We seek therapy for so many reasons: relationship challenges, physical pain, parenting, isolation, depression, anxiety, career. Sometimes it's just hard to live with uncertainty. I work with all kinds of addictions and intimacy challenges. I treat people of all ages who are going through life transitions: graduations, marriage, new baby, career changes, divorce, illness - while others are athletes and artists wanting greater achievements. Many are grieving or just needing someone to listen. Together, we can determine what kind of therapy will work for you.

I am an LGBTQ+ therapist with lived experience of chronic illness.
I have specific experience working with individuals with severe food allergies, asthma, autoimmune disorders, and chronic pain. As a therapist with personal experience living with food allergies and chronic disease, I love working with individuals who are navigating these complex challenges. I also enjoy working with tweens, teens, and adults who are struggling with anxiety, perfectionism, low self-esteem, life transitions, depression, fear of abandonment, and past traumas. I work through an intersectional lens, considering each client’s overlapping facets of identity better to understand their role in their experience.

If you are someone who has an aversion to dredging up slings and arrows, I can relate. My clinical experience specifically includes working with the families of individuals with a severe mental illness diagnosis, bereavement counseling (including situations of violent or traumatic loss), and infertility. I also work with individuals who are anticipating or experiencing stress related to high-conflict divorce.

I specialize in working with people with chronic illness, disability, cancer, auto-immune disorders, and chronic pain, as well as menopause/perimenopause, and infertility/reproductive health issues; among a myriad of other conditions.
One of the most important aspects in therapy is for patients to feel heard, respected, and understood. Given that each individual is unique, and no one issue is ever the same among different people, my approach is integrative and tailored to meet the needs of the person, not the "problem". I strive to create a compassionate, non-judgemental environment for patients to learn, grow, explore, challenge, and to live the life they want to be living. I specialize in working with adults - individual, couples, and family - with anxiety, depression, PTSD/trauma, relationship problems, substance abuse, ADD/ADHD, and LGBTQ issues.

As a husband and father, I understand that it’s hard living up to the hype of a working professional, teen, or couple residing in the ambitious LA Southbay. You appear successful & like you have it “all together” but deep down are struggling to feel confident in who you are or cope with challenging experiences that have occurred in your life. Prior to becoming an Executive Therapist & EMDR Trauma specialist, I spent years in top universities and high stress corporate environments. As a result, I understand the pressures of school, work, and family life and can provide insight, strategies, and support to help you succeed and thrive.

If you've been feeling more anxious than usual and sometimes totally numbed out, I want to meet you. Because you tend to experience your life and your emotions very deeply, you were often told you were “the sensitive one” growing up, and it wasn't used as a compliment. Let's rewrite that narrative together. I'm here to help you understand your mind-body connection so that you can use your sensitivity to your advantage.

A genuine relationship between people is one in which you are comfortable to be yourself and in which the other clearly sees your potential and supports its growth. Compassion, acceptance, comfort, respect and safety is what I strive to create in a relationship with a client. This encourages a deepening trust to develop while allowing the work towards true healing to begin. People often come to therapy searching for relief from depression, anxiety, grief and difficult relationships. I have extensive experience working with adults, couples and teens.

As a neurodivergent or queer individual in today's society, you feel pressured to conceal your true self, anxious about potential rejection if you express yourself authentically. You often mimic others to fit in, hide your true self, and strive for perfection to gain acceptance. Simply for being yourself, you're labeled as "weird," "strange," or "different," which deepens feelings of isolation. Whether you're exploring your neurodivergence, gender, or sexuality for the first time or grappling with understanding your needs, there is a path forward from surviving to thriving.

Chronic Pain Therapists

How does chronic pain therapy work?

Engaging with a psychotherapist to help treat chronic pain does not mean that one’s pain is all in their head. Therapy for chronic-pain patients has been shown to benefit both the mind and the body, targeting physical symptoms and increasing daily functioning. In other words, for many, addressing their emotional health through therapy affects their physical health. A therapist can help a client challenge unhelpful thoughts about pain and develop new ways to respond to it, such as distraction or calming breathing techniques. Studies have found that therapy can be as effective as surgery for certain cases of chronic pain and many doctors recommend trying psychotherapy in advance of considering invasive surgery.

What are the most effective treatment options for chronic pain?

Stress, anxiety, depression, catastrophizing, ruminating, lack of activity, and social withdrawal all make chronic pain worse. Addressing these issues, research shows, can help people gain control over their pain symptoms. Therapeutic approaches such as cognitive behavioral therapy, biofeedback, and mindfulness-based stress reduction, along with greater pain-management education, have been found to help people reduce fear and disability.

Are there new treatments for chronic pain?

Many cases of chronic pain, particularly those involving back pain, remain medically unexplained. But there is evidence that changes in the brain or nervous system are caused by previous physical ailments such as tissue damage; in such cases, the brain may continue to send out pain signals despite the physical cause having healed. To aid patients under these circumstances, a recently developed treatment known as pain reprocessing therapy (PRT) is designed to help the brain “unlearn” this response. A PRT practitioner helps individuals to reduce the “threat value” of their ongoing pain signals until they can reappraise them as less threatening and fear-inducing. They also help an individual to develop new emotional regulation skills.

How long does therapy for chronic pain take?

There is no set timeline for recovery from chronic pain, especially as there may be a range of physical and psychological causes for any individual’s discomfort, but most patients should expect to see a therapist for a number of weeks or months, typically spanning at least 12 sessions. Studies of pain reprocessing therapy found that many individuals’ experience of pain lessened in eight sessions over four weeks.
