Not accepting new clients
Depression, anxiety, and strained relationships are unfortunately common experiences for so many people. Learning ways to cope, changing habits, or developing new styles of communication can be difficult. Addressing these challenges is not something you need to do alone. Therapy is a helpful tool in getting to the root of the problem to facilitate lasting change.

I tailor my approach to each individual, but I often use: CBT, Trauma-Focused CBT, solution focused therapy, motivational interviewing, Gottman method, and for children: play and art therapy.
Events in our life and our relationships can leave us feeling sad, depressed, angry, hopeless, overwhelmed, anxious, or lonely. When we finally realize enough is enough, it’s time to make a change. But how do we do that? It’s easy to feel lost and stuck on how to bring about change. I help adults, children, teens, couples, and families get unstuck and find a way forward in their life and relationships. If you’re ready to make a change, let’s talk.

Drawing from therapeutic modalities such as Internal Family Systems (IFS), Attachment Theory, Gottman Method, and Coaching strategies , I offer a tailored and supportive approach that addresses the underlying causes of pain.
GASLIGHTING; NARCISSIST ABUSE; EMOTIONAL ABUSE; MANIPULATION; HI-CONFLICT RELATIONSHIP: Often belittled, demeaned, and raged upon. You walk on eggshells & constantly need to watch what you say for fear your partner might blow up. You often feel confused & now distrust yourself; have trouble making decisions & feel like you lost yourself or don't know the person you used to be. Gaslighting is a form of psychological/emotional abuse where the abuser manipulates situations repeatedly to trick the victim into doubting his/her own memory, perception & sanity. You're accused of doing something that you know you didn't do or say.

In couples work, I use evidence-based concepts from The Gottman Method and EFT to provide tools to improve relating in concrete ways.
AAMFT Approved Supervisor Candidate: Supervising LMFT and LPC Resident Counselors. (Fairfaxcounseling.org) Specializing in Couples Counseling and youth/young adults, my commitment is to provide a non-judgmental atmosphere where we face hard issues to grow and find more peace in your life. Leaving shame at the door, we dig into what is keeping you "stuck" and find practical tools to move forward. Frustrated? Unhappy? Anxious? In emotional pain? Want some validation, insight, and change? I believe that everyone is the expert of their own experience; you have lived your life longer than I have known you. With encouragement, I often use the metaphor of being a flashlight in a dark cave, shedding light on different things, however, you, as the client are in the driver's seat; I am in the passenger seat, as a co-driver. Together, we will explore your personal meanings and experiences while making larger connections to your goals. I invite you to our journey together in creating new meaning.

Gottman Method Therapists

How does the Gottman method work?

One of the core doctrines of the Gottman method is that negative emotions hurt relationships about five times more than positive emotions help them. Thus, couples require five times more positive interactions than negative interactions with each other. The therapist will guide clients on how to improve communication and understanding of each other to manage conflict and have their emotional needs met. The therapist will also advise couples on how to repair relations with each other when conflict arises, and therefore avoid lasting damage.

Is the Gottman method evidence-based?

Yes, this method is an evidence-based approach to couples therapy. The method is based on more than 40 years of research by Drs. John and Julie Gottman, the psychologists who developed the method. The Gottmans analyzed decades of data to draw conclusions about what types of interactions are likely to lead to specific results, and which interventions are most likely to lead to success. Studies have found that this approach leads to improvements in relationship satisfaction, intimacy, communication skills, and a lower rate of divorce.

How long does the Gottman method take?

The duration of treatment depends on the specific challenges clients face. Sessions are typically 60 to 90 minutes long, and an average course of treatment is around 10 sessions. In some cases, such as for couples dealing with a critical problem, the therapist will suggest an intensive course of treatment, with daily sessions over the first two to four days. Treatment is complete when the couple is satisfied and has met the goals they’ve set, and when the therapist believes they have the skills to continue on their own.

Is the Gottman method effective?

Through the Gottman method, couples can achieve changes that are real and sustainable. This treatment has been used for more than 40 years; the method is supported by empirical research, including randomized controlled trials that have demonstrated effectiveness in improving relationship outcomes for couples. Like any talk therapy, success or failure depends in large part on how committed the clients are to making positive changes and working toward results.
