Therapy is like nothing else in life. It offers a dedicated time for you to explore who you are, give attention to the parts of yourself that are hurting and the parts that maybe don't have enough life yet, and work toward wholeness.

We all feel lost from time to time, but there’s always light at the end of the tunnel. I’ve been through my own therapy as a young adult when I was stuck in a bout of anxiety and panic attacks due to childhood trauma. Throughout my years of working with traumatized individuals, I learned first-hand about how childhood trauma can have a strong impact on adulthood. I can help you address unresolved trauma, in order for you to find passion, connection, and purpose in your life.

I specialize in working with clients with complex trauma and dissociative disorders, particularly those with multiple marginalized identities (BIPOC, LGBTQ+, chronic pain/disability) involved in harmful systems (foster care, carceral system, military, and hospitalizations). My approach to the work is that our systems and our world are fundamentally inequitable, and therapy is a way to help us survive in the face of many sources of adversity. With therapy, we learn about ourselves and our patterns and develop compassion for our suffering and ways to care for ourselves in all areas of our lives.

People often hear about Complex PTSD and feel that they have finally the words to describe their emotional experience. Trauma comes in many forms and it remains in your body long after the traumatic events have occurred. I help clients learn to understand their past and learn to thrive in the present. I especially enjoy working with PTSD and C-PTSD, first responders, sexual assault survivors, Single Mothers by Choice (SMBC), women navigating infertility-related stress, and neurodivergent adults newly diagnosed with ADHD and/or Autism

Therapy is a collaboration. You are the authority on your own experience and your own goals, and I respect that fact more than an average therapist. I want to know what you want to work on, and help you specifically with that. It takes courage to set on a path of healing and growth; I honor this by offering space to move towards your chosen goals at your own pace. You are a unique person, and so I do my best to individualize treatment to your values and intentions over preconceived ideas of what "healthy" means.

Hi there, I'm Kane. I'm a queer and gender-fluid therapist. I work with a range of clients including individuals, couples, hinge relationships, and polycules. I typically work with folks seeking a better understanding of themselves and their surroundings. We may be a good fit if you are looking for a blend of self discovery and more directive skills based approaches. Often my clients say they wished they didn’t need so much validation from others in order to have confidence or they want to be more assertive without feeling guilty. They feel strangely alone even in their relationships. Despite being capable & smart and having some degree of insight about how they were raised, people I treat know there is more to the story. Why do they have so much self-doubt or a harsh inner voice or look to others to say they're "okay”? This is where I come in. I help people dig deep into the stories & experiences that shaped them and how those influences sometimes hijack their way of thinking & sense of self.

Would you like a place to feel supported throughout the week and actually look forward to therapy? If so, we could be a good fit! I believe that therapy should be a place where you can feel safe to unpack how you're truly feeling and feel like you have skills to help you move through difficult times. Seeking treatment for your eating disorder/body image issues is hard enough, so I strive to create a safe space to start the journey. My approach is LGBTQ+ affirming and rooted in Health at Every Size.

Many of us contend with worry, feelings of failure and stuckness, inadequacy, despair, perfectionism, parenting, grief, and difficulties navigating relational differences. In our work together, we'll identify these problems and determine what they are getting in the way of. Collaborative conversations will allow us to listen for your hopes and values and explore how these reveal new possibilities for making the life you want. Please email me to set up a consultation so I can hear more about your hopes for therapy and answer any questions about the process.

This world can be a lonely and overwhelming place. Therapy provides a space to process the chaos of life while deepening your relationships - with yourself, with others, with the unknowable. When we allow ourselves to be truly seen and accepted, healing can begin.

Self-Harming Therapists

How does therapy for self-harm work?

A person may turn to self-injury so that they can distract themselves from their stress, depression, anxiety, or upsetting circumstances. Therapy can address the cause of an individual’s suffering. A therapist can help a person understand why they may want to self-harm and help the person learn new methods of coping. A person may have poor emotion regulation, and treatment such as cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) is helpful for breaking this behaviour. In addition, treatment such as dialectical behavior therapy can help a person manage their tolerance of distress.

Which therapies are best for self-harm?

Specific approaches used by professionals include cognitive behavioral, dialectical behavior, psychodynamic, and mentalisation-based therapies, among others. Cognitive behavioral and dialectical behavior therapies are common approaches for people who have painful thoughts and past traumas. These therapies help an individual cope with distress, regulate emotions, and manage impulsive urges.

Does the tendency to self-harm mean the person is suicidal?

Having this urge does not mean the individual suffers from suicidal ideation. People who want to self-injure look to distract or alleviate themselves from the pain they are experiencing. People with suicidal tendencies want to end life altogether. However, this does not mean a person with the intent to self-harm will not attempt suicide.

How often and how long are therapy sessions for self-harm?

As with any type of therapy, sessions depend on the individual. Clients may see improvement within 20 sessions, at an average of 50 minutes per session, while others may opt for 20 to 30 sessions over, maybe, a six-month period. People, especially those with co-occurring conditions like depression and anxiety, may need to continue therapy for up to 12 to 18 months.
