We understand that becoming a new parent, whether a mom or a dad, can bring about a range of emotions and challenges, including the prominence of anxiety during pregnancy or postpartum. It's important to recognize that mental health is crucial for new moms and dads, and seeking support is a brave and necessary step toward finding balance and regaining confidence. Parenthood is a transformative experience that sometimes leaves you feeling disconnected from your pre-parenting self.

Rarely is the step towards seeking help from a therapist easy, or without contemplation. Here is a description of what I've found works best. During our first meeting, I engage you in a process to help you find the best fit possible for your particular needs. Together we can work on defining the right type and style of treatment best for you. We can define specific needs for either long or short term problems that are specific to you individually. This short process will give needed direction to your personal journey.

In our rapidly changing world, filled with uncertainties and unknowns, it's easy to feel disconnected, hopeless, and stuck. However, self-understanding is the foundational step towards accessing the deeper aspects of yourself and fostering genuine connections. I'm here to provide a safe space where you are seen, heard, and cared for.

Therapy is guided self-exploration. Often, we repeat patterns because the emotional wounds suffered as children are being replayed in our adult life. We have a subconscious fear of experiencing feelings of abandonment and this drives codependent patterns of relating. Repeated neglect of yourself to get validation from an external being is the definition of codependency. You can break this cycle of trauma bonding and devote yourself to YOU.

Do you feel overwhelmed by intrusive thoughts/images or unrelenting anxiety? Are you constantly seeking reassurance or performing rituals to feel better? You may be experiencing OCD or an Anxiety disorder. These disorders operate on what we call the Vicious Cycle: 1) encounter trigger or obsessive thought/image 2) experience distress 3) engage in compulsions or safety behaviors, which leads to 4) relief. The frustrating part about this cycle is that the relief is short-lived. Before you know it, the intrusive thoughts/images and compulsions are back, taking up more time and mental resources to cope.

Obsessive-Compulsive (OCD) Therapists
How long does OCD treatment take?
Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is often treated on a weekly or twice-weekly schedule, depending on symptom severity and the client’s preferences. Some clients may start to see a noticeable improvement in symptoms in as little as six weeks, but it’s also possible, especially in more severe cases, for treatment to take several months to a year before significant progress is made.
What happens if OCD is not treated?
Some people with OCD, especially those with mild symptoms, may find that they are able to adapt reasonably well to life with the condition, even if their symptoms never resolve completely. However, many people, particularly those whose symptoms are severe at the outset, find that their obsessions and compulsions grow more intrusive with time, making it harder to maintain relationships, hold down a job, or navigate the world successfully.
Are there medications for OCD?
Medication can be used to treat OCD. The class of drugs most often prescribed are selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, or SSRIs, which include fluvoxamine (under the brand name Luvox), fluoxetine (Prozac), and sertraline (Zoloft), among others. In cases of treatment-resistant OCD, other classes of medication, such as tricyclic antidepressants or atypical antipsychotics, may be prescribed. Medication is frequently used in conjunction with therapy.
Can OCD come back after treatment?
Yes. Major life transitions, periods of stress, or other factors can cause symptoms to return or, if they were never fully eradicated, to ramp back up in intensity. For some, these relapses are brief and do not require additional treatment; identifying specific triggers and practicing the skills learned in therapy can help speed their course. For others, returning to therapy for a brief period can help address the underlying stress and strengthen coping mechanisms.
