In therapy we can meet our hu man complexity with kindness and curiosity.
Some difficulties we cannot resolve on our own and it is courageous to seek support. Therapy with me unfolds as a deep conversation. I meet you where you are with compassion and together we explore where these stuck places are. Many of my clients struggle with depression, substance use, anger, intimate relationships, work issues, stress, and a general feeling that life is not fulfilling in some way.

The only thing scarier than change, is thinking things will never change. We love our partner, yet we fear love may not be enough. The relationship seems stuck. We constantly miscommunicate. We fight even when there’s nothing wrong. It doesn’t have to be like this and we don't have to find a new partner to have a new relationship. I honor the courage and strength it takes to ask for help. Together we will slow down the process, identify harmful relational patterns, and replace those dysfunctional patterns with new more satisfying interactions. My specialty is working with couples and individuals.

You've been trying to live up to cultural, social, & others’ expectations. Caught up in the “shoulds,” you have overextended yourself to the point of burnout. Maybe you want to explore your sexuality & gender identity but shame gets in the way because these topics have been considered taboo. You find it difficult to set boundaries & navigate enmeshed family structures. You often feel like an actor in your own life, performing & wearing masks just to get by. This can be so draining & express itself as anxiety, depression, & avoidance. You don’t have to do this alone!

I work with individuals, adults and children, who are struggling with relationships, hoping to make peace with overwhelming trauma histories, or seeking support to cope with difficult life transitions. What have you been through, and how is it affecting you? When you went through some serious trauma, it can affect your everyday life and sometimes feel like it happened yesterday. It is my commitment to provide the highest quality of attention and support to each individual and couple and healing is the aim. I am also consistently expanding my therapy skills to provide the most relevant tools to support my clients. From a theoretical perspective, I primarily utilize a combination of cognitive, relational, and psychodynamic approaches. I am depth-oriented and am always seeking to explore the deeper layers of any experience.

I meet people where they are, not where the world expects them to be.‘You feel it before you know it.’ is my mantra. We all possess the ability for emotional attunement for ourselves and those in our lives. I help clients hone this to allow themselves to see their internal operating systems, improve communication, and navigate life’s many challenges. Being neurodivergent, I identify as jazz handsy, and enjoy working with the neurospicy.

I work with people who face challenges that often arise but are not exclusive to the second half of life such as: the trauma of illness & death, caring for aging parents, loss of satisfaction or sense of meaning in relationships and work, loss of a job, and/or loneliness. I also work with folks suffering from love addiction or love avoidance. These challenges can often be baffling and carry symptoms such as depression, fear and anxiety. The rational mind may understand what is going on but somehow the emotional and physical body can't always take solace in rational solutions.

I care deeply about supporting you on your evolving journey towards healing and returning to the truth of who you really are, and I will honor your autonomy and unique life experience as essential to your growth and unfolding. Coming from a first-gen immigrant family, I know that our lives can often be impacted by layers of familial & cultural pressures, trauma, and childhood wounding. I hold compassionate space to explore these aspects of experience through a holistic and trauma-informed lens. As a relational and integrative therapist, I use a variety of approaches including EMDR.

I work with folks of all walks and identities, clear or uncertain, individually and in relationship. Life transitions that create doubt, confusion, and self-reproach are also opportunities for discovery, restructuring, and rebirth. Some that I've explored deeply include single parenthood, non-monogamous intimacy, alienation from family of origin, psychedelic exploration, and activist social/political engagement. Whether these are your identified areas of work or not, a spirit of exploration, patience, and curiosity will animate my interest in who you are and how you experience life.

I offer couple counseling, family therapy, individual therapy, and grief counseling. Some clients reach out because their depression won’t lift or their anxiety holds them back. Others want help to gather their otherwise scattered attention so that they may focus on what matters most. Many clients want to heal from traumatic conditions while others yearn for relief from unrelenting grief. I support people facing a daunting diagnosis, a chronic pain condition, or a major life transition. And I help those who are realizing a shift in their family dynamics, their ro mantic relationships, or their spiritual views.

The clients I work best with are battling with the effects of relational trauma, which can be especially difficult because most of us don’t even know what relational trauma is. You might think you had a happy childhood, but now as an adult you find yourself struggling in relationships of all kinds. You don’t know how to set boundaries. You feel selfish when you put yourself first. You feel guilty giving people negative feedback The bottom line is on a deep level you feel that it’s wrong to be your true self if it will inconvenience someone else.

We all have the capacity to feel a full array of emotions, which serve to both protect us and connect us to others. However, often due to socialization, family of origin, or individual temperament, we learn that some emotions are dangerous to feel and express. Through individual therapy, the therapist is the "trusted other" who can help both acknowledge and witness the emotions that may have been long hidden. When these emotions are uncovered, we can more easily discover our true want and needs.

I can assure you there is a true and meaningful answer to these questions, and many more, that will allow you to see love, life, and self in new light.
Even on your worst day I want you to be able to move forward. Through my own healing process, I realized the importance of having unbiased feedback. It allows you to ask the big questions- what does it all mean, what is self love, how does trauma get healed, who is the right person to help me figure it out? Sometime healing is best served and understood by someone who identifies with the same cultural representation as you.

Male Therapists

As a man, why might I want to see a male therapist?

There are many reasons a man might wish to work with a male therapist, including a degree of shared identity, which may help client and therapist connect to each other and allow for a more free-flowing discussion of issues that can be deeply personal. Some men may feel more comfortable talking to a male therapist about relationship concerns, the pressures they feel around the roles society and family place on men, career or job challenges, self-esteem, or anger problems. For some men who have not had a male role models in their lives, a good male therapist may be especially helpful.

How can I find out about a therapist’s experience treating men?

Individuals looking for treatment should feel comfortable directly asking a therapist about their history treating men overall and the issues that arise in therapy with men. A good therapist will be happy to discuss such matters as well as their educational background, approach to treatment, and how they think they can aid a prospective client. Prospective clients should also ask what the expectation is for treatment, and what the fee structure is, and whether and which insurance plans are accepted.

Can clients benefit from having a therapist of the same gender?

Therapy is not gender-specific, but some men as well as women feel more comfortable opening up about their experiences and history with a male therapist. An individual may feel that they have to explain less background information and be on the same page more quickly, particularly when discussing gender-specific challenges, in the case of male clients. Some women have prior negative experiences with women that predispose them to prefer working with a male in therapy. That said, a good clinician can transcend most if not all gender concerns. Ultimately, the most important factor in therapy is the connection and trust the client is able to build with the practitioner.

Would a male therapist have specific training in treating men?

Generally, no. There are no certifications for treating men specifically, but there are continuing education classes that therapists may take that focus on treating men as a group. There are many therapists who focus on men and male issues in their treatment and therefore have experience and expertise in this domain.
