As a therapist, sociologist, and activist, I combine EFT, ACT, Gottman, Somatic Abolitionism, and DBT modalities to support your freedom, safety, and boundless growth.
Hi, I'm Tony and my couples therapy practice is a space of hope, clarity, and limitless compassion. Maybe you’re struggling. Maybe you’re in pain or a difficult place in your relationship. Or maybe you’re passing through complicated times. It's safe if your marriage feels this hard, whether you're going through a breakdown or just a rough patch. In therapy, I can journey with you to a place of discovery, curiosity, and refreshing connection. I’ll help you uncover new ways to open, empathize, communicate, and find comfort with one another. But most importantly, we will grow a new culture of freedom and understanding for your future.

I also use elements of the Gottman Method and EFT in my couple's work.
The connection that you have with your therapist is so important in feeling safe and wanting to continue on the journey of therapy together. It's through this connection, when you feel understood, that you're able to heal. My approach is nurturing, non- judgmental, and collaborative. I want to support you in gaining the self-awareness to understand yourself, your goals, identifying obstacles hindering your progress, and feeling empowered to make necessary changes for a healthier and happier life.

I utilize one of the most effective forms of therapy, Emotionally Focused Therapy, in my work with couples, families, and individuals.
As humans, we are wired for connection, but couples often get stuck in a negative cycle of conflict that blocks that connection and leaves them desperate to find it again. Please, don't give up on your relationship; there is hope, and I am here to help you dissolve those blocks and create new ways of feeling heard, seen, and understood. I especially enjoy working in the Christian, African-American, and Latin communities.

Is anxiety, depression, or trauma holding you back from being your true self? Do you feel stuck in managing difficult life transitions? Now, every little thing becomes super overwhelming. Those negative experiences reopen old wounds and cause new ones. You tried burying your pain hoping it would go away. You feel lonely and tormented. You feel exhausted, stressed, and angry all the time. You wonder how much more you can take. You are unsure of who or where to turn for help. In the midst of this painful journey, you do not have to go through it alone.

Emotionally Focused Therapists

Who is emotionally focused therapy for?

Emotionally focused therapy (EFT) is for couples who are emotionally distressed, stuck in an unsatisfying relationship pattern or feeling deeply alienated. They may even believe the relationship is beyond repair. Very often, the partners display intense anger, fear, grief, loss of trust, or a sense of betrayal in the relationship. In addition, EFT is helpful to couples and individuals who have difficulty expressing emotions and those who have trouble regulating emotions.

Why do people need emotionally focused therapy?

People need emotionally focused therapy because the need for others is built into the brain, but the pressures of daily life can erode feelings of love, and couples often do not have the skills to find their way back to the comfort of each other. Instead, they may be stuck in repetitive patterns of anger, fear, grief, loss of trust, or a sense of betrayal. Emotionally focused therapy regards such strong negative feelings as expressions of protest over the loss of connection and turns them into pathways of reconnection.

What happens in emotionally focused therapy?

Over the course of eight to 20 weekly sessions, couples de-escalate their negative emotional reactivity to one another so that they can listen to each other and be responsive to each other’s needs. Then the deep emotional and physical bond is restored, giving partners a sense of comfort and security, which they can use to solve whatever problems come their way. The therapist plays an active role, helping partners understand how anger and withdrawal are actually misguided cries for connection.

What problems does emotionally focused therapy treat?

EFT is designed to help couples stuck in dysfunctional relationship patterns regain closeness and rebuild their relationship. Typically, such couples experience considerable distress, with partners feeling alienated and distrustful of one another, not certain their relationship can survive. EFT is also helpful to individuals experiencing attachment-related fears of loss; it helps them learn to use their fears as a way of eliciting the closeness they desire.
