I like helping people find contentment and happiness in their lives. I believe it is important to understand one's self and one's personal values and to make choices that are positive and life-affirming. I have had extensive experience working with people having experienced trauma and loss, relationship problems, and who have substance abuse problems. Creative people are also one of my specializations. My training is primarily psycho-dynamic along with cognitive-behavioral orientation. I believe mindfulness, spirituality and forgiveness are ways of helping alter patterns of behavior that can keep us stuck in our lives.

My services are tailored to work with children, adolescents, adults, couples and families who struggle with depression, anxiety, behavioral problems, learning disorders, trauma, domestic violence, parenting, life transitions and more.
During the seasons of life, we encounter various barriers, bumps, ditches and forks in the road that lead us in different directions leaving us feeling disconnected, stressed, anxious, depressed, confused and frustrated. As your therapist, my goal is to empower and collaboratively help you heal, resolve and work through issues, identify and explore your strengths and help you to reconnect with yourself and others in the way you envision. I offer a place that is welcoming, friendly, empathetic, supportive, nonjudgmental and safe in order for you to explore and discuss the issues that are impacting you and your life.

I worked with clients facing substance abuse, depression, anxiety, trauma, relationship, self-esteem, trauma, social skills, and grief.
Do you ever feel needing to speak with someone about what is going on your mind? Trying to process what is going on? Having relationships concerns with significant partners, friends, or family? Wanting to learn ways to cope with difficult feelings?

My focus is collaborative & affirming with knowledge of systemic oppression/racism, multi-generational abuse, LGBTQIA+, & intersectionality.
Searching for a therapist is a vulnerable decision. Often, we don’t know what causes feelings of anxiety, sadness, anger, & disconnection from our lives & our loved ones. My therapeutic style is grounded in process-based Gestalt therapy, with a focus on creating an emotionally safe environment to decrease internal shame & explore life concerns/struggles. My specialties include trauma, PTSD, & abuse (i.e., emotional, parental, religious, narcissistic, toxic relationships/marriages, high-control environments & betrayal). I work with attachment injuries, perfectionism, codependency, self-esteem, identity exploration & boundary setting.

My practice focuses on relationship-building whether it be with someone you are dating, a partner, immediate/extended family members, the workplace, etc. At the start in addition to getting to know each other, we will explore the obstacles to developing relationships that provide emotional intimacy, trust and support. Attachment style is explored in addition to the strengths revealed by shadow and dream work. Short- and long-term goal are continuously reviewed. Homework assignments are given that carry the momentum of gains forward.

"The pain is there; when you close one door on it, it knocks to come in somewhere else..." (Dr. Irvin D. Yalom). The process of psychotherapy is uncovering the pain, either developmental, situation specific or just existential, and working through it within the bounds of a trusting, accepting and empathetic therapeutic relationship. Throughout the process, I will help you uncover and become comfortable with your authentic self, while bringing into the consciousness some of the themes and motives that have unconsciously ruled your life and became a part of who you are.

Domestic Abuse Therapists

What are the most effective ways to recover from domestic abuse?

Leaving an abusive relationship requires tremendous courage, so survivors in treatment should recognize that they have already completed the most important step. Still, the trauma of physical or emotional abuse can be difficult to process and overcome. Therapy can help survivors process trauma, grief, and difficult emotions, treat relevant mental health symptoms, and create a new framework for boundaries and relationships in the future. For some, support groups can also be an invaluable outlet for healing.

When should an individual seek help for domestic abuse?

Victims of intimate partner violence should seek help immediately. It can take substantial time, planning, energy, and courage to leave an abusive relationship, but starting the process—by seeking therapy, calling the domestic violence hotline, or simply confiding in a loved one—will help them get there. Those who have left abusive relationships but haven’t sought treatment can also greatly benefit from therapy to process and heal from the experience.

What are the consequences of staying in an abusive relationship?

Remaining in an abusive relationship has serious repercussions. In addition to the ongoing threat of physical danger and emotional abuse, research shows that intimate partner violence is associated with a range of mental health disorders including depression, post-traumatic stress disorder, anxiety, and substance abuse. Therefore it’s important for individuals in an abusive relationship to seek help as soon as possible.

How can you get domestic abuse treatment for someone else?

It can be very complicated to identify and leave an abusive relationship; barriers include the threat of violence, financial instability, and family pressures. Those concerned about a loved one in an abusive relationship should talk to them about the situation, provide them with resources such as the domestic violence hotline, and introduce the idea of seeing a therapist due to their concern for the person’s safety and well-being.
