I utilize evidence-based treatments such as attachment-focused EMDR, CBT, DBT, ACT, & mindfulness.
Psychotherapy can offer a process to better understand the relationship between our thoughts, feelings (emotions and physiology), and behaviors. I work with people from all walks of life and specialize in treating anxiety, depression, grief/loss, trauma, career/identity issues, and adjustment difficulties related to life transitions and illness. Some of my therapeutic goals include helping clients manage symptoms of distress with healthier coping, improving relationships (with self and others), and exploring the ways in which current problems may be linked to unresolved issues from the past.

Through empathetic understanding, a little creativity to keep it engaging, and evidence-based techniques such as CBT, DBT, and EMDR, I equip people with the knowledge and tools to navigate life's complexities.
When you’re constantly on edge, haunted by past traumas, or overwhelmed by anxious thoughts, your experience is often a lonely one, leaving you exhausted and longing for relief and understanding. Although you’re hurting and probably wondering why this is happening, I’m glad that it’s led you to consider therapy. My mission is to create a safe and nurturing space where you can confront what’s going on inside, and discover a new way of being. When you trust me with your story, together we'll unpack the layers of your experiences, gently untangling the knots of trauma and grief that have been holding you back.

You used to have fun, like real fun. I'm talking "living your best life" full of carefree adventure kind of fun. Nowadays, asking, "Should we get ice cream?" is about as wildly spontaneous as it gets. The years pass by, and responsibility stacks up. Life is good, but it feels like it could be better. You've become the ultimate multitasker, switching between mom duties and work demands, catering to everyone else's needs, and hoping your own desires will sneak into the mix. You want more. And less. I get it.

When you’re feeling stuck, you want to move. You need to. You may be feeling left with complicated emotions that keep you from connections to others, yourself & the world around you. Being stuck in painful patterns is a physiological experience, not a personality trait. We might feel both grief and relief in distancing ourselves from pain. We can honor that survival strategies are adaptive, while acknowledging that they take a toll & come at a cost. We'll work together in a safe way by using evidence based practices, such as EMDR & other therapies, to relieve the nervous system, integrate unresolved memories & support mind/body.

EMDR Therapists

Who is EMDR for?

EMDR was initially developed as a treatment for individuals with Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), for whom memories of a deeply distressing experience can be inadvertently triggered by random everyday events. The procedure has since been applied in the treatment of many other conditions. For example, it is used by some therapists to treat anxiety disorders including panic and phobias, depression, dissociative disorders, eating disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorders, and some personality disorders. It is suitable for adolescents and adults.

Why do people need EMDR?

People need EMDR as a way to manage distressing memories that in some way hamper the ability to function in the present. The procedure is believed to target the way memories are stored in the brain. Evidence indicates that past disturbing experiences cause ongoing distress because they were not adequately processed, and when such memories are triggered in the present, they are accompanied by all the emotions, thoughts, and physical sensations as the initial experience.

What problems does EMDR treat?

First and foremost, EMDR is intended as a treatment for PTSD, to defuse distressing memories that intrude on and impair everyday functioning. It is also often used to help those who are subject to panic attacks, phobias, and other forms of anxiety. In addition, EMDR has been used to treat individuals with depression, eating disorders, and personality disorders.

What happens in EMDR therapy?

First the therapist takes an individual’s history, and then the therapist and client decide which distressing experience(s) will be the target(s) of the exercise, delivered via a side-to-side visual stimulus requiring lateral eye movements. The client will be asked to activate thoughts, feelings, and any body sensations related to the troubling experience. The eye movements are said to reduce the emotional charge of the memory, so that the experience can then be safely discussed with the therapist and digested, minimizing its ability to trigger anxiety.
