Making the decision to start therapy can come with apprehension. I believe your best judgement guided you to search for the right therapist. I have a direct and compassionate style of working with children, adolescents, college students, and adults. I assist clients in reducing anxiety and depression in order to feel confident, achieve a healthier sense of self, and live in accordance to their values. I believe honoring one's intuition is the key to healing- whether that be through play therapy, creative art interventions, or talk therapy. I enjoy helping others explore their identity and to accept various parts of themselves.

I am comprehensively trained in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy as well as Dialectical behavior therapy.
My name is Taiann Knetge, and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. My passion is working with Black identifying women and Black Indigenous People of Color in general. I do this with an anti-oppressive anti-racist framework. My style of therapy is very conversational and relies heavily on building a relationship with my clients. We are living in very difficult times, and there are unique challenges facing BIPOC folx (racism, fat phobia, oppression, sexism). I would like to collaborate with my clients, and help them build on their own vision of their life worth living. The goal is for my clients to feel empowered.

We will incorporate different therapies, including EMDR, CBT and DBT (when appropriate), to help resolve earlier traumas and overcome present-day fears.
Choosing change is hard. Even scary. Unless you are perfectly happy with life as it is right now, you deserve to feel better and live better. We will work together to take action and make change possible! Whether it’s a specific problem or general displeasure, we will explore root causes, process pain, and establish new patterns.

Specializing in depression, anxiety, life transitions, and emotional dysregulation, I blend DBT/CBT and somatic practices in a trauma-informed framework.
Asking for support can be daunting. Therapy is a transformative process that invites you to uncover your strengths and embrace your journey. As a daughter of immigrants, my journey to becoming a therapist is shaped by cultural expectations and the silent stigma surrounding mental health in my community. This experience fuels my passion for supporting individuals navigating cultural identity and mental wellness intersections. Fluent in Spanish, I am dedicated to offering a culturally sensitive space.

Dialectical Behavior (DBT) Therapists

Who is DBT for?

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is designed for people who experience extreme emotional suffering because they lack the skills of emotion regulation and distress tolerance. The basic affliction can underlie a wide range of conditions, from borderline and other personality disorders to PTSD and treatment-resistant anxiety and depression. The therapy is helpful to those whose emotional reactivity is so intense it is disruptive to everyday functioning and leads to frequent crises.

Why do people need DBT?

The ability to regulate emotions is a core psychological skill that enables people to function in life and pay attention to the world outside themselves; it is consistently associated with well-being. DBT is designed to help people learn how to manage and regulate their emotions. Originally developed to treat people with borderline personality disorder whose extreme emotional suffering led to self-harming behavior and suicide attempts, the therapy is now applied to other conditions involving emotion dysregulation, particularly when other treatments have failed.

What happens in DBT?

Individuals meet weekly with their therapist to discuss their experiences relating to moods, behavior, and skills. Using checklists they maintain, they review emotional experiences and positive practices they engage in. The diaries help individuals discern what led up to a specific problem encountered, this is followed by discussion of the consequences of their actions. In addition, individuals may meet in class-like small groups to learn skills such as mindfulness, emotion regulation and distress tolerance.

How long does DBT last?

Because it is intended to establish long-lasting behavioral change among those with persistent problems, DBT is designed to last six months to a year. DBT includes both weekly sessions of individual therapy and weekly skills-training sessions conducted in small groups. Studies of DBT have documented improvement within a year of treatment, particularly in controlling self-harmful behavior; nevertheless, individuals may require therapy for several years.
