What is commonly referred to as "mental health" is not an absolute. During my 40 years of practice, I've come to think of psychotherapy/counseling as a combination of external focus (how we manage or cope in the world) and internal focus (what needs to be healed se we feel better about who we are). I would like to help you with either/both. My practice includes work with individuals as well as couples.

I work through an attachment-based and trauma-informed framework - specifically, through the clinical models of Internal Family Systems (IFS) and EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing).
I work with clients who struggle with: unresolved emotional injury, trauma, self-worth, relational connection, mood/emotional problems, addictions, compulsive behaviors, and spiritual issues. I also work with members of the clergy (pastors, priests, missionaries, ministry leaders) who struggle with deep personal issues but lack a safe, nurturing space in which they may experience support and healing. My clients all seek and deserve healing in their lives and relationships.

Welcome! I work with couples and polycules looking to deepen their understanding of one another, improve trust, communication and intimacy. As a neurodivergent therapist, I enjoy working with mixed-neurotype relationships (where one or more partners identifies as ADHD, autistic, PDA / demand avoidant, or OCD). I support my clients in better understanding the ways their neurotype, past trauma and attachment affect communication and the patterns and cycles within their relationship. I help create a safe space where both partners can show up as their full selves and heal together creating lasting change.

I strive to create a safe, supportive, non-judgmental environment where we can collaboratively explore, understand and clarify your feelings as well as find more adaptive ways to cope and problem-solve the issues in your life. I believe that you can’t really understand someone’s present world without understanding their past experiences and how that is negatively or positively impacting their life now. In therapy,

Our emotional health is so important. It affects how we navigate each day — from how we perform at work to how we interact with the people in our lives. Depression, anxiety, and PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder) can be debilitating and keep us from experiencing healthy and fulfilling relationships. Trauma, abuse and self-injurious behavior, both in the past and going on today, also have a huge affect on how we function. And issues in our relationships can stop us from moving forward – whether it’s our marriage, with our children or family members or our friends. As a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, I am trained to help

Hello and welcome! My name is Jessica Millanponce and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. I want to start by saying how honored I am that you took the time to learn a little bit about me and my clinical care approach. It is my belief and experience that complex-relationship trauma and attachment injuries show up in our lives and are the catalyst for symptoms that resemble anxiety, depression, dissociation, hyperactivity and various mood disorders. My approach to care is and has to be gentle, self-guided and compassionate as we explore the inner parts of Self that need attention, unburdening and healing.

Addiction is not a problem to be fixed, but rather a person. I have worked with many people with various addictions and realize that addressing one problem from one perspective is not enough. I specialize in getting to know a person first and then helping that person heal from past hurts, learn skills for problem-solving, improve communication, build strong relationships, practice ways to manage strong emotions, learn to slow down and change their harmful or intrusive thoughts, draw from their faith for strength, develop strong support systems, and with all this, hope of long-term recovery can become reality.

Goal setting is critical in the therapy process. I collaboratively create goals with my clients, because I am working with them to achieve these goals. If a client has several difficulties and feels overwhelmed by their goals, then I will help them to identify an overarching goal or a goal to target, that we can work on together.

Today’s world is challenged in many ways. And, challenges come from many directions. Family disruptions, parent-child conflicts, difficult co-workers, supervisors who don't know how to lead people, and managers who put their own interests or the financial needs of the organization first before their people. This kind of behavior can result in strained relationships, distracted attention, tense interactions, increased absenteeism, and much more. It can come at the hands of people low in 'emotional intelligence' like bullies, micro-managers, and disengaged leaders. Is this your life, family or work? It's time to do something.

Attachment-based Therapists

Is attachment-based therapy the same as attachment therapy?

Attachment-based therapy may be confused with what is called “attachment therapy” (sometimes called “holding therapy”), a discredited and dangerous approach to treating children with attachment disorders, autism, or other mental health concerns. Attachment therapy—not attachment-based therapy—may involve restraining a child, forcing eye contact, and other coercive or abusive techniques. None of these practices are used in attachment-based therapy and the two modalities are in no way related.

What should I expect from attachment-based therapy?

Attachment-based therapy is based on attachment theory, which posits that children’s early relationships with their caregivers strongly influence their ability to navigate the world later in life. Thus, adults who seek attachment-based therapy should expect to deeply explore their childhood, identifying the dynamics or experiences that disrupted their attachment and the steps necessary to overcome challenges that arose as a result. Parents and children should expect to explore the possible factors that disrupted the parent-child relationship and work toward restoring trust and connection.

How long does attachment-based therapy last?

Certain forms of attachment-based therapy, especially those designed for parents and children, last for a set number of sessions; for example, Attachment and Biobehavioral Catch-Up, a specific attachment-based approach for young children who have undergone early adversity, unfolds over 10 one-hour sessions. When attachment-based therapy is practiced on adults or combined with other modalities, it may not last a specific length of time; clients may wish to ask prospective therapists how long they expect treatment to take.

Does attachment-based therapy work?

Most of the research on attachment-based therapy focuses on children and adolescents. Some of this research shows a positive effect, especially for attachment-based family therapy (ABFT). Other studies, however, have found that attachment-based therapy is no more effective than other approaches to childhood depression, anxiety, or suicidality. Less is known about the therapy’s efficacy on adult populations.
