My approach is largely psychodynamic, but also very eclectic.
Jill Shinn, Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist Hi there, I'm Jill! I'm a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist whose focus is on helping clients move from where they are now, to a better place in their lives. Whether the main goal is reducing anxiety, increasing self-esteem, healing old wounds, or improving relationships, we will work together to upgrade your life! Near and dear to my heart is working with clients who are struggling with self worth and/or relationship issues. I find that many of us have a nagging sense that we are "not good enough", and this shows up in a variety of symptoms.

I work primarily from a Psychodynamic perspective but have extensive knowledge and experience with Cognitive Behavioral Therapy as well.
Intimate connections with others and self-growth are common pursuits for people. However, our own actions and reactions (conscious or not) can get in the way of these pursuits. Exploring who you are, learning what coping strategies are no longer serving you, and working toward change can be a difficult process to do alone. I work with a variety of people including, individuals, couples, children, and families. Some issues of focus are anxiety, depression, perfectionism, and relationship distress.

Hi, I'm Caroline Scippa, a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, and I'm passionate about supporting women through life transitions and relationship challenges. I support my clients, most of whom self-identify as women, in managing anxiety and perfectionism, reevaluating unwanted habits and ways of coping, building communication skills and boundaries to help relationships thrive, and making big life decisions around priorities and desires for the future. I believe therapy should feel like a deep and rich conversation. I am not the type of therapist who only sits and listens.

Hey there, my name is Irene Oseguera and I want to tell you a little bit about myself. I am a Latina and I grew up in a family that didn't have a lot of money. Life at home was really tough and not always happy. But you know what? I've taken my own experiences and used them to help and support others who have been through similar tough times.

Your life is impacted by many things. Your individual family history and your unique life experiences influence how you see yourself and interact with others. You may find yourself overwhelmed, confused, and unable to change behavior. Your previous ways of coping no longer work, yet you don't have the tools to make any changes. The good news is that things can change for the better. You have the power within you, with professional help and guidance, to make life- altering changes. I provide a lot of feedback and things to think about. I ask questions that elicit changes in perceptions and result in insight that moves you forward.

In my years of experience providing therapy in different setting I've learned that you should use the therapeutic modality that not only fits the symptoms but also the individual. I have found that listening to your client's and using a client centered approach is what makes the biggest impact.

Psychodynamic Therapists

Is psychodynamic therapy evidence-based?

Studies have found psychodynamic therapy to be effective in treating conditions like social anxiety, eating disorders, chronic pain, some personality disorders, and depression; indeed, some studies have found it to be just as effective as CBT or medication. What’s more, several studies have found that the benefits of psychodynamic therapy tend to endure—even grow—long after treatment has ended.

How long does psychodynamic therapy last?

Unlike CBT and other more structured forms of therapy, psychodynamic therapy tends to be open-ended and may not be limited to a set number of sessions. It is common for clients to be in therapy for a year or longer and to see their therapist one to three times a week, though the exact schedule and timeline may vary depending on a client’s challenges and progress. However, brief psychodynamic therapy is available, which tends to be more goal-oriented and typically unfolds over 16 to 30 sessions.

Does psychodynamic therapy work?

Research finds that psychodynamic therapy can help someone manage or reduce symptoms of diagnosable mental health conditions like depression or anxiety. The modality may also offer a range of benefits that are harder to measure but just as valuable—such as increased self-worth or healthier relationships. While no therapy type will work for everyone, research and anecdotal evidence suggest that psychodynamic therapy can be highly effective.

What are the limitations of psychodynamic therapy?

Some meta-analyses have concluded that there is little evidence to suggest that psychodynamic therapy can effectively treat certain mental health conditions such as PTSD, OCD, or psychosis, though it is sometimes used to do so. More broadly, the open-ended, free-association structure of psychodynamic therapy may be frustrating for clients who prefer a more structured, time-limited, or goal-oriented approach.
