Sometimes life can feel difficult to go at it alone, and a therapist can offer support and guidance to help guide you through the maze. Marybel’s techniques include guiding clients to look inside their unconscious mind by asking reflective questions that cause one to look inside. Clients work on identifying patterns and thoughts that are getting in the way of progress, in order to make conscious change. Marybel also works to help people though difficult feelings by teaching mindfulness, relaxation and heart-centered awareness. You can heal yourself when you do the work and look inside to see your gifts and release the past.

"Therapy should be Relationship-driven, not Theory-driven".. . .Irvin Yalom. A truer statement was never spoken. Therapy is all about the relationship first because without the therapeutic relationship there can be no effective or meaningful therapy. A strong bond is crucial to the success of counseling and psychotherapy.

Having extensive experience working with patients in a hospital setting as well as in EMS and law enforcement have afforded me the ability to gain experience in providing trauma therapy to a diverse clientele utilizing a multitude of modalities as each individual situation dictates.
Life happens and more often than not, it throws curve balls. Not much ever goes as planned and this can often lead to stress, anxiety, grief, and trauma which in turn cause both physical and mental distress. Therapy should be easily accessible and collaborative in order to help you negotiate all those challenges. Providing an environment in which you feel safe to explore both the historical aspects and present challenges without judgment is imperative.

I have worked with a broad range of issues, though I specialize more so in working with clients who are struggling with issues relating to anxiety/panic, depression, trauma, life transitions, identity/existential concerns, or the challenges present for those in the LGBT+ population.
Let’s be honest––this is quite possibly the dozenth or so therapist bio you’ve read as you search for the “right fit” for you, and you might not even be sure what the “right fit” is. Maybe you’ve got about a million questions running around in your head, and no words to put to half of them. You’re probably experiencing some emotions that are difficult, scary, or just plain complicated. Maybe you’re not quite sure what to do with them on your own.

Working together, I can help you discover resilience, focus, and inner peace! Anxiety, depression, and trauma aren’t enemies; they’re storms- harboring growth.
Are anxiety and worry squeezing you? Does sadness and despair shadow your every move, regardless of your efforts? Do you carry memories of abuse and trauma, leaving you broken, damaged, and disconnected from your true self? The weight of these emotions forms a relentless storm within, casting shadows over relationships whether at home, work, or school. The pressure to be perfect weighs heavily, eroding well-being and sowing doubt. Sleep, focus, and clarity remain elusive. Internally, you yearn for success and true happiness, yet the struggle persists, leaving you feeling like a mere facade, a fake, a deceiver, a fraud.

There are always solutions for problems that we encounter, even the problems that we have been stuck with for quite some time. Though, there is no quick fix or one-size approach either. Therapy is a collaborative healing process to improve functioning in several areas of our life.

Trauma and PTSD Therapists
When should I seek treatment for trauma?
Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.
How long does trauma therapy take?
Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.
What happens if trauma is left untreated?
Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.
Can PTSD come back after treatment?
It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
