We live in a world with a tremendous amount of people who feel alone, unheard, invalidated, tired, depressed, disconnected and anxious. Our wounds are often the openings into the best and most beautiful parts of us. Many are emerging from very unhealthy relationships with themselves or others and often seek complete rewiring of their relationship patterns. I help create a space where I not only help you feel heard and validated, but also work towards the goal of finding healthy and effective solutions. I look forward to working with you.

Have you been nervous or reluctant to go to therapy? Not sure if you "need it?" If you have a desire to connect more deeply with yourself or others, then therapy might be for you (note: I believe we can all benefit from talking with someone). If you want to overcome past trauma(s), are struggling with addictions, have difficulty regulating emotions, have codependency issues, or have been involved with the criminal justice system (both as law enforcement or as an incarcerated person), this is where you can begin your journey of understanding, forgiving, and connecting with yourself and others in a more meaningful way.

I struggled immensly with anxiety and depression for many years. In my teens and twenties I was in and out of emergency rooms because of panic attacks. In 1997 I started studying mindfulness meditation with Jon Kabat-Zinn and everything changed from that point forward. Once I learned how to have better control over my thoughts and emotions, anxiety and depression became much easier to deal with. I became a therapist and mindfulness teacher to help others gain the same skills.

Specializing in addiction, codependency, and women's issues. My approach to the therapeutic process is one that stresses creating a safe, trusting, respectful relationship with my clients. I recognize that different people respond to different interventions and I am comfortable with an eclectic approach to foster change. I am naturally someone who enjoys people and engaging them in examining what they value and want for their life. Life is a series of choices. Insight is vital but lasting change happens when we do something different that is effective in building our self and a new perspective on life's possibilities.â;

In my 15 years of practicing therapy across the spectrum of symptoms and intensity: whether I was in an inpatient hospital working with eating disorders, a residential center addressing addiction, or a private practice setting guiding a marriage to better communication, I have learned there are root causes that keep us all stuck in our respective issues. You might find yourself wondering, “Why do I keep doing what I am doing when I know what I know?” Together, we will find the root cause of the symptoms and bring you the relief you've been looking for.

Are there specific medications for alcohol use?
There are oral medications approved to treat alcohol use disorder—such as disulfiram, acamprosate, and naltrexone, which also comes in an injectable form. These medications do help people reduce their drinking as well as avoid the problem of relapse. Naltrexone helps reduce cravings, disulfiram can make a person feel sick when they drink, and acamprosate may help ease symptoms like poor sleep and anxious feelings.
How do alcohol recovery or rehabilitation programs work?
In inpatient programs, individuals live in a facility with other patients in recovery; in outpatient programs,individuals live at home. These facilities are staffed with healthcare professionals including physicians, nurses, psychologists, counselors, and psychotherapists. Staff can also include people who have recovered themselves, serving as mentors and guides. These programs may use abstinence, harm reduction, detoxification, psychotherapy, and other tools for recovery.
How do 12-step programs combined with psychotherapy work?
Members of 12-step programs help each other reach abstinence and work to maintain it. These programs promote complete change in the individual’s emotional, mental, physical, and even spiritual perspectives. Some programs require that new members attend 90 meetings in 90 days. Many people do attend these programs in conjunction with their work in psychotherapy; the combination of therapy along with 12-step can be extremely effective.
How does harm reduction combined with psychotherapy work?
According to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, harm reduction prevents death, injury, disease, overdose, and substance misuse. People who choose harm reduction for alcohol use reduce the amount of alcohol they intake. It is not abstinence-based like a 12-step program, but combining harm reduction with psychotherapy proves to be effective for many people.
