improve communication skills, conflict resolution, and regain the friendship and intimacy in the relationship.
By creating a safe environment, I seek to understand each person, their unique story and to bring about health, fulfillment and support. I believe every individual, couple and family has a story they bring into therapy that includes not only their situation at hand, but a personal, family and diverse experiential history. My approach in therapy is tailored toward the uniqueness of each person. Together, we will work towards facilitating more self-understanding, more effective ways of handling life challenges, and strengthening relationships with others.

I enjoy working with both individuals and couples in-person and via teletherapy.
Are you having a challenging time managing life stressors, emotions, or relationships? If so, therapy might be an excellent tool for you! My ideal client is an adult who has experienced childhood trauma and currently suffers from anxiety, depression, and relationship challenges. I believe that a good fit is key to the therapeutic process and clients’ overall success! Which is why I am also passionate about client comfort and recognize that clients sometimes feel more confident opening up in different environments. For that reason, I can accommodate sessions in non-traditional therapeutic settings (beaches, parks, etc.)

If you or a loved one is looking for relief and a happier relationship, call me for a free consultation.
Families are required to manage multiple stressors and expectations in day to day life. Over time, we see the toll it takes on them. Couples struggle with communication, intimacy and sharing common goals. Finding time to nurture the relationship and improve closeness sometimes involves outside support. If left untreated, we see couples and families experiencing depression, anxiety and often times separation. Regaining connections, coping and feeling better about yourself is the goal of my practice. Having an accurate assessment, diagnosis and treatment plan is the best place to begin.

Couples Counseling Therapists

Does couples counseling work?

Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.

When should a couple seek counseling?

Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.

How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?

The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.

How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?

The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
