I utilize Cognitive Behavior Therapy (how our thoughts and beliefs influence our feelings and behavior) coupled within a psychodynamic frame (what created and sustains our approach and responses to life).
My approach is to meet you where you are, with a comfortable, self-paced style. Clients have described me as easy to talk to, caring, helpful and non-judgmental. I have decades of experience working with those new (or familiar) to therapy, with life stressors, relationship challenges, mood instability, family dynamics and/or substance misuse. We'll start with time to understand the issues and how they cause problems for you and then learn how best to navigate. The outcome might be a path of taking action for change, managing thoughts and feelings, achieving psychological growth and peace, and/or a practice of acceptance.

I offer affordable, quality therapy for those yearning to identify and change dysfunctional thinking, behavior, and emotional responses. Life is stressful enough, that the additional financial cost of therapy should not increase that stress. I believe in offering a sliding scale to those that actively want to change their lives. My training uses a Psychodynamic approach (self awareness of how you feel immobilized) and integrates Cognitive Behavioral Therapy with Strength based interventions. This means we work collaboratively, in order to actively change negative thought processes, into patterns that elevate your life rather than hinder your true potential. office locations: MV& Novato.

I offer a sliding scale to those in need during these hard times. Using a depth- psychodynamic approach, I work with individuals who seek direction and a deeper understanding of their inner & outer worlds. I am especially fond of working with the quarterlifers, early 20s-late 30s. Sessions may consist of: exploring childhood patterns, relationships and attachment styles; analyzing dreams; inner child and shadow work; strengthening trust in your intuition; coaching around manifesting your life goals; somatic and mindfulness exercises; and compassionate confrontation around where you are stuck or blocking the progress of your healing.

I practice from a Psychodynamic framework informed by Object Relations, CBT, and Internal Family Systems (IFS).
I have many years of experience and training and feel fortunate to work with adults, couples and teens. I find that most clients come to me when their old ways of coping are no longer working (or they are unhealthy) and the stress is too much! Why do it alone? I hold the hope for my clients when they aren't able.

I help individuals and families navigate the perilous course of finding solutions while we work to improve serenity and sanity for all. Individual work is relational w/ psychodynamic and a Real World approach. I have developed the “Stress-Induced Impaired Coping" model for family system distress and recovery. I have had extensive training in psychodynamic-developmental, family systems, cognitive, Gestalt, somatic, and mindfulness oriented modalities of psychotherapy, and will apply insights and "tools of these trades" in our work together.
I believe human beings change and develop throughout their life span. In some 30 years of practicing psychotherapy I have come to view most emotional symptoms and all relationship crises as opportunities for re-engaging and supporting aspects of self development. I was educated in Germany and the US: my professional experience ranges from work in very traditional clinical settings to being a therapist and group facilitator for staff at the Esalen Institute.

I have extensive training in Jungian, Psychodynamic / Attachment orientations which include: guided imagery, Sandplay, and dream work.
Cultivating meaningful-healthy relationships may be especially difficult when our sense of self is overshadowed by traumatic and emotionally painful experiences. My approach to the therapy process focuses on helping foster your innate strengths and resiliency while exploring your vulnerabilities and concerns. Together we help you build a greater understanding of yourself through healing limiting patterns, fears, and beliefs. In this way, you become rooted in a life grounded in meaning, aliveness, and depth. I believe that building a stronger relationship with yourself can help cultivate healthier relationships with others, making them easier to initiate, maintain, and enjoy.

I incorporate many modalities but my base is in psychodynamic/relational therapy. This is a therapeutic approach that focuses on the interpersonal relationships and dynamics of an individual (I also explore the family system). This type of therapy emphasizes the importance of relationships in shaping an individual's well-being and mental health. Relational therapy aims to help clients explore and understand how their past and current relationships impact their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. By examining patterns of interaction, communication styles, and attachment styles, clients can gain insight into their relational struggles.

Psychodynamic Therapists

Is psychodynamic therapy evidence-based?

Studies have found psychodynamic therapy to be effective in treating conditions like social anxiety, eating disorders, chronic pain, some personality disorders, and depression; indeed, some studies have found it to be just as effective as CBT or medication. What’s more, several studies have found that the benefits of psychodynamic therapy tend to endure—even grow—long after treatment has ended.

How long does psychodynamic therapy last?

Unlike CBT and other more structured forms of therapy, psychodynamic therapy tends to be open-ended and may not be limited to a set number of sessions. It is common for clients to be in therapy for a year or longer and to see their therapist one to three times a week, though the exact schedule and timeline may vary depending on a client’s challenges and progress. However, brief psychodynamic therapy is available, which tends to be more goal-oriented and typically unfolds over 16 to 30 sessions.

Does psychodynamic therapy work?

Research finds that psychodynamic therapy can help someone manage or reduce symptoms of diagnosable mental health conditions like depression or anxiety. The modality may also offer a range of benefits that are harder to measure but just as valuable—such as increased self-worth or healthier relationships. While no therapy type will work for everyone, research and anecdotal evidence suggest that psychodynamic therapy can be highly effective.

What are the limitations of psychodynamic therapy?

Some meta-analyses have concluded that there is little evidence to suggest that psychodynamic therapy can effectively treat certain mental health conditions such as PTSD, OCD, or psychosis, though it is sometimes used to do so. More broadly, the open-ended, free-association structure of psychodynamic therapy may be frustrating for clients who prefer a more structured, time-limited, or goal-oriented approach.
