You feel stuck but need more than just “talk” or a “safe space.” You’ve had great supportive talk therapy, but felt that you ultimately didn’t receive the tangible skills needed to address ANXIETY or OCD. I hope to provide clear insight and actionable steps to spark real change inside and outside the therapy room if intrusive worries or repetitive behaviors are overwhelming you - or if Anxiety is taking up time and energy from your life – or if sleepless nights are disrupting your days.

Do you lie awake in the early hours of the morning or perhaps in the late night hours of trying-to-go-to-sleep and find yourself asking uncomfortable and seemingly unanswerable questions? “Am I happy…do I feel fulfilled…why do I feel lonely…what happens in this next chapter?” Are you in a state of transition? Perhaps you’ve dealt with death of loved ones and it has started you down the path of searching for a greater context. Your acceptable coping habits of eating, drinking, shopping, working, sleeping, not-sleeping, exercising, etc. are not answering these questions and you find yourself back to lying awake in the early hours.

I get it. I specialize in helping Women with ADHD because I personally empathize with your experiences. - Having a swarm of bees in your brain. Showing up to events with wet hair because you’re always running late. Restful sleep?-Does that even exist? Feeling like a human pinball machine bouncing from task to task without getting anything done. Having the memory of a goldfish. Constantly juggling but someone keeps throwing you more balls to keep in the air, and you better not drop one. Having a tornado inside with thoughts and feelings swirling around uncontrollably. Putting on a mask to face the world. Overwhelmed by all the chaos.

Sleep or Insomnia Therapists

How effective is treatment for insomnia?

The most effective treatments for insomnia are behavioral techniques that reduce anxiety, including anxiety about falling asleep, and allow the body’s natural cycles to be recalibrated. The most common treatment is cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia (CBT-I), which researchers have found to be more useful than medication, with rates of success as high as 80 percent.

Are there specific medications for sleep problems?

There are many medications, both over-the-counter and prescription that treat sleep problems. Supplements such as melatonin are popular and may help, though there is little evidence that it is more effective than a placebo. Prescription medications such as zolpidem are sometimes prescribed.

Are there natural treatments for sleep problems?

There are many natural treatments for everyday sleep problems. Reducing blue-light emitting screens, setting a regular bedtime, regular exercise, reducing caffeine and nicotine consumption, and keeping the bedroom dark and cool at night are all lifestyle changes that can help those who struggle with sleep but may not reach the level of an insomnia diagnosis.

What’s the difference between having trouble falling asleep and insomnia?

Life events, stress, and anxiety can lead to sleepless nights for everyone from time to time. To be diagnosed with insomnia, a patient must experience trouble falling asleep, trouble remaining asleep, waking up too early, or non-restorative sleep at least three nights per week for at least one month. Sleep problems affect one-third to one-half of the population, while chronic insomnia affects about 10 to 15 percent of people.
