I work primarily with children, teens, and adults who have suffered traumatic events. I provide an outlet without judgement, helping clients work through unresolved feelings about past childhood trauma, family conflict, and broken relationships, which can cause significant distress, affecting other parts of their lives. I will help you break away from anything that is holding you back from being the person you truly desire to be. My style is eclectic, supporting individual needs, unlocking and developing each person's potential. With children and teens, I use Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy to assist clients in overcoming negative effects of the traumatic experience.

Oftentimes in life when we’re struggling, we can feel an overwhelming sense of disconnection: from ourselves, from others, or from life. The pain we experience in the form of mental health symptoms is often a signal of unresolved wounds that need our attention. My role is to help you listen to and understand that pain in a way that directs us to tangible targets for change. I also incorporate education on relevant psychological concepts and skills to help you build a personalized regulation toolkit for managing the hard, overwhelming times.

On the outside it seems like you have everything together, but inside you feel unhappy and stuck. Instead of thriving, you are overwhelmed and exhausted. Part of you feels like you just can't manage it all. You spend your days feeling sad, irritated, and afraid. You're giving it your all, but it feels like you're falling short.

There are things about relationships that all of us find challenging. Communication with your spouse, partner, or children for some. Trauma experienced by yourself or someone close to you. We could insert 100 other examples here, but no one should have to try to figure it out on their own. There is someone out there that can support you on your journey, and I hope that person is me.

Deciding to go into therapy can be scary and hard but choosing to know yourself better can be transforming and liberating. Together we will create a safe space that will provide the opportunity to explore your feelings, thoughts, hopes and dreams. We may look into your past and identify experiences that led you to hold beliefs and engage in behaviors that were necessary when they developed, but now impede your growth.

Attachment-based Therapists

Is attachment-based therapy the same as attachment therapy?

Attachment-based therapy may be confused with what is called “attachment therapy” (sometimes called “holding therapy”), a discredited and dangerous approach to treating children with attachment disorders, autism, or other mental health concerns. Attachment therapy—not attachment-based therapy—may involve restraining a child, forcing eye contact, and other coercive or abusive techniques. None of these practices are used in attachment-based therapy and the two modalities are in no way related.

What should I expect from attachment-based therapy?

Attachment-based therapy is based on attachment theory, which posits that children’s early relationships with their caregivers strongly influence their ability to navigate the world later in life. Thus, adults who seek attachment-based therapy should expect to deeply explore their childhood, identifying the dynamics or experiences that disrupted their attachment and the steps necessary to overcome challenges that arose as a result. Parents and children should expect to explore the possible factors that disrupted the parent-child relationship and work toward restoring trust and connection.

How long does attachment-based therapy last?

Certain forms of attachment-based therapy, especially those designed for parents and children, last for a set number of sessions; for example, Attachment and Biobehavioral Catch-Up, a specific attachment-based approach for young children who have undergone early adversity, unfolds over 10 one-hour sessions. When attachment-based therapy is practiced on adults or combined with other modalities, it may not last a specific length of time; clients may wish to ask prospective therapists how long they expect treatment to take.

Does attachment-based therapy work?

Most of the research on attachment-based therapy focuses on children and adolescents. Some of this research shows a positive effect, especially for attachment-based family therapy (ABFT). Other studies, however, have found that attachment-based therapy is no more effective than other approaches to childhood depression, anxiety, or suicidality. Less is known about the therapy’s efficacy on adult populations.
