Trauma, whether big or small, leaves complex feelings of fear, confusion, worry, and grief both emotionally & physically, but my training and experience tells me that we are all remarkably resilient and have an inherent capacity to bounce back. I have a deep passion for helping people who have gone through traumatic events or big life-transitions who want to feel normal again. Managing the challenges associated with a traumatic event often requires the help of an expert in this field to navigate through the impact in a safe place.

I specialize in ADHD/Autism and mood disorders such as depression and anxiety.
You are so overwhelmed that you are "frozen" and can't stop procrastinating. Whenever you think you'll remember something, you don't. No one understands how hard it is for you to try and deal with your depression and your difficulties with organization. If people only knew all the traumatic stuff you've been through. It's definitely hard to explain to others what is going inside and it would be great if somewhere out there, there is someone who's lived it AND has professional knowledge on all this. I know what it's like to try and find someone that understands you, can guide you, and isn't judging. If this is you, I can help!

Specializing in psychotherapy for individuals, couples, families, children, and groups experiencing: ADHD, Anger, Anxiety, Chronic Pain, Depression, Grief, Life Transitions, (divorce, illness, loss) Trauma/PTSD.
What We Do... Every person holds unique experiences, stories, and gifts. Due to trauma or other concerns, our experiences can turn into intolerable burdens. When this occurs, our thoughts can become negative, relaying disheartening messages to us. Overwhelmed, our minds and bodies become depressed, anxious, or hurt. Imagine, however, that our suffering carries meaningful messages. Through therapy that seeks to support and honor our life experiences, we can learn to express, befriend, and transform our uncomfortable symptoms. "In order to change what is, we need to give speech to what has been, to imagine what might be." Adrienne Rich

There are times in all of our lives when we find it difficult to find the answers we've been searching for, when our external world becomes so loud we can't hear that internal voice of wisdom. It can be during those times that a focused hour of introspection, conversation, and reflection can be helpful in finding the answers we've been unable to access by ourselves. My goal is to facilitate that search, whether the focus is relationships, life direction, grieving, or how to make life rewarding.

My previous work has been with children, adults and families struggling with depression, anxiety, complex trauma, substance use, mood disorders, and psychotic disorders.
Have you found yourself weighed down by limiting beliefs, shame or trauma? Do you feel pulled to strip away old patterns and travel closer to your true self? I believe that seeking therapy is seeking change. And change can feel scary, but it can also be a conduit to shake away our dysfunctional patterns and deepest fears. Maybe you feel stuck in self sabotage, negative relationship cycles, or not feeling quite “good enough”. Perhaps you are ready to break free. This is where new and beautiful transformation can occur. This is where you can build radical self love.

Usually, a person is compelled to seek-out a therapist because of desperation: Desperation to extricate her/himself from depression, anxiety and or behaviors that contribute to conflict, or loneliness. Sometimes a person wants to be more successful in relationships or at work, A couple seeks-out a therapist because their frequent bickering has led to frustration, isolation and loneliness, and they don't know how get out of it. You may feel that your partner no longer values you. You need to be heard, valued and supported-to regain the closeness and understanding you once had.

I work with many clients who are struggling with anxiety/depression and challenges with relationships.
Our mental fitness is just as important as our physical fitness. Investing in our total health includes learning how to manage challenges, emotions and relationships. I work with adults, teens and couples on issues such as stress, anxiety and depression. Allowing yourself to receive support during periods of stress or change can create opportunities for growth. Self-awareness and learning coping skills can help with navigating through current and future challenges. Whether you are new to therapy or returning, be confident that investing in mental health is a step toward living the life you imagined.

I treat anxiety (fear of leaving your home going certain places, panic feelings) .
Some problems can seem larger than they are. We need to get above them and see them from another perspective. That’s difficult to do because when we think about them, we always see it the same way. We may avoid thinking about it because that just makes us feel worse. Some say, why talk about it, that doesn’t help. However, you have not talked but thought about it. If you talk to someone who can see it from a different perspective, that helps shift thoughts in another more insightful direction and that’s the road to real change.

Thank you for exploring my webpage. I realize that doing so is a significant step and I hope that this information helps guide you in seeking the support you may need. I have been practicing in the field of clinical and neuropsychology for 20 years. Many individuals with whom I work are experiencing heightened stress, anxiety or depression in response to life circumstances, such as accidents/injuries, health issues, parenting challenges, and other provocative life situations. I offer a supportive environment to explore the ways in which such challenges may be motivating my clients to feel and behave as they do.

Anxiety Therapists

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?

Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?

The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?

Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?

Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
