My work has focused on trauma, family relationships, domestic violence/intimate partner violence, depression, and anxiety.
Therapy can be highly transformative when combined with intention and intuition. I'm a Chicanx Licensed Clinical Social Worker in California, born and raised in Los Angeles. I work with BIPOC-identified individuals open to learning new ways of healing and growing. Each client brings unique lived experiences and I do my best to provide a safe and open space in order for the client and therapist to be vulnerable during sessions.

For Individuals with Trauma/PTSD: Would it be a great relief to lower your physical reactions to your trauma history? It can be done with a multi-prong approach including trauma therapy and neurofeedback techniques.
For couples: Would you like to recapture the feelings you had towards one another when you first committed your lives to one another? So many things can appear to kill all those wonderful feelings and the joy you once had, but these feelings can be restored and even built on. I specialize in emotionally focused couple therapy. It has an amazing positive impact even in the face of affairs, loss of sexual interest, lives too busy to connect, loss of intimacy, traumatic histories, and so many other issues. This wonderful method has helped hundreds of thousands of couples discover an even deeper connection.

I work with people struggling with past childhood trauma, crippling anxiety, panic attacks, negative self talk, and social anxiety.
Are you feeling more anxious than usual? Has it been harder to push through like you used to? Maybe you appear like you have it together on the outside, but on the inside, you feel defeated. Through a warm and collaborative process, I am here to help identify and understand the patterns that have kept you stuck. You may find that you only need short term therapy to help you get through a transition in your life or you may need more time to process and uncover what is behind your emotional struggle. My priority is guiding you to a life where you feel seen and valued.

Trauma can hurt long after the painful events are over. It creeps into our relationships and makes it hard to love and trust others. Often, even more painfully, it makes it hard to love and trust ourselves. Often we try to ignore it, avoid it, try to forget it, but the hurt and memories always seem to come back. Maybe you find it hard to trust others, unsure if they are safe. Maybe you notice you are a "people pleaser", worried about making others happy but not happy yourself. If people in your life have hurt you, I want you to know that you are not alone, and healing is possible.

Have you “tried everything” including talk therapy and it’s “helped a little.” Do you feel like you’re stuck in a pattern you can’t seem to change on your own? Is a transformation too much to ask for? It’s not! I’ve seen it happen many times! You need someone to help you map out a plan to a better life and not just give you breathing techniques! Are you willing to try brainspotting therapy? It evolved from EMDR and it’s often a game changer. I’m a certified Brainspotting trauma therapist that often combines cognitive behavioral therapy, internal family systems and solution focused therapy with brainspotting principles.

Welcome to my Profile! My name is Ruth Her and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. I'm happy you made the choice to find what I hope may be a safe space to express your thoughts and feelings. Not knowing what to expect from therapy can sometimes make us feel some sense of anxiety. This feeling is normal and understandable. Especially now, it is very important to take care of our mind and body. There is so much happening around us and to us. It is so important to take time to look after our mental health and well-being. During our first therapy session, it is my intent to set your heart at ease and introduce myself to you.

Trauma and PTSD Therapists

When should I seek treatment for trauma?

Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.

How long does trauma therapy take?

Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.

What happens if trauma is left untreated?

Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.

Can PTSD come back after treatment?

It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
