Hi! I’m Alyssa Jones, a Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist serving the Coachella Valley and surrounding areas. I returned to the Coachella Valley in 2017 to pursue my hearts mission of bringing hope and healing to my hometown. I am passionate about supporting individuals, adolescents and young adults as they navigate through life's challenges and rise above them by creating new meaning in life. I am a firm believer that despite our hardships, there is still strength in the struggle to continue to rise through what we go through.

Are the present circumstances getting too stressful? There are so many changes of which we are not in control- job insecurity, fear of disease/death, separation from family members, and kids at home - every day, ALL day! (I am a Registered Play Therapist along with being a Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist.) Life's difficulties may have seemed manageable a few months ago, but now are overwhelming.

Whether you're struggling with consequences stemming from past trauma, chronic mental illness, grief/loss, hopelessness, anger, resentment or profound life changes; healing is possible. Therapy is the process of building insight and awareness into behaviors and thoughts that ultimately perpetuate the hurt and pain. My goal is to assist in you finding the best way to break this pattern, change old and ineffective ways of coping and building a better understanding of why we do what we do. We often are trying to make right or whole, something that was so broken, destroyed or distorted from our past.

Hi there, I’m Rebecca. The main factor that predicts successful therapy treatment is not the theories or interventions (or fancy couch), but the therapeutic relationship between the therapist and client. You deserve to feel that your therapist truly cares, listens attentively, and supports you. My approach has been described as warm, genuine, and direct. I believe that therapy is not a one size fits all, and that we bring our own individual needs when it comes to our mental health.

Obsessive-Compulsive (OCD) Therapists

How long does OCD treatment take?

Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is often treated on a weekly or twice-weekly schedule, depending on symptom severity and the client’s preferences. Some clients may start to see a noticeable improvement in symptoms in as little as six weeks, but it’s also possible, especially in more severe cases, for treatment to take several months to a year before significant progress is made.

What happens if OCD is not treated?

Some people with OCD, especially those with mild symptoms, may find that they are able to adapt reasonably well to life with the condition, even if their symptoms never resolve completely. However, many people, particularly those whose symptoms are severe at the outset, find that their obsessions and compulsions grow more intrusive with time, making it harder to maintain relationships, hold down a job, or navigate the world successfully.

Are there medications for OCD?

Medication can be used to treat OCD. The class of drugs most often prescribed are selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, or SSRIs, which include fluvoxamine (under the brand name Luvox), fluoxetine (Prozac), and sertraline (Zoloft), among others. In cases of treatment-resistant OCD, other classes of medication, such as tricyclic antidepressants or atypical antipsychotics, may be prescribed. Medication is frequently used in conjunction with therapy.

Can OCD come back after treatment?

Yes. Major life transitions, periods of stress, or other factors can cause symptoms to return or, if they were never fully eradicated, to ramp back up in intensity. For some, these relapses are brief and do not require additional treatment; identifying specific triggers and practicing the skills learned in therapy can help speed their course. For others, returning to therapy for a brief period can help address the underlying stress and strengthen coping mechanisms.
