I welcome adults as well as couples in my practice.
Do you suffer from depression, anxiety, relationship or job-related issues? Psychotherapy can be extremely helpful. For 25 years I've worked with people struggling with these problems as well as substance abuse, recovery, women's issues and aging. "Patricia Ross is one of the smartest, warmest, most thoughtful, present, and trustworthy therapists it's been my pleasure to teach. She is real. From her experiences in living (as a wife, mother, musician, and lifelong learner) she has gained a significant measure of wisdom. I have referred patients to her before and will do so again." David Wallin, PhD (Author of Attachment in Psychotherapy)

I provide compassionate and caring evidence based treatment using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). I treat problems including generalized anxiety disorder, depression, panic, PTSD and OCD, bipolar disorder, and schizophrenia. I work primarily with adults, older adults, adolescents (ages 16+) and their families. Cognitive therapy is active, directive, and structured- each session focuses on a specific set of problems. I am especially interested in helping young adults who are experiencing more complex and serious mental illnesses (such as bipolar disorder, psychotic disorders) and their families.

We all want to be happy, or at least free from emotional pain. If you're here, something in your life is causing emotional discomfort--and some part of you senses an invitation to explore your inner and relational worlds with understanding and compassion. I help adults and adolescents deal with obstacles to their preferred lives--unwanted symptoms, relationship challenges, difficulty adjusting to change and loss. My goal is to reinforce your strengths, while co-discovering with you new solutions to the issues blocking growth. I offer a creative and practical style, drawing on approaches specifically tailored to your needs.

Depth therapy for adults offers more than relief from symptoms. It provides an understanding of symptoms as symbols that potentially point the way to greater development and wholeness; allowing for the emergence of your true self. In therapy, we build a trusting, deeply connected relationship that holds and contains deep emotional experiences. Ultimately accessing these deep and disowned parts of psyche lays the groundwork for healing and wholeness, a process also known as individuation.

I am a clinical psychologist with over 30 years experience working with adults, adolescents and children.
I treat adults as well as adolescents and children, most frequently through individual therapy. I also work with couples. I work with people with a wide range of problems and especially enjoy working with people experiencing anxiety in relationships or at work . I also enjoy working with people who are unhappy and don't know why, and people who are repeating self-defeating patterns they feel unable to change. Meeting with a well-trained and experienced therapist can be a powerful and effective way of strengthening one's confidence and developing a personal sense of control over one's life.

For the past two years, I have practiced as a psychotherapist for children, adults, seniors and families presenting with a wide variety of concerns at Jewish Family and Children's Services in Marin.
I provide psychotherapy to people who would like to find healing, happiness and peace in the midst of life’s challenges. Critical elements of my approach are deep and persistent compassion, acceptance, collaboration and partnership. My goal is to help you develop strategies and coping skills, cultivate new attitudes and increase insight while all along holding space to honor your journey and inner strengths. This is done by exploring the functions behind emotions, thoughts, behaviors and beliefs, all of which are valid and important, but can be difficult to interpret in the chaos of everyday life.

About half of my practice is with adults and couples and the other half is with adolescents and children.
Therapy can be a source of tremendous relief and gratification. Unhappiness and anxiety that feel unbearable can lessen and disappear when you have someone who can help you understand the reasons for your suffering. A good therapist can also help you more easily get your mind off upsetting thoughts that preoccupy you. Or if you find yourself acting in self-defeating ways, studying it with a therapist can be of enormous help. Ideally, you will leave an initial consultation with a new way of thinking about the problem that brought you in.

I have experience working with children, teens, young and older adults.
Personal struggle can be an opportunity. I'm certain you have heard this before. The question is how to find the opportunity in your struggle. Finding answers requires asking the right questions and sometimes those are hard to come up with alone, especially when feeling overwhelmed and unsure of which way to turn. I am committed to creating a welcoming, safe and collaborative environment where we can explore and consider possible solutions. I am dedicated to helping you find your path forward by better understanding your relationship with yourself and with others.

I'm a licensed clinical psychologist and I enjoy treating teens, adults and older adults experiencing depression, anxiety, grief and loss, PTSD, relationship issues, perfectionism, and stress related to life transitions.
I believe everything has meaning, even pain. Oftentimes, the function of such suffering feels unclear or arbitrary. My approach to the work seeks to understand the motives and desires (both conscious and unconscious) that are maintaining painful patterns that feel hard to break. Through embarking on this journey together, it becomes easier to face uncomfortable truths that have stifled your growth in some way while gaining new tools for deeper fulfillment. I hope to provide an opportunity to increase insight while relating to yourself and others in a new way that allows for more authenticity, playfulness and connection in your life.

I am enthusiastic, I feel deeply, and I believe in the power of humor - these are core to who I am as a person and core to who I am as a therapist. Many people come to me experiencing anxiety, depression, and shame - I help people move beyond these and feel less alone. I work with adolescents/teens and young adults, and LGBTQ+ adults seeking to heal from the impacts of growing up within an anti-queer world.

I offer Psychotherapy for adults. Common issues include: depression, anxiety, life crises, post-traumatic stress; life transitions, including midlife, the elder years, and aging; emotional growth, self-esteem; grief, grieving, and loss; coping with illness; relationship tune-ups, including communication. I value your thinking, which we will include as we solve your problems. I also focus on your strengths. They often hold a part of the solution. In addition, we may choose to do EMDR therapy. EMDR is a kind of psychotherapy that addresses not only trauma but also difficult life experiences or problems-in-living.

I work with adults individually and in groups.
Despite huge advances in modern technologies to extend life expectancy and increase physical comfort we have made only modest progress in relieving human psychological suffering that manifests as mood disorders and anxiety. It appears that many of our attempts to "fix" ourselves frequently backfire. My approach is highly collaborative and uses the most up to date discoveries in the field of behavioral science to help you "have a mind without your mind having you". Together we can help you gain flexibility that reduces suffering and learn skills that increase values-based living.

I work with adults in long and short-term psychotherapy.
Life presents us with emotional challenges, which can deeply affect us. It might be the death of someone we dearly love; a loved one's life-threatening diagnosis; marital issues; a painful divorce; an emotionally-challenging late-in life “gray divorce.” You may be feeling sad, lonely, scared, betrayed, or not wanting to face another day. You could be the parent of a child having difficult feelings, or who is resisting seeing one of his/her parents. These times challenge you at your deepest core when you are the most vulnerable, and can make life feel too hard to bear.
