Waitlist for new clients
I specialize in individual and couples therapy, utilizing The Gottman Method, EFT, Attachment-theory, Interpersonal Neurobiology, and Mindfulness practice.
I have been in practice for over 30 years, helping clients to develop a deeper understanding of themselves and their relationships. Life often challenges our ability to maintain equilibrium. Whether it's in work or love, choices are often linked to experiences or emotions that have not yet come to light. As we reflect on experiences, anxiety is lowered or becomes easier to bear. This leads to a greater ability to meet life goals--when we tolerate anxiety well enough to sort out true needs from a desire to escape a bad feeling, we tend to move toward those goals.

Using a combination of psychodynamic psychotherapy, interpersonal psychodynamics, and EFT, I will help you get to the source of your challenges and find a way forward.
Growing up in a narcissistically-oriented home, you had to learn how to read people well. Although reading others is a strength, it has also led to a lack of identity and sense of self. Establishing healthy boundaries was something you never learned how to do, which has led to dysfunctional relationships. You’ve faced harsh criticism from people who were meant to lift you up, so instead of feeling supported, you’ve gained anxiety, depression, and complex trauma. This compounding stress from difficult relationships has left you feeling exhausted. You wish you knew how to stop this cycle of emotional abuse.

To support my work with couples, I have advanced training in Emotionally Focused Therapy.
I believe the most effective therapy begins in a trusting and judgment-free zone — a space where you feel safe being honest with yourself about your values, needs, and desires. Together we will explore your struggles, fears, and feelings of being "stuck." I am here to help you discover alternative ways of existing that feel in alignment to your true Self, whether this looks like improving your relationships, increasing intimacy, developing better communication skills, or setting healthy boundaries. You are not alone in this process. Together, we can identify how to use your uniqueness and strengths to achieve your goals.

I've been helping individuals and couples transform their lives for over 25 years and am the author of two books, Living Like You Mean It and Loving Like You Mean It. My overall objective is to help you experience meaningful change and achieve your goals in the least amount of time needed. Unlike more traditional approaches that focus primarily on talking, I help you have new emotional experiences that enable you to truly resolve core issues, move forward unencumbered, and, ultimately, have the life and relationships you really want.

Here's what I want you to know: You were born ready and able to be happy, and have a satisfying life--that's natures way. And, yet, at any point in life there can be many 'causes & reasons' for life turning in a different direction; and there can be many kinds of 'symptoms & behaviors’ that emerge when things go sideways; and when this occurs, we all can use some support to get back on track. For right now, just know that reaching for support is itself a sign of strength, and is also built into our human nature.

Falling in love can cause our hearts to orchestrate a symphonic experience, many beautiful parts coming together to create a dance of a lifetime. After a few missteps, wrong turns, and bad timing, even the best relationships can spin out of control. No matter if you are having problems related to intimacy, communication, trauma from betrayal, infidelity, differences in sexual fulfillment, finances, parenting or any other impasse you may experience, attunement is available (you can gain the healing, knowledge the fulfillment you desire and deserve).

The therapeutic process is a collaborative journey with the potential for transformation, heightened self-awareness, and a sense of integrated wholeness. I believe the relationship between client and therapist is at the heart of the healing process, which is why finding a therapist who is the right fit is essential. In my practice, I integrate elements of Gestalt therapy, IFS, EMDR, and somatic approaches to explore patterns, uncover their origins, and address accompanying emotions. I engage my clients through warmth, open-mindedness, direct communication, and, when fitting, humor.

When you begin the therapeutic journey, you can feel very vulnerable. My clients make lasting changes and attain the confidence to take the risks to succeed, in an atmosphere of warmth and encouragement. I work with parents, children, teens, and adults addressing anxiety, ADHD, emotional dysregulation, self-esteem, and social issues. They learn to live authentic lives and learn to live in the moment. I have a lot of experiencing with divorced families and help them coparent and do what is in the best interest of their children.

Each of us has a story. Stories shape our behaviors, thoughts and emotions, and influence how we form relationships, feel about life and ourselves. Sometimes, we hide parts of our stories to feel safe and lessen hurt. Over time, these missing parts can take root and cause suffering, leaving us drained, anxious, angry, depressed or just empty. I believe therapy is an opportunity to discover and make use of the healing power of our stories. Unearthing and reclaiming lost parts dissolves them of their power over us, alleviates our suffering and allows us to live a happier, more authentic life.

Unlike psychiatry where medication is prescribed to prevent your feelings from being experienced, my practice is focused on understanding what our symptoms are telling us with the intent to implement personal change within ourselves and/or our environments. Professionally bringing our attention to psychological symptoms puts us in direct contact with conflicts we may not be aware of, which enables us to make conscious-informed choices.

Emotionally Focused Therapists

Who is emotionally focused therapy for?

Emotionally focused therapy (EFT) is for couples who are emotionally distressed, stuck in an unsatisfying relationship pattern or feeling deeply alienated. They may even believe the relationship is beyond repair. Very often, the partners display intense anger, fear, grief, loss of trust, or a sense of betrayal in the relationship. In addition, EFT is helpful to couples and individuals who have difficulty expressing emotions and those who have trouble regulating emotions.

Why do people need emotionally focused therapy?

People need emotionally focused therapy because the need for others is built into the brain, but the pressures of daily life can erode feelings of love, and couples often do not have the skills to find their way back to the comfort of each other. Instead, they may be stuck in repetitive patterns of anger, fear, grief, loss of trust, or a sense of betrayal. Emotionally focused therapy regards such strong negative feelings as expressions of protest over the loss of connection and turns them into pathways of reconnection.

What happens in emotionally focused therapy?

Over the course of eight to 20 weekly sessions, couples de-escalate their negative emotional reactivity to one another so that they can listen to each other and be responsive to each other’s needs. Then the deep emotional and physical bond is restored, giving partners a sense of comfort and security, which they can use to solve whatever problems come their way. The therapist plays an active role, helping partners understand how anger and withdrawal are actually misguided cries for connection.

What problems does emotionally focused therapy treat?

EFT is designed to help couples stuck in dysfunctional relationship patterns regain closeness and rebuild their relationship. Typically, such couples experience considerable distress, with partners feeling alienated and distrustful of one another, not certain their relationship can survive. EFT is also helpful to individuals experiencing attachment-related fears of loss; it helps them learn to use their fears as a way of eliciting the closeness they desire.
