I have been an LMFT for over 30 years and an adopted mother for over 20 years. My practice is focused on supporting children, adults and families to heal from trauma and live happy, meaningful lives. The principles which guide my practice are: 1. The individuals and families who seek my help are doing the very best that they can to get by day to day, but need my support to build skills to be their best selves. 2. It is my responsibility to create a safe, supportive, and non-judgmental environment so that they can heal and thrive. 3. Everyone can live to be their best selves when provided with optimal support, guidance & resources.

Are you noticing that your past experiences, current high-stress environments, or new life transitions are impacting your mood, relationships with loved ones, and well-being? Are you feeling anxious, irritable, easily triggered, or overly stimulated? Are these symptoms impacting you as a partner, parent, child, friend, or employee? If so, you are not alone. The effects past traumas, high-stress environments (e.g., first responders, etc.), and life transitions (e.g., marriage, parenthood, college, moving, etc.) can have on us are immense and they often linger in our day and limit us to be the best version of ourselves.

Do you feel like you’re living life on auto pilot? Like the world is passing by, and you have no sense of time? Some days you have it together and others seem hard to manage. Wondering why? Distressful life experiences can many times be the root cause of mental health illness. Trauma can present itself in many ways; confusion, sadness, anxiety, feeling too much or too little. Just know that you have the natural ability to heal and change! Seeking out therapy is a powerful decision in and of itself, perhaps your first step towards redefining your sense of self. The opportunity to begin to work towards healing and self-love.

Our wounds are often the openings into the best and most beautiful parts of us. Many are emerging from unhealthy relationships with themselves or others and often seek complete rewiring of their relationship patterns. After a traumatic event, living with a mental illness, or working through dark times, a person often feels helpless, lost and detached from themselves. By focusing on high quality care and tailored treatment plans in an exclusive and caring environment, you will be supported to conquer challenges and gain mastery in your life and relationships.

Are your relationships strained? Do you feel like therapy is the next necessary step? Relationships can certainly be challenging. But, I believe we are innately wired for connection, and sometimes that wiring can get tangled along the way, resulting in resentment, anxiety, depression, and damaged relationships. Additionally, the challenges of maintaining a healthy work-life balance, experiencing feelings of inadequacy and limited emotional expression beyond anger and sadness, often lead to a disconnect from those we care about most. This becomes a source of frustration for us and our partners. We can work together to repair this.

Transitions are among the most rewarding aspects of life—whether it's starting a new job, moving to a different school, embracing a new role, entering a relationship, or embarking on a journey of personal growth. Yet, these periods of change can also be inherently challenging, often bringing up uncertainty, anxiety, and unresolved issues from the past. Quality support during these times is essential. I am committed to offering a safe, compassionate, and warm environment to explore your experiences and navigate the complexities that arise.

Have you been nervous or reluctant to go to therapy? Not sure if you "need it?" If you have a desire to connect more deeply with yourself or others, then therapy might be for you (note: I believe we can all benefit from talking with someone). If you want to overcome past trauma(s), are struggling with addictions, have difficulty regulating emotions, have codependency issues, or have been involved with the criminal justice system (both as law enforcement or as an incarcerated person), this is where you can begin your journey of understanding, forgiving, and connecting with yourself and others in a more meaningful way.

Do you frequently feel like you are triggered by your children's emotions? Whether it’s frustration at a toddler’s tantrum or feeling overwhelmed by a teenager’s angst. Many of my clients just want to not feel like their life is being controlled by someone else's hurricane of emotions. Here's the honest truth. No one talks about this part when you become a parent, which often can lead parents to feeling confused, reactive, guilty, and that they are not a good enough parent.

The upheaval of the last four years has changed us all - it’s been disorienting. You’ve realized the narrative you’ve been living by most of your life no longer fits as comfortably as it used to. Maybe you were one of the many who figured out that you were neurodivergent when external structures disappeared during lockdown. Maybe you started to embrace a changing sexuality, or gender identity. Maybe you started to see cracks in the systems and relationships you’d previous put faith in and it’s shaken up your sense of the world and your place within it. If any of this sounds familiar, you and I might be a really good fit.

Online Therapists

Is online therapy as effective as in-person?

Numerous studies suggest that online therapy can be as effective as in-person therapy. However, further research is needed to determine if online therapy provides the same benefits across all client populations. Individuals with severe mental illnesses, such as schizophrenia or bipolar disorder, or those who may benefit from in-person check-ins, like those with eating disorders, may not experience the same level of benefit from online therapy. Nonetheless, the success of online therapy, much like in-person therapy, often hinges on the quality of the therapeutic relationship between the therapist and the client rather than the specific modality of therapy used.

What are the advantages and disadvantages of therapy conducted online?

One of the main advantages of online therapy is its convenience for both clients and therapists. It also allows clients who require specialized therapy to access a wider range of professionals than they could with only in-person sessions. Additionally, online therapy may be a more affordable option in some cases and often offers the same insurance benefits as in-person therapy. However, online therapy may not be suitable for everyone, especially those who value face-to-face interaction with a therapist. Therapists may find it more challenging to assess clients accurately in an online setting due to reduced nonverbal cues on camera. There is also the increased risk that disruptions caused by external factors, such as technology malfunctions, can hinder the therapy session. For these reasons, many therapists offer a "hybrid" therapeutic approach, alternating between seeing clients in-person and online.

Is online therapy suitable for children and adolescents?

Just like with adults, the accessibility and convenience of online therapy can greatly benefit children and adolescents. In fact, children and adolescents may be more accustomed to navigating online platforms than older adults, making online sessions feel more natural for them. Teens might also be interested in using additional online tools, such as therapist-recommended apps, as an adjunct to online therapy sessions. Apps for developing CBT skills, practicing mindfulness exercises, or tracking thoughts and moods can be helpful for teens receiving therapy. However, it's important to note that not all therapeutic modalities are well-suited to online therapy, especially those used with younger children. For example, play therapy, which helps younger children express their emotions, often requires in-person sessions to be fully effective.

Can I receive prescriptions and medication management with online therapy?

The ability for psychiatrists to prescribe medications through online therapy varies based on the medication and the states where the medical professional and client are located. While many prescribing regulations were relaxed during the COVID-19 pandemic, some states still enforce rules, especially concerning controlled substances, which may mandate an in-person visit before prescribing. Generally, however, medical professionals can prescribe non-controlled substances through online therapy sessions just as they do during in-person sessions.
