I provide evidence-based therapy such as cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), and schema therapy to help clients develop the insights and tools they need to make positive changes.
My style in therapy is to be active, non-judgmental, transparent, and solution-oriented, which is a good fit for clients who are ready to commit to learning new skills and setting concrete goals for change. If you've struggled to connect with therapists who stay too silent, don't share feedback or coping skills, or don't hold you accountable - I may be a good fit to help you on your journey. Clients have described me as calming, flexible, and supportive.

I am passionate about helping couples craft deeply nourishing and caring relationships. In our meetings we learn the skills required for loving another person well: good communication, problem solving and repair. We explore what it means for each person to feel loved and cared for and work toward a dance that honors each members unique preferences. I also help couples have important conversations about crafting a mutually satisfying shared vision of what a meaningful life is as romantic partners, parents and community members. We work on healing from painful past ruptures such as infidelity, substance use and frequent fighting.

Are stress and anxiety taking control and holding your child back from being their old selves and reaching their goals? Is it affecting important areas of life including school, friendships, and even fun? Are you searching for a therapist who understands and can provide support in growing and navigating challenges? You may not remember a time when things weren't so tough. You're in the right place if your child's ready to learn strategies to cope and restructure your thinking patterns so they feel more confident, empowered, and balanced. Most of all, you'd like them to enjoy their youth and feel comfortable in their skin.

What's wrong with me? I'm a failure. Everyone else has it together; why don't I? I know what I should do, I just can't do it. Why am I so angry, anxious, depressed? Will I ever find a relationship? My family hates my views, and I hate theirs. Menopause, wrinkles, saggy arms - I'm becoming an old woman! Every morning, I promise myself I'll stop drinking, and every day I drink again. I hate myself. Other people think I'm doing fine; what if they knew what a mess I actually am? I dread going to work every day, but I feel trapped. I hate my life. I don't know what to do. Sound familiar? Let's talk about it!

Childhood trauma, racism and microaggressions traumatize us and leave you feeling shame, embarrassment, anger and that you're not enough. You feel alone and in pain, and you deserve emotional peace by speaking to a professional who listens, provides safety, validating AND gently challenging your fears and negative thoughts of yourself. It is important that these false narratives do not define your self worth and perceptions of yourself, preventing YOU from identifying your own needs. I seek to work with children of immigrants, experiencing relationships issues NOW, due to childhood or recent trauma. Together, we process & heal.

I specialize in working with adults and couples on weight loss, weight management, and overcoming emotional eating through a holistic approach integrating mind, body, and spirit. Whether both partners need to lose weight or one partner struggles with emotional eating and/or weight loss, couples therapy provides space to address inner and outer obstacles that prevent reaching and maintaining a healthy weight— together. Working together to overcome struggle in itself can be a powerful process to strengthen a relationship. I also facilitate weight loss groups.

Schema Therapy

How does schema therapy work?

Schema therapy is based on the idea that maladaptive thought patterns formed in childhood—that other people can never be relied on, for example—can interfere with healthy functioning in adulthood. Accordingly, schema therapy works by directly targeting such unhealthy schemas, identifying their consequences, and replacing them with more adaptive ways of thinking. To this end, schema therapists aim to “reparent” the client by offering what they didn’t get in childhood—validation, for instance, or compassion—to reorient their worldview.

Is schema therapy evidence-based?

Schema therapy is still considered relatively new, and research on its efficacy is still in progress. However, some studies have concluded that it can be effective at treating certain mental health conditions, most notably personality disorders such as borderline personality disorder. Evidence for its efficacy in treating conditions like depression, anxiety, PTSD, and OCD is promising but less conclusive, and experts warn that much of the existing research is of low quality.

Is schema therapy a type of CBT?

Schema therapy is based on many principles of CBT, most notably the process of recognizing and challenging maladaptive thought patterns. But because schema therapy also draws from other approaches, including psychoanalysis and Gestalt therapy, it is not considered a form of CBT. It also typically delves deeper into the client’s childhood than does CBT.

How does schema therapy work?

Schema therapy does not call for a set number of sessions and is instead open-ended, with the treatment timeline depending on the client’s primary concern(s), progress, and preferences. Treatment that lasts between six months and two years is common, though many clients will start to see progress much earlier than that.
