I imagine many of us can identify with what it is like to dismiss our painful emotions or tuck away our undesirable experiences. To carry the weight of depression, past trauma, or endure distressing anxious thoughts about the future. However your heart may ache, you have arrived here to what I would hope you can consider as an invitation. An invitation to enter a process of healing, empowerment, growth and becoming. I believe one of our greatest human needs is to be seen and understood. I hope that this process that we choose to begin can be an affirming and collaborative one in which we tend to your goals together.

You may sense your potential for greater wellness, but feel weighed down by the pressure and uncertainty of our times. Perhaps you find yourself repeating patterns that no longer serve you, stuck in a job or relationships that don’t feel meaningful, or haunted by painful emotions and memories. Maybe you just feel something is off. No matter where you are on your journey, I welcome you exactly as you are and I’m honored to support you in meeting your highest potential. Highly-sensitive people, creatives, and disruptors craving healing and expansion often work with me to explore what’s keeping them stuck and create more harmony.

I work with individuals and couples. With my background in law and my passion for mental health, I help lawyers and busy professionals navigate relationship issues, overcome burnout, and tackle work-related stress head-on. Maybe it’s the pressure-cooker environment at work, where deadlines loom like storm clouds. Or perhaps it’s the all-too-familiar dance of miscommunication and misunderstandings in your relationship, leaving you both feeling like you're stuck in a tango with two left feet. I can help you tap into your inner strength, set boundaries, and confidently navigate life’s twists and turns.

I specialize in assisting adults who grapple with anxiety, depression, addiction, trauma, and more. My patients are often intelligent, hard-working individuals with a strong sense of perfectionism and a natural propensity for putting others before themselves. My role as a therapist is to assist people in uncovering the parts of themselves that may have been obscured by trauma, societal conditioning, and fear. In this process, I provide patients with education and help them understand the "why" behind their behaviors. This knowledge can be a powerful catalyst for change and personal growth.

For the big-hearted generous ones who may lose sight of themselves, the people pleasers who put themselves last, or the soft hearts who are in a rough patch, finding clarity that aligns with your heart, body and mind can be hard.

Countless clients have expressed this frustration to me: “I know I do this, and I know why I do it. But that hasn’t stopped me from doing it! I’ve been in therapy for ages. What am I doing wrong?” If this sounds like you, you’ve come to the right place. Although developing insight into your challenges is a great first step toward healing, unfortunately, it cannot transform your life because of one hard fact: you cannot out-think your pain!

Sometimes we walk through life feeling like an imposter, disconnected from ourselves and others. We can experience distress to the point that it's hard to enjoy the moment and successfully move through our day. Sometimes we can't explain why we feel the way we do, and we might tell ourselves we're 'broken'. When we suffer like this, it's possible that there's a connection to your family's past, and this wounding happened to someone other than yourself. My goal is to help you unpack these feelings, come to understand what is yours and what may be inherited, and move toward resolution and healing.

I came to practice psychotherapy because I believe life's crises can also provide opportunities for profound change and growth. Therapy should be a safe space for patients to assess what is meaningful and what has been outgrown, what has been lost and what can be gained by working through that loss. Many of my clients work (or play) in the arts; many are trauma survivors. I run an in-person weekly trauma group on Wednesday mornings from 10:30 to noon for women with PTSD from my Westwood office, close to UCLA. If you think you'd like to join, I'll meet with you to discuss it without charge.

Jewish Therapists

Why is it important for a therapist to be culturally sensitive?

Therapists and clients don’t need to share the same background to be able to work together, but a therapist whose training includes a focus on cultural competence may be better able to form a therapeutic bond with individuals from a range of backgrounds, as they will have experience tailoring their approach to each client—and will be prepared to acknowledge and consider the effects of cultural forces, such as discrimination, that may contribute to that client’s concerns. With a professional who has such training, a client should feel comfortable discussing sensitive issues without feeling that they need to self-censor.

How can I recognize an effective Jewish therapist?

As with members of any religious or ethnic group, just because two people happen to be Jewish does not guarantee that they will share the same values, knowledge, or experiences. A Jewish client seeking a therapist who shares their cultural identity, or for whom it’s important that a therapist share their religious beliefs, may want to discuss a professional’s Jewish background with them before beginning therapy. For someone who seeks justification for major life changes in their religious tradition, or in biblical writings, finding a therapist who is comfortable framing guidance in that context may be especially valuable.

Would a Jewish therapist have unique training?

No, but they should have the same training and certification as any other mental health professional, as well as experience with a range of evidence-based techniques such as cognitive-behavioral therapy or mindfulness-based therapy. A therapist with this type of experience should be able to help any client feel comfortable and safe, which is essential for a therapeutic alliance. Once this is established, a potential client may want to find out more about the therapist’s Jewish background.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience with Jewish clients?

A client can directly ask a therapist if they have extensive experience working with Jewish clients and if so, whether these individuals sought counseling for faith-related issues or marital or familial issues in which their Jewish background was a factor. A client may also wish to ask a potential therapist whether they incorporate Jewish teachings and values into their own professional work.

Who is included in Psychology Today’s directory of Jewish therapists?

The directory of Jewish therapists includes professionals who have opted to share their cultural background on their profiles. However, not all therapists choose to disclose their background, and they may not appear in search results for this reason. The directory also shows therapists who indicate that they have extensive experience working with Jewish clients and/or communities.
