Specializing in a holistic approach to mental health and wellness. How can we talk about what matters, if talking is too painful? Mindfulness-based movement and expression therapy can help first regulate and calm the nervous system before diving into the analytical work. This makes the process not only more comfortable for you but also more effective. I understand the importance of listening to your own experience first, you already know the answers, I’m just here to guide you to them.

Navigating therapy can often feel intimidating and confusing. Taking up space and speaking your truth is challenging, especially when problems and experiences that may be distressing or painful are involved. But this process isn’t one that has to be tackled alone nor are you meant to. My approach is empowering and encouraging, and I strive to provide a warm, safe, and judgment-free space that allows us to collaboratively uncover your inherent strengths and build the life you envision for yourself.

No matter what you are facing, the experience of being seen, heard, and understood are just as important as the skills you learn to navigate times of anxiety, depression, feeling lost, confused, needing to recover from trauma, or just plain overwhelmed. In working through these painful places, people experience me as being present with them in it; as caring, and compassionate, while jointly working to identify and address the individual or relational issues contributing to their current difficulty. It is a privilege to journey with you as you reclaim your authentic self, your power, and reestablished personal and relational health.

I think the most important aspect of therapy is someone who understands, who has been there, and who can relate. I treat mental health and addiction because I understand it personally and professionally. I feel like we all need space for support and the ability to connect with someone. My favorite saying is "progress, not perfection" this means we just get up and try daily. If you are ready to take some steps, reach out! I look forward to connecting.

Dialectical Behavior (DBT) Therapists

Who is DBT for?

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is designed for people who experience extreme emotional suffering because they lack the skills of emotion regulation and distress tolerance. The basic affliction can underlie a wide range of conditions, from borderline and other personality disorders to PTSD and treatment-resistant anxiety and depression. The therapy is helpful to those whose emotional reactivity is so intense it is disruptive to everyday functioning and leads to frequent crises.

Why do people need DBT?

The ability to regulate emotions is a core psychological skill that enables people to function in life and pay attention to the world outside themselves; it is consistently associated with well-being. DBT is designed to help people learn how to manage and regulate their emotions. Originally developed to treat people with borderline personality disorder whose extreme emotional suffering led to self-harming behavior and suicide attempts, the therapy is now applied to other conditions involving emotion dysregulation, particularly when other treatments have failed.

What happens in DBT?

Individuals meet weekly with their therapist to discuss their experiences relating to moods, behavior, and skills. Using checklists they maintain, they review emotional experiences and positive practices they engage in. The diaries help individuals discern what led up to a specific problem encountered, this is followed by discussion of the consequences of their actions. In addition, individuals may meet in class-like small groups to learn skills such as mindfulness, emotion regulation and distress tolerance.

How long does DBT last?

Because it is intended to establish long-lasting behavioral change among those with persistent problems, DBT is designed to last six months to a year. DBT includes both weekly sessions of individual therapy and weekly skills-training sessions conducted in small groups. Studies of DBT have documented improvement within a year of treatment, particularly in controlling self-harmful behavior; nevertheless, individuals may require therapy for several years.
