I work from an integrative narrative conversation that feeds from the wisdom of psychodynamic therapeutic work.
Relationships surround us - we are all in relationship with others and with ourselves. At times these relationships can be overwhelming; impacted by the tangible and intangible parts of living. Contact me, it's my honor to enter the sacred space that feels tender, unknown, disorganized, overwhelmed, and at times, even hopeless. My hope is to host a space where clients are freely able to share and explore their complexities in their unique experiences, values, and hopes.

I draw from a variety of therapeutic techniques such as family systems, solution focused, psychodynamic, and cognitive behavioral.
Everyone struggles with the challenges of life and everyone can use some help once in awhile to get through a difficult period. Challenging times can be scary and overwhelming, but they can also present an opportunity for growth and positive change if managed appropriately. In my practice, I work collaboratively and interactively with teens and adults to help identify and solve problems that get in the way of achieving life aspirations. The goal of therapy is to empower people to live richer and more satisfying lives. I use a compassionate approach when helping people make changes in their lives.

I use a cognitive-behavioral and psychodynamic approach for individuals aged 5 to 95.
My ideal client is someone who has been struggling with addictions of all kinds and is ready to receive help. I have worked with individuals and families affected by substance abuse, grief and loss, trauma, and PTSD for 30 years. I also work with families that have children with special needs. I am trained in neurofeedback and have been integrating with talk therapy for 27 years. This helps with anxiety, ADHD, aspergers, and substance abuse.

I treat depression and anxiety disorders from a psychodynamic perspective as well as a cognitive behavioral perspective.
I believe that many of the conflicts or presenting issues we come through the door with are a by product of our early experiences and the culmination of our current coping (which likely originated in our families). This automatic/unconscious coping is sometimes outdated, no longer functional and can limit our capacity for fullfillment and create troubling symptoms. In therapy, we can begin to explore the circumstances that may have originally warranted certain ways of being. This exploration can give way to the release of old patterns, pent up feelings and distorted core beliefs that have proven limiting in the present.

My approach is holistic, nurturing, and interactive, using various techniques like breath-work, guided imagery, inner child work, and other psychodynamic and attachment-focused processes.
Many of us have heard or believe that we're "too much" throughout our lives—too emotional, too challenging, too overwhelming, or too far gone to deserve the things, relationships, and lives we long for. This messaging can lead to difficulties setting boundaries, fear of independence, or isolation to avoid feelings of shame and disappointment when our needs go unmet. I believe that big emotions are not a sign that something is “wrong” with you, but rather are healthy signals seeking respect and attention to guide you toward your true self.

I primarily work from Rogerian, client-centered, and psychodynamic orientations.
Authentic communication and connection nourishes our essence. Being in tune with our deeper self helps us stay centered, feeling sure and confident of who we are. At times our head may spin from anxiety-provoking events or situations. We can learn to cope and self-regulate by getting in touch with our self in different ways. Nourishing our essence gives us a solid sense of self-worth, helping us feel safe and secure in the universe allowing us to take ownership of our journey through life, whether dealing with addiction, depression, anxiety, or relationships we can learn to live in the solution.

The modalities that I lean into depends on the individual needs, however I mostly utilize psychodynamic, client centered, and cognitive behavioral therapy.
One thing you will learn about me if we encounter one another is that I am a passionate advocate for practicing self-care, speaking to the self with honesty, and compassion. If you have an interest in therapy and don’t know where to start, have a fear that it’s not meant for you, or have a belief that “nothing will change,” please know that there is a place for you to freely express yourself, your fears, and even voice your hopes. Now, that place could be here with me, or it could be with another therapist, either way, just know that you are worth taking up the space.

As a Queer Woman of Color, I work best from an integrative psychodynamic approach while offering a culturally sensitive space to examine your thoughts and feelings.
Our creative and determined psyche allows us to “make it through” whatever life throws our way. We develop ideals, patterns, behaviors, and ways of thinking about the world, ourselves, and others. These things that at one point were meant to be protective and preserve us can overtime unknowingly to us be the very thing that gets in our way preventing us from living the life we ultimately desire. It can manifest itself in ways such as feeling frustrated with ourselves, feeling stuck, disconnected from our body, or even frozen with anxiety, depression, and maybe suicidal thoughts.

Psychodynamic Therapists

Is psychodynamic therapy evidence-based?

Studies have found psychodynamic therapy to be effective in treating conditions like social anxiety, eating disorders, chronic pain, some personality disorders, and depression; indeed, some studies have found it to be just as effective as CBT or medication. What’s more, several studies have found that the benefits of psychodynamic therapy tend to endure—even grow—long after treatment has ended.

How long does psychodynamic therapy last?

Unlike CBT and other more structured forms of therapy, psychodynamic therapy tends to be open-ended and may not be limited to a set number of sessions. It is common for clients to be in therapy for a year or longer and to see their therapist one to three times a week, though the exact schedule and timeline may vary depending on a client’s challenges and progress. However, brief psychodynamic therapy is available, which tends to be more goal-oriented and typically unfolds over 16 to 30 sessions.

Does psychodynamic therapy work?

Research finds that psychodynamic therapy can help someone manage or reduce symptoms of diagnosable mental health conditions like depression or anxiety. The modality may also offer a range of benefits that are harder to measure but just as valuable—such as increased self-worth or healthier relationships. While no therapy type will work for everyone, research and anecdotal evidence suggest that psychodynamic therapy can be highly effective.

What are the limitations of psychodynamic therapy?

Some meta-analyses have concluded that there is little evidence to suggest that psychodynamic therapy can effectively treat certain mental health conditions such as PTSD, OCD, or psychosis, though it is sometimes used to do so. More broadly, the open-ended, free-association structure of psychodynamic therapy may be frustrating for clients who prefer a more structured, time-limited, or goal-oriented approach.
