Trauma can disconnect you from your true self. I work with women who have experienced trauma and looking to find their real authentic selves again. Despite feeling stuck, hopeless and ruled by your triggers, I believe everyone has the ability to and strength to heal themselves. They just need a little hope and a little help.

My ideal client is someone who wants to understand what is not working in their lives and allows me to help them to learn and to grow. I think it's a collaborative effort on my part as well as the client. I see each client as bringing a unique internal perspective that needs to be thought about carefully and with insight.

I work from a psychoanalytic perspective with children, adolescents, and adults struggling from a variety of issues, including difficulty with intimacy and relatedness, recognizing and expressing emotional needs, feelings of loneliness or emptiness, self-destructive or self sabotaging behaviors, or repeating painful life problems with little sense of control. Since children and adolescents have not yet fully developed the capacity to talk about their emotional experience, difficulties tend to show in their behaviors, such as opposition, defiance, poor grades, or turning to drugs. In my work with adults I offer individual or couples therapy in a safe and nonjudgemental atmosphere.

Welcome. I work with children, adolescents, and adults coping with relational, attachment, and anxiety disorders. In my practice, therapy often entails exploring the impact of early attachment experiences on our views of self and our ability to form close, meaningful relationships throughout life. In our work together, you will be treated with warmth, empathy, and openness. The most important part of our work is the development of a trusting relationship. This relationship creates a thoughtful, safe space to explore your strengths, challenges, and goals. My approach to clinical work is largely relational and psychodynamic.

I am a psychoanalytic therapist who works with repetitive relationship problems, anxiety, panic disorders, long-term depression and men's issues. These often show up as poor self-esteem, feelings of loneliness and disconnection, false-self, obsessions and addictions, and unexplained physical symptoms. Sometimes people feel that something isn't right, but they aren't sure what. When friends, family and self-help aren't enough, I take the time to get to know you and listen for what repeats itself in your thoughts and actions.

If you’re tired of the story you’re telling yourself, let’s find another one together. I love to help redefine old narratives that may have been holding you back, and I am grateful to help write a brand new story of you. Sometimes, we can tell ourselves scary stories about the future and replay the painful traumas of our past. Together, we can look at your stories and see their strengths and their challenges and how you can build a new narrative for your life. I like to help clients find their true North Star to guide them to a new meaning and purpose.

As a natural empath and deep thinker, I am highly attuned and skilled at detecting and drawing insights from unconscious material that lie beneath a person’s struggles and destructive patterns. I hold space for my clients to embrace all the different parts of their complex identity and unique life path. Ultimately, I find that deep questions are best understood in a safe and open environment, with a therapist who is deeply curious and engaged. Therefore, I work to provide a warm and nonjudgmental space that facilitates curiosity and honest self-reflection.

I value providing evidence based, cutting edge treatment while remaining grounded in the essential components of providing safe, compassionate, genuine care and being fully present.
"Normal is just a setting on the dryer!" I often work with profound unrecognized and misdiagnosed trauma, critical incidents & shame. The benefit about having various "tools" in my arsenal means we don't need to verbally go "into the muck" which can be re-traumatizing and contraindicated.

Self-Harming Therapists

How does therapy for self-harm work?

A person may turn to self-injury so that they can distract themselves from their stress, depression, anxiety, or upsetting circumstances. Therapy can address the cause of an individual’s suffering. A therapist can help a person understand why they may want to self-harm and help the person learn new methods of coping. A person may have poor emotion regulation, and treatment such as cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) is helpful for breaking this behaviour. In addition, treatment such as dialectical behavior therapy can help a person manage their tolerance of distress.

Which therapies are best for self-harm?

Specific approaches used by professionals include cognitive behavioral, dialectical behavior, psychodynamic, and mentalisation-based therapies, among others. Cognitive behavioral and dialectical behavior therapies are common approaches for people who have painful thoughts and past traumas. These therapies help an individual cope with distress, regulate emotions, and manage impulsive urges.

Does the tendency to self-harm mean the person is suicidal?

Having this urge does not mean the individual suffers from suicidal ideation. People who want to self-injure look to distract or alleviate themselves from the pain they are experiencing. People with suicidal tendencies want to end life altogether. However, this does not mean a person with the intent to self-harm will not attempt suicide.

How often and how long are therapy sessions for self-harm?

As with any type of therapy, sessions depend on the individual. Clients may see improvement within 20 sessions, at an average of 50 minutes per session, while others may opt for 20 to 30 sessions over, maybe, a six-month period. People, especially those with co-occurring conditions like depression and anxiety, may need to continue therapy for up to 12 to 18 months.
