Because of the Grief Recovery Method (GRM), I knew how to process things from my childhood that we couldn't talk about, or it would be hurtful for me to ask him to acknowledge.
When grief hasn't been fully addressed, it can look like depression, anxiety, isolation, addictive behaviors to escape the pain, workaholism, relationships that are fragile, a lack of motivation, or feeling overwhelming resentment and bitterness. And grief can occur after a variety of losses that many people don't realize: divorce, moving, graduation, empty nest, retirement, an impactful change in financial position or physical abilities, a pandemic. My clients acutely feel how unresolved grief has become an impediment to living their lives in full, having healthy relationships, and having the energy to go after their goals.

I have worked with clients in a variety of settings over the past 12 years addressing areas such as grief, depression, anxiety, chronic illness, caregiver fatigue, and stress.
Feeling stressed, anxious, grieving a loss, or trying to move through the fog? Perhaps frustrated with your relationships with others or even with yourself? Or maybe confused because life shaped you in ways you did not invite? The necessary adjustments to daily life or significant events often challenge our coping skills and what used to work no longer does. Cultivating self-acceptance, creating useful internal dialogue, and establishing boundaries are possible. We all have an inner voice, or guide, that is sometimes difficult to access due to trauma and life conditions that distract us from this inner knowing.

We deserve to be heard, to have rich, meaningful connections, and to experience joy even in the face of our struggles. Clients I work with long, amid life's curveballs and losses, to find calm within themselves and their relationships. Over time, they learn to recognize their humanity in imperfection and that self-compassion is vital to their inner peace, no matter the depth of pain their story holds.

The call to undergo therapy is both deeply personal and unique to the individual or couple who seeks it. It often requires confrontation with the deepest parts of oneself and the courage to embrace the unknown. I strongly believe in the transformative potential of the therapeutic process and the importance of deep relating. Through the use of dream work, imagery, somatic awareness, and storytelling, my goal is to co-create a safe and empathic environment where individuals are seen, heard, and empowered.

Grief Therapists
How long does therapy take for grief?
There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.
When should you seek therapy for grief?
Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.
Can grief be managed without therapy?
Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.
What happens if grief is left untreated?
Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
