If you think we might work well together, or that I might work well with your child or teen, please reach out for an initial phone consultation.
Finding a trustworthy therapist can make life’s darkest moments more bearable. My curious yet straightforward therapeutic style creates a warm atmosphere that is conducive to sharing your story. Together, we will uncover what hinders your creative and/or career aspirations, explore unsettling tendencies, understand repetitive patterns in your relationships, and reveal what inhibits you from feeling emotionally fulfilled. My work also sources itself in the body, and I will aid you in contending with how to live in yours. Through our work together, you will come to know yourself in a way you haven’t before.

Your child is a source of light. But perhaps you've noticed their light has dimmed recently and you feel concerned. Perhaps your teen is falling behind in school, having difficulty connecting with their friends, or experiencing confusion as they explore their gender identity. Your young child may be having anger outbursts or challenges with their behavior at home. Adjusting to the post-COVID lifestyle might be causing ongoing worries and changes in mood or personality. Or your child might have experienced a major stressor like divorce, a death in the family, or even a traumatic event like a car accident or an act of violence.

I have worked with Addiction,Womens issues ( adolescent to adults), LGBTQA and AIDS/HIV.
I believe psychotherapy is a mutual journey between the therapist and the client. Though the waters can be rough, the adventure can be exciting and rewarding. It is an opportunity for the client to create a different way of being in the world and discover new narratives of their personal story. Whether depression, addiction, relational, or crisis, we will unpack the problem and find a solution. Specialized in trauma work with mindfulness and EMDR.

Please contact me for psychotherapy services to help your child manage the "politics" of the playground, creating a structure for "quality time" with your child, understanding the emotional milestones of your child or teenager, coping with grief from death or illness, drugs and alcohol, or divorce and co-parenting with an ex-spouse or partner.
As a child and adolescent therapist I bring warmth and compassion to my work. I have earned the confidence of my clients and admiration from my colleagues for my skills and expertise. I work with children and teenagers to feel more capable and confidant as they move through the challenges, excitement, and opportunities of their childhood. In my practice I work along side parents to develop a child's sense of safety, their capacity to manage their behaviors or self-regulate, enhance their feelings of connection and trust in themselves and others, enhance their capacity for play and learning, and deepen their self understanding.

Teen Therapists

What does therapy for teenagers look like?

When a therapist works with a teenager, the pair will talk about what the teen is struggling with and explore solutions, which may involve interpersonal skills, coping strategies, medication, or lifestyle changes related to sleep, diet, and exercise. Different therapists employ different modalities, but most involve a combination of conversation and skill building.

How long does therapy for teenagers generally take to work?

There’s variability in teenagers’ experiences and challenges; some may begin to improve from therapy within a few weeks while others may take several months or longer. Teens can discuss their progress with their therapist periodically to assess how they’re improving and any changes to the treatment plan that could potentially accelerate that progress.

How do you encourage a teenager to go to therapy?

It’s helpful to express your concern and love while framing therapy as an opportunity to explore a tool that could help improve their life; just like they practice baseball or dance, now they can practice their emotional skills. Give your teen control over the process where you can—maybe by weighing in on choice of therapist and signaling that therapy involves confidentiality, so a parent need not know all that is discussed in sessions.

How do you prepare teens for therapy?

You can prepare your teenager for therapy by describing what the process will look like and setting expectations for timeline, if requested. You can explain that the first session may begin with an assessment phase, that they can describe their experiences but that the therapist will ask questions too, and that it may take time to feel comfortable opening up. Ask how they’re feeling about the process and answer any questions calmly and supportively.
