I provide compassionate and caring evidence based treatment using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). I treat problems including generalized anxiety disorder, depression, panic, PTSD and OCD, bipolar disorder, and schizophrenia. I work primarily with adults, older adults, adolescents (ages 16+) and their families. Cognitive therapy is active, directive, and structured- each session focuses on a specific set of problems. I am especially interested in helping young adults who are experiencing more complex and serious mental illnesses (such as bipolar disorder, psychotic disorders) and their families.

My specialties include: trauma, depression, anxiety and high crisis (including self harm & suicidal ideation).
Life is complex, and while emotions add vibrancy to our day to day experiences they can also be difficult to navigate effectively. Therapy allows the opportunity to enrich our relationship to our self, others and build a life that truly feels worth living. Finding a place to feel safe, heard and supported is essential in therapy, and I strive to provide that for my clients. I bring warmth and curiosity into my work and I will challenge you at times with acceptance and openness.

Specializing in children, teens & individuals My specialties are exploring relationships, childhood trauma, depression, anxiety, OCD, ADHD, ASD, suicidal ideation, divorce and more… I treat the whole person by providing a space to explore, process & express ones emotional experiences, gain insights, learn new/healthier coping strategies and offer support.
I incorporate many modalities but my base is in psychodynamic/relational therapy. This is a therapeutic approach that focuses on the interpersonal relationships and dynamics of an individual (I also explore the family system). This type of therapy emphasizes the importance of relationships in shaping an individual's well-being and mental health. Relational therapy aims to help clients explore and understand how their past and current relationships impact their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. By examining patterns of interaction, communication styles, and attachment styles, clients can gain insight into their relational struggles.

I offer safe, compassionate and supportive counseling in an atmosphere that deepens understanding, promotes healing, and releases potential. Suicidal Ideation Therapists

How does therapy for suicidal ideation work?

Stress, depression, anxiety, or upsetting circumstances can give rise to suicidal thinking. Therapy can address the events at the core of an individual’s suffering. Understanding why a person may be suicidal can help the therapist and the patient discover alternative methods of coping. A person with suicidal ideation may be mired in catastrophic thinking, and treatment like cognitive behavioral therapy is a good choice for breaking such patterns. In addition, treatment such as acceptance and commitment therapy can help a person manage their distress through better emotion regulation.

Which therapies are best for suicidal ideation?

Specific approaches used by professionals include cognitive behavioral, dialectical behavior, psychodynamic, acceptance and commitment therapies, among others. Cognitive behavioral and dialectical behavior therapies are two widely used therapies that can help individuals with painful thoughts and past traumas. These therapies help an individual tolerate distress, regulate emotions, and not act on dangerous urges.

Are there specific medications to be combined with therapy?

The use of medication for suicidal thoughts must be aligned with the underlying cause; conditions such as depression, anxiety, and psychosis may be at the root of suicidal ideation. A psychiatrist may prescribe medications for symptoms, which may include antipsychotics such as aripiprazole or antidepressants such as selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors.

How often and how long are therapy sessions for suicidal ideation?

As with any type of therapy, sessions depend on the individual. Patients may see improvement within 15 to 20 sessions, at an average of 50 minutes per session, while others may opt for 20 to 30 sessions over, perhaps, a six-month period. Still other patients, especially those with co-occurring conditions like major depression and anxiety, may need to continue sessions for up to 12 to 18 months. In some cases, residential treatment may be recommended for an individual who is judged to be at high risk of self-harm.
