Is conflict tearing your relationship apart? Every relationship has conflict, but no one really teaches us how to have healthy conflict or steps to follow to practice it. I can teach you this! Conflict is a skill, and you can get better at it. Not only that, but if you practice healthy conflict, you'll increase your intimacy and have a closer relationship. I know it sounds counterintuitive but I've seen it happen over and over. You don't have to be stuck in this pattern; I promise.

Being hurt is a part of life. None of us are free of pain. Sometimes, the troubles of life, the losses you have experienced, the pain and hurt other people have caused, your fears about the future, and your regrets about your past create a life of torment. By taking responsibility for your life, accepting, and allowing what happens to you rather than resisting the pain, you can move forward with your life. You are worthy to live your life with joy, love, clarity, and dignity. Let me be your friend and fellow traveler on your journey. You can find more information about me on my webpage: miriammunzarova.com

It may feel like parts of you are broken or you hurt so deeply and nothing seems to heal the wounds. But you know you want more for yourself, for your relationships, and you want to take that next step towards healing. You may find you are struggling with anxiety, depression, you feel “stuck”, your relationships are challenged, your body feels tense and stressed, or you can’t quite understand why things feel out of sorts. You want to heal, but you don't know where to begin. I want you to know you are not alone, you are not too broken to heal, and you are worthy of living in a body and environment that is calm and enjoyable.

Are you in a relationship where you do not feel heard by one another? Do you notice that you continually fight about the same things over and over? Do you feel more disconnected from your partner than ever? I work with couples at varying stages in their relationship to improve their connection, communication, repair after disagreements, and to ultimately breed more joy into their relationship. This may mean that your relationship needs assistance during a major life transition (living together, parenting, separation, healing from infidelity, family conflict, etc.).

The external world can be overwhelming. We are constantly inundated with relentless waves of more – more information, more stimulation, more choices. We may think we’re managing it all but inside we can feel flooded. We may experience feelings of anxiety or depression as we struggle to navigate an increasingly disorienting internal world. But there are alternatives. Pause for a moment. Imagine being able to slow down, breathe, and intentionally direct your attention. Imagine feeling confident in your internal compass to guide you in the external world.

This relationship has you twisted in knots. You’ve been contorting yourself for this other person for so long that you’re barely recognizable. You’ve tried ending things before, but somehow you always wind up back together again – stuck in the same unhealthy cycle. Constantly walking on eggshells, riddled with anxiety, second-guessing every move for fear that the slightest misstep will lead to another round of berating. You try so hard, bending over backwards to please this person, but nothing you do ever seems good enough. It’s all too much. You can’t sleep, you can’t eat. You feel so trapped and hopeless. It can’t go on like this.

Do you feel overwhelmed, anxious, stressed, or depressed? Do you struggle with accepting and appreciating yourself? Perhaps you are struggling with a trauma or in your relationships? Life can offer us sunny, bright warm days that feel unending. Life can also bring days where dark and ominous skies loom overhead, and we need a little support to help us weather the storm. I believe people grow and change when they can take a mindful, accepting inventory of the different facets of themselves, their relationships, and their lives. From this unique place, a person can heal their heart and make informed, impactful changes in their lives.

Life can be challenging. Especially in this time of social distancing. It is not unusual to experience fear, confusion, depression and anxiety. It takes courage to admit that you need help and once you are able to admit that, you have taken the very important first step. The important thing is to find the correct person to talk through these issues with and I would like to be that person for you.

My patients come to me because they are stuck - maybe you and your partner keep having the same argument over and over; you can’t seem to shake certain thoughts, feelings, or habits; or your heart and life have broken open in a way you can’t seem to make sense of alone. Many of the people I work with experienced trauma in their past. These experiences can create barriers to fulfillment in relationships and life more broadly - often unknowingly. By remaining curious about what lies beneath the surface, and exploring new ways of relating to self and others, we will work together to create, and claim, a space that is truly your own.

Online Therapists

Is online therapy as effective as in-person?

Numerous studies suggest that online therapy can be as effective as in-person therapy. However, further research is needed to determine if online therapy provides the same benefits across all client populations. Individuals with severe mental illnesses, such as schizophrenia or bipolar disorder, or those who may benefit from in-person check-ins, like those with eating disorders, may not experience the same level of benefit from online therapy. Nonetheless, the success of online therapy, much like in-person therapy, often hinges on the quality of the therapeutic relationship between the therapist and the client rather than the specific modality of therapy used.

What are the advantages and disadvantages of therapy conducted online?

One of the main advantages of online therapy is its convenience for both clients and therapists. It also allows clients who require specialized therapy to access a wider range of professionals than they could with only in-person sessions. Additionally, online therapy may be a more affordable option in some cases and often offers the same insurance benefits as in-person therapy. However, online therapy may not be suitable for everyone, especially those who value face-to-face interaction with a therapist. Therapists may find it more challenging to assess clients accurately in an online setting due to reduced nonverbal cues on camera. There is also the increased risk that disruptions caused by external factors, such as technology malfunctions, can hinder the therapy session. For these reasons, many therapists offer a "hybrid" therapeutic approach, alternating between seeing clients in-person and online.

Is online therapy suitable for children and adolescents?

Just like with adults, the accessibility and convenience of online therapy can greatly benefit children and adolescents. In fact, children and adolescents may be more accustomed to navigating online platforms than older adults, making online sessions feel more natural for them. Teens might also be interested in using additional online tools, such as therapist-recommended apps, as an adjunct to online therapy sessions. Apps for developing CBT skills, practicing mindfulness exercises, or tracking thoughts and moods can be helpful for teens receiving therapy. However, it's important to note that not all therapeutic modalities are well-suited to online therapy, especially those used with younger children. For example, play therapy, which helps younger children express their emotions, often requires in-person sessions to be fully effective.

Can I receive prescriptions and medication management with online therapy?

The ability for psychiatrists to prescribe medications through online therapy varies based on the medication and the states where the medical professional and client are located. While many prescribing regulations were relaxed during the COVID-19 pandemic, some states still enforce rules, especially concerning controlled substances, which may mandate an in-person visit before prescribing. Generally, however, medical professionals can prescribe non-controlled substances through online therapy sessions just as they do during in-person sessions.
