My specialties include anxiety, depression, OCD, substance use/abuse, domestic abuse/violence, and legal concerns, including probation and parole.
Do you ever find yourself overthinking situations or experiencing thoughts going so fast it's hard to keep up with them? What about experiencing extreme sadness with a lack of motivation to do anything, even get out of bed? Has there been a time when you felt like crying but you couldn't figure out why? I understand these thoughts and feelings, and together we can work on decreasing feelings of stress, sadness, hopelessness, and isolation, regardless of the situation.

I believe a successful therapeutic relationship is rooted in a deep academic understanding of human development, but is most effective when expressed as a pure, honest and simple communication between client and therapist. My approach is to actively engage, creating a supportive and collaborative environment that is equally empathic and challenging. By focusing on both past experiences and present circumstances, I seek to access the client's inner strengths in order to overcome difficult situations, make life changes and break unhealthy patterns.

You are taking the first steps in creating change in your life. The pursuit of health, happiness, and healing are aspects that we all strive for, and that can be accelerated with additional support and insight oriented therapy. In addition to traditional approaches, such as psychodynamic approaches and cognitive behavioral interventions, I utilize mindfulness techniques, Somatic Experiencing, and EMDR. I have experience in treating a variety of condition, such as depression, anxiety, and trauma. Therapy can assist with stress and change of life issues, such as divorce, new parents, health issues, bereavement, or work/peer conflict.

Expect something different with me. I'm creative, I'm straight forward, and I'm pretty sure I'll make you laugh. Who said therapy has to be scary or boring? I have worked in the psychiatric social work field for over 15 years in both England and the United States. I have worked with adults with a wide range of mental health difficulties. I have experience treating adults with anxiety, depression, trauma as well as other mood, psychotic, and substance abuse disorders. I utilize Cognitive Behavioral Therapy to educate individuals on their symptoms, the roots of those symptoms and how to challenge, cope and work through them.

My expertise is in providing affirming care for queer, neurodivergent, and BIPOC clients who are grappling with OCD/anxiety, trauma, and relational issues.
Do you feel tortured by intrusive thoughts? Is your life ruled by a never-ending series of 'what-if's', each more horrifying than the last? You've been hiding your struggle behind a veil of people-pleasing, perfectionism, and other self-sacrificing behaviors, but it's getting exhausting. You're tired of the rituals, the constant reassurance seeking, and the disconnect you feel from your body and the humans around you. Trying to talk yourself out of a thought spiral only seems to make things worse and you're not sure how to move forward. It doesn't have to be like this! Recovery is within reach.

Obsessive-Compulsive (OCD) Therapists

How long does OCD treatment take?

Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is often treated on a weekly or twice-weekly schedule, depending on symptom severity and the client’s preferences. Some clients may start to see a noticeable improvement in symptoms in as little as six weeks, but it’s also possible, especially in more severe cases, for treatment to take several months to a year before significant progress is made.

What happens if OCD is not treated?

Some people with OCD, especially those with mild symptoms, may find that they are able to adapt reasonably well to life with the condition, even if their symptoms never resolve completely. However, many people, particularly those whose symptoms are severe at the outset, find that their obsessions and compulsions grow more intrusive with time, making it harder to maintain relationships, hold down a job, or navigate the world successfully.

Are there medications for OCD?

Medication can be used to treat OCD. The class of drugs most often prescribed are selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, or SSRIs, which include fluvoxamine (under the brand name Luvox), fluoxetine (Prozac), and sertraline (Zoloft), among others. In cases of treatment-resistant OCD, other classes of medication, such as tricyclic antidepressants or atypical antipsychotics, may be prescribed. Medication is frequently used in conjunction with therapy.

Can OCD come back after treatment?

Yes. Major life transitions, periods of stress, or other factors can cause symptoms to return or, if they were never fully eradicated, to ramp back up in intensity. For some, these relapses are brief and do not require additional treatment; identifying specific triggers and practicing the skills learned in therapy can help speed their course. For others, returning to therapy for a brief period can help address the underlying stress and strengthen coping mechanisms.
