I have advanced training in Emotionally Focused Therapy ( EFT), which means I have completed an intensified year-long training and supervision in my work with couples.
Hi! I'm glad you're here. Perhaps you are experiencing discomfort in one or many of your relationships, or are just feeling generally out of control or down. You don't have to navigate these difficult feelings alone, we can face them together. Whatever your needs may be, I am here to support you. Together, we can work to identify relationship or behavioral patterns that may have fallen into your blindspots and together face any negative feelings. Through this insight and self-discovery, we will explore your past safely together to make sense of your present and support you in building a fulfilling and meaningful future.

As a therapist, I call upon a variety of practices to nurture each individual’s or couple’s personal process. With a background in movement, music, art and drama, I approach therapy as a creative pursuit rooted in clinical analysis. I have a trauma-informed approach, allowing space for the many layers of stress that our culture can bring about in an individual or within a couple. I draw on traditional psychodynamic, Gestalt, Emotionally Focused Couples therapy, and relational methodologies, while incorporating eastern philosophies, symbolism, somatics, and creative or spiritual practices.

I use attachment-focused EMDR, Buddhist philosophy, EFT, and IFS to inform my relational approach.
On my 30th birthday, I walked home alone. I had a great night with friends, flirted with girls at the bar, but I had a feeling that there was something much richer out there for me. I didn’t know it at the time, but I needed a loving partnership that enabled everything else I wanted in life, and it was up to me to prioritize finding it. The journey continued, eventually finding me in therapy myself. With a nurturing but challenging therapist, I began to realize that I would often get trapped in a big feeling, feel overwhelmed, and move away from it. Growth started to come from listening and learning from internal discomfort.

As a licensed therapist trained in Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy ( EFT), I specialize in counseling couples like you how to enhance the support within your relationship.
Is your relationship stuck in conflict or feeling hopeless? You might find yourselves trapped in repeating patterns. You know communication should be improved somehow. Maybe you don’t spend enough time together. You could be avoiding each other because of past hurts you'd rather not bring up, or personal differences you've been struggling to address. You're likely not feeling as supported you could be. If any of this resonates with you, I'm a trained couples therapist here to help.

I am trained in psychodynamic therapy, EFT, and EMDR.
Hi, I'm Zoë. I'm a licensed psychotherapist with over 15 years of experience in mental health. I work with adults and couples who are seeking a deeper relationship with themselves and with each other. I find that with acceptance of your true self, the more confident you will feel in communicating openly, making hard decisions, setting boundaries and making desired changes in your life. This holds true in our relationships as well. When we learn to accept realities about ourselves, we can then learn how to share our inner world with others. I would love to help you find deeper connection with yourself and the world around you.

Emotional and physical trauma, when unresolved, can leave us feeling alone, misunderstood, disconnected and sometimes shamed. It can keep us from forming the relationships we seek and alienate us from the intimacy we might desire. In a non-judgmental way, I engage my clients to help them find meaning and growth through a combination of deep understanding and emotional presence. My approach is attachment-based and focuses on attunement and self-acceptance. When working with couples as well as individuals, I use Emotionally Focused Therapy ( EFT).

Some treatment modalities I use are attachment theory, EFT (Emotionally-Focused Therapy, PACT (Psychobiological Approach to Couple Therapy), and EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing).
I hold the sacredness of authenticity, humaning alongside other humans. I focus on working with women, particularly women of color, to show up to the brutal, sweaty, and liberating work of tending to your life while challenging oppressive systems that want humans to stay small. Together, we examine trauma and pain with self-compassion, address avoidance, build vocabulary around emotions to expand your knowing, and work together to enrich relational bonds. I would love to hold space for you! I am licensed and available to work with residents of California and Washington.

When it comes to relationships, we can find ourselves stuck on “rinse-and-repeat” (or occasionally, just “spin.”) However, through insight and a smattering of behavioral interventions, we can learn to separate that which is ours and that which we have been holding onto for someone else, allowing us to reimagine ourselves and our relationships. I work with adults, teens, couples, and families, and specialize in working with folks who struggle with anxiety and relational trauma.

Transitions can create disconnect and emotional distress. Becoming a parent can be especially challenging. We may feel overwhelmed, burned out, or just struggling to find joy. Our relationships may suffer, creating feelings of isolation and loneliness. Interrupted sleep and added stress make it hard to engage in daily life. We may carry guilt or shame as we struggle to fulfill the needs of those we love, leaving our own needs unmet. The transition to parenting young children may also mark a shift in identity, struggling to define who we are and "how to remain me." Being a parent does not have to be so hard — relief is in reach.

Your children are almost launched. One may be off to college. The other still lives upstairs. Your mother needs you to go to the doctor, and your partner's snoring has kept you up all night. You may have reached that glass ceiling at work on a path you never intended. You've put others' needs above your own and lost your sense of self again and again. You and your partner can't seem to connect as you navigate full speed ahead into the "sandwich generation" you've heard is on the horizon. You're tired of it all. You want to feel alive again and navigate your chosen path with your partner's mutual support and understanding.

Emotionally Focused Therapists
Who is emotionally focused therapy for?
Emotionally focused therapy (EFT) is for couples who are emotionally distressed, stuck in an unsatisfying relationship pattern or feeling deeply alienated. They may even believe the relationship is beyond repair. Very often, the partners display intense anger, fear, grief, loss of trust, or a sense of betrayal in the relationship. In addition, EFT is helpful to couples and individuals who have difficulty expressing emotions and those who have trouble regulating emotions.
Why do people need emotionally focused therapy?
People need emotionally focused therapy because the need for others is built into the brain, but the pressures of daily life can erode feelings of love, and couples often do not have the skills to find their way back to the comfort of each other. Instead, they may be stuck in repetitive patterns of anger, fear, grief, loss of trust, or a sense of betrayal. Emotionally focused therapy regards such strong negative feelings as expressions of protest over the loss of connection and turns them into pathways of reconnection.
What happens in emotionally focused therapy?
Over the course of eight to 20 weekly sessions, couples de-escalate their negative emotional reactivity to one another so that they can listen to each other and be responsive to each other’s needs. Then the deep emotional and physical bond is restored, giving partners a sense of comfort and security, which they can use to solve whatever problems come their way. The therapist plays an active role, helping partners understand how anger and withdrawal are actually misguided cries for connection.
What problems does emotionally focused therapy treat?
EFT is designed to help couples stuck in dysfunctional relationship patterns regain closeness and rebuild their relationship. Typically, such couples experience considerable distress, with partners feeling alienated and distrustful of one another, not certain their relationship can survive. EFT is also helpful to individuals experiencing attachment-related fears of loss; it helps them learn to use their fears as a way of eliciting the closeness they desire.
