I've been working with a diverse population across various roles in the helping profession for approximately 30 years. I value authentic human relationships and have considerable levels of compassion and empathy gained from experience and personal trials. While I draw from many types of psychological theory, I particularly like Acceptance and Commitment Therapy ( ACT), Cognitive/Behavioral, and Transpersonal. I create a safe space by valuing clients unconditionally and by guiding them toward improved awareness, self-talk, and self-compassion.

My primary counseling approach is Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Acceptance & Commitment Therapy ( ACT) while incorporating mindfulness, relaxation and solution-focused techniques as appropriate.
Do you want to be heard, understood, and create positive changes in your life? People generally do, and these qualities are important when seeking out a therapist. Establishing rapport to ensure I am a good professional fit is central to my approach. The foundation of my approach is helping patients identify their strengths so they can utilize them in their daily lives. At the end of the day you're an expert in your own life and I collaborate with you to identify what's going on to help create change.

My specialties are in EMDR, IFS, Eastern Psychology, Mindfulness, and more commonly recognized modalities such as CBT, DBT, and ACT.
I believe in emphasizing one’s own unique spiritual journey as the primary source of knowing; that there is nothing needed to “fix,” but rather an opportunity to explore with newfound curiosity and connection. Collaborating with our natural environment and translating what is discussed during our time in into lived experiences is incredibly powerful and useful for sustained growth and learning.

I am trained and utilize Acceptance and Commitment therapy ( ACT) which is an evidenced based treatment that helps individuals create an integrated self and a life aligned with their deepest values.
My clients are often feeling stuck and annoyed about falling into the same patterns when they come in to see me. Together, we will look at the ways you've tried to address your issues, and how those attempts are usually counterproductive. In session, we will work on increasing your brain's flexibility to create sustainable change within your relationship with yourself and with others. I'm passionate about working with college students and young adults navigating life transitions, anxiety, and depression.

I have over 8 years experience in the mental health field, with a background in trauma awareness psychotherapy including Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Cognitive Processing Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy to support clients in understanding and regulating thoughts, emotions and behaviors.
Hi, my name is Kayla and my hope is to continue to support individuals in navigating the effects of daily stress and anxiety to more complex issues of depression and post traumatic stress disorder. Whether it's learning to understand our own mental health or just gain a better understanding of our own thoughts and feelings, I believe that each of us hold the ability to heal, and in doing so, find what helps us thrive. My approach to each session is to provide a safe space for clients to be at ease in the present and gain clarity while exploring, challenging and healing core wounds, values and behaviors.

Stress is an inevitable part of life and aspect of the human condition which, in its unhealthy and extreme forms, can manifest as clinical anxiety, depression, and other problems in living (e.g., substance misuse). Perhaps you have experienced the attendant extremes in thought, behavior, and emotion that are brought about by struggles in modern living but you, like many, have hesitated to ask for help or, after trying various forms of therapy, have not made the progress you expected and you’re questioning whether therapy is right for you. This is where I come into play.

Acceptance and Commitment (ACT) Therapists

How does acceptance and commitment therapy work?

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy encourages a person to listen to their self-talk. A person’s inner dialog can be indicative of how they treat themselves. ACT also encourages self-compassion; this can lead to a better understanding of negative thought patterns and emotional states. This understanding can then lead the individual to needed behavior change.

What are the goals of acceptance and commitment therapy?

The goal of acceptance and commitment is to expand a person’s psychological flexibility, a trait that encourages an individual to live in the present moment and to accept all their thoughts, feelings, and emotions, even ones that are difficult such as sadness and anxiety. In ACT, this acceptance is congruent with the individual’s values and beliefs.

Does acceptance and commitment therapy work for depression?

Acceptance and commitment therapy is effective for depression because it allows the individual to view their discomfort and suffering differently. Depressive feelings about relationship heartaches, for example, are a part of life. A despondent person learns to let go of their struggles and instead view their painful thoughts and feelings with compassion. This will lead the individual toward positive change.

How long are people typically in acceptance and commitment therapy?

A typical acceptance and commitment therapy session is 50 minutes long with one session per week. Treatment for common problems such as anxiety, depression, or relationship difficulties can last between eight weeks to four months. However, more severe cases may require more than one session a week and/or a longer time frame for treatment.
