I specialize in the treatment of eating disorders and the issues that commonly occur with this diagnosis including depression, self-mutilation, compulsive movement, anxiety and body dysmorphia.
Some things about me: I have a conversational style, I'm comfortable and casual in the room and I'm not afraid to ask tough questions. I'm not the therapist for you if you are looking for a "blank slate." This is a team effort and I will do what it takes to get you the help you need. I have seen therapy work for a lot of people who thought it could never help them, so give me a call if you are unsure and we will figure it out together. It's time to take control back.

I treat a broad range of issues including body image/ eating disorders, anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship problems, and transitional issues.
Beginning therapy can be a scary and intimidating process, one that comes with many questions: Who should I work with? How does therapy work? What can I expect to get from therapy? Will it be useful for me? Therapy is an investment in yourself. It can deepen your self-awareness and lead to long-term change in your life.

I specialize in eating disorders ( anorexia, bulimia, binge eating).
Deciding to pursue therapy can be a big step. Some days you feel you need help, the next your convinced you can handle it all on your own. Ambivalence is normal; you don't need to be 100% ready. As your therapist, I strive to be authentic, compassionate, and honest with my clients. My goal is to provide a place where you feel comfortable being yourself. As a team, we'll identify what is working and where you may want change, we'll prioritize goals, and find tools to aid you in reaching those goals. With kindness, patience, and effort, change and recovery are within your reach.

Therapy is one of the few relationships in life where it can truly be just about you. I enjoy working with clients who are willing and wanting to change, but are struggling to find the best path to achieve this. I work with a diverse population, but most of my clients are in their 20s-40s struggling with past traumas or current stressors. I specialize in working with individuals experiencing anxiety, the need to be "perfect", relationship issues, eating disorders/body image issues and other aspects of adulting that can be stressful and daunting.

My areas of focus include eating disorders, relational issues, and relational trauma. I am passionate about helping those on a healing journey from narcissistic abuse, seeking self-identity, facing career challenges, or dealing with body image concerns. My therapeutic approach is grounded in psychodynamic, relational, person-centered, and evidence-based modalities—striving to blend depth psychology with solution-focused strategies. I aim to create a space fueled by empathy but not absent of directness, challenge, creativity and humor when appropriate.

I am an LMFT and specialize in using clinical Art Therapy in treatment for many issues such as anxiety, eating disorders and life transitions.
Making the decision to seek therapy can be difficult, whether it is for yourself, your child or a family member who is in need of support. I integrate the use of clinical Art Therapy to aid a client’s process and externalize challenges they may have, including issues of trauma, eating disorders, self-harm, grief and loss, medical trauma and major life transitions. I am dedicated to having clients feel empowered and to identify their strengths with self-acceptance and the healing process.

In addition, I also work assisting those with depression, anxiety, phobias, eating disorders, ADHD, LGBTQ identity issues, chemical dependency, anger management, divorce, sexuality, and relationship issues.
Everyone has within them the ability to attain personal growth by gaining insight into their unique strengths. During times of stress, this inner resilience can be called upon to guide them in discovering purpose and meaning in their lives, improving interpersonal relationships, and adapting to healthier patterns of relating to others. I take a collaborative, yet challenging approach in assisting children, adults, couples, and families on their path towards positive change. I use a solution-focused exploration of current struggles to help them break unhealthy patterns and develop coping skills and a sense of hope and strength.

I have worked with those contending with addiction, eating disorders, trauma, depression, and a range of other issues.
If you’re reading this, you may find yourself at a crossroads, grappling with transitions that leave you feeling overwhelmed, lost, and disconnected. Whether it’s changing careers, navigating a breakup, adjusting to single life after divorce, relocating, stepping into an unwanted role, aging, facing changes in your body, dealing with new social expectations, or confronting grief and loss, these experiences can stir a maelstrom of emotions—loss of identity, anxiety, and a sense of purposelessness.

My theoretical orientation is a combination of Psychodynamic therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, and mindfulness. What this means is we do spend time looking at our past, but also focus on what's not working in the present and building the skills you need in order to start making changes and to live a more fulfilling life.

Therapy is for everyone. Some attend due to symptoms of depression, anxiety, or other specific disorders; others seek help when experiencing social, familial, academic, or occupational difficulties; and still others pursue therapy to gain a deeper understanding of themselves and their purpose. While the path of every individual is unique, all can benefit from feeling seen, heard, understood, and validated; along with learning healthy coping mechanisms; developing communication and problem-solving skills to successfully address present and future challenges; and accomplishing objectives on the path to achieving self-actualization.

Our experiences shape who we are, how we see ourselves, and what we believe we're capable of. But those stories aren’t set in stone. Together, we can explore new possibilities, break free from old patterns, and rewrite the narrative. Just as each of us and our experiences are unique, therapy should reflect that same diversity and openness. You are uniquely you and the expert on your life, and I am here to create a safe, supportive, and compassionate space where you can uncover your needs, discover your voice, and begin making the changes that matter to you.

Eating Disorders Therapists

What happens in therapy for eating disorders?

In therapy for eating disorders, patients typically describe their eating and exercise behaviors, their patterns of eating in relation to stress, their beliefs about their body, the ways their eating behavior affects their relationships, and their desire (or lack of it) to change. Such information helps the therapist understand the origins of the disorder and the role it plays in the patient’s life, important for guiding treatment. Attitudes and feelings about food and eating, body weight, and physical appearance are common topics of discussion throughout treatment.

What therapy types help with eating disorders?

Once any acute medical or psychiatric emergency is resolved, psychoactive medication is often prescribed, requiring the supervision of a psychiatrist. In addition, patients receive some form of nutritional counseling along with one or more forms of psychotherapy. For adolescents, family-based treatment is empirically validated and considered the first line of treatment; parents and their children meet weekly with a clinician as the adults are coached on how to nourish and psychologically support the young patient. Adults typically receive some form of individual psychotherapy, intended to resolve the cognitive and behavioral disturbances that underlie the disorder and to relieve the mood disturbances that accompany it. In addition, patients may also be helped by group therapy.

What is the goal of therapy for eating disorders?

The most immediate goal of treatment for eating disorders is to save the life of people who are on a path of starving themselves to death or engaging in eating patterns that are doing irreparable physical harm to their body. Once the acute medical danger is past, therapy is required to understand the nature of the disordered eating and/or exercise patterns, establish healthy eating behavior, and to tackle the many erroneous beliefs and distorted self-perceptions that underlie eating disorders and continue to pose a threat to health and life. Therapy also addresses the impaired mood that not only accompanies eating disorders but intensifies the danger to health and life.

What are the limitations of therapy for eating disorders?

Therapy can be very helpful for eating disorders—but that can happen only after people recognize they have a condition that must be treated. Especially with anorexia, the distortions in self-image that accompany the disorder can keep people from acknowledging they have a problem. Individuals may in fact see their eating disorder as a badge of self-control. Those with binge-eating disorder may feel too ashamed to seek help. Therapy cannot help those who do not avail themselves of it.

How long does therapy last for eating disorders?

Because of their complexity, recovery from eating disorders is usually a long-term process—measured in months and years— often marked by setbacks and relapse. Some form of help, such as individual or group therapy, may be advisable for much of that time. It is a general rule of thumb that the longer the illness has endured and the dysregulated eating behavior has taken root, the longer treatment is likely to be needed.
