These are challenging, even scary, times for many. People can feel at a loss about how and where to find support. Many people experience an increase in anxiety, depression and PTSD symptoms due to personal and global challenges. If you are struggling, please know there are resources that can help even if you are not able to go out into your community or to a therapist's office. I am offering phone and video chat sessions via Zoom. A recent episode on NPR.org titled, "How to Get Therapy When You Can't Leave the House" might be of interest and helpful. You can also go to www.NPR.org/Life Kit

My intention is to gently guide you towards your own innate wisdom and fully support you as your transformation unfolds. I prefer to take a direct, experiential approach, meeting each client where they are at and honoring their individual needs. I specialize in body-based (somatic) inquiry to address a variety of issues, with a specific interest in treating trauma, relationship issues, and addiction. My therapeutic approach is uniquely inspired from my own personal experience with healing, drawing from both ancient Eastern philosophy and modern research-based theories of attachment and developmental trauma.

I've been working with trauma, stress and anxiety for over 20 years.
Are you feeling it right now? That stress and anxiety that just doesn't seem to go away? Do you find yourself still feeling worried and concerned about what happens next in the world? In your life? In your job? And aren't you getting tired of it all? Because even if you've tried therapy in the past, you realize that you can only get so far on your own. Deep down, you sense that finding someone who really gets you would be a relief, that asking for help is more a sign of strength than weakness, and that it really is possible to find the right person to help you feel better.

I work with clients with anxiety, trauma, codependence, and relationship issues.
Tired of tying yourself into knots just to get others to like you? Do you ever feel trapped in a relentless emotional storm of self-doubt, and anxiety, where every disagreement threatens your relationship and overwhelms you? The constant fear of abandonment, the need for constant reassurance – these burdens weigh heavily on your heart. It's like walking an emotional tightrope, longing for love and connection. These patterns, etched into our souls from an early age can lead to unending emotional turmoil and strained relationships. But I understand your deep yearning for love and connection.

Through integrative approaches grounded in cross-cultural and transpersonal psychology, consciousness studies, somatic therapy, earth-based spirituality and mindfulness, I offer compassionate support as you uncover your truth and rewrite your own story of trauma and self-denial.
You often ask yourself, "What's wrong with me? Why can't I function like anyone else?" You've internalized failure, powerlessness and shame, feeling trapped and stuck with no way out. But where did it all begin? I doubt "something is truly wrong with you." In fact, I believe you're just noticing that things have not been sustainable and you long for a change and an opportunity at life— that's a sign of your sanity!

In addition to trauma work, I also love working with individuals who simply have a passion for self-discovery and curiosity about their inner worlds.
I work with individual adult and adolescent clients to heal symptoms such as depression, anxiety, addictions, body image issues, somatic pain or illness, suicidal ideation, parent- child related difficulties, and attachment-based wounding. Through the lens of Internal Family Systems, a non-pathologizing approach to healing trauma, I help clients to align with their internal resource for healing, get to know the true meaning of their symptoms, and unburden the pain they carry. Clients report feeling greater connectedness, expanded perspective on their lives and compassion for themselves and others around them following treatment.

I want to be your sparkle homie (a.k.a. therapist). What does it mean to be a sparkle homie? To me, a sparkle homie is a person who “gets you” where you are at. As a therapist (and sparkle homie), I seek to affirm, understand, and truly see folx. I utilize holistic, trauma-informed, and culturally sensitive therapies to be a partner in folxs’ journeys toward wholeness.

My approach to therapy is humanistic, client-centered, trauma-informed and culturally responsive.
Looking for a therapist can be daunting, especially if you are seeking support for the first time. You may feel pressure to know “what kind” of therapy will be best for you or feel anxiety about what actually happens inside a therapy session. I give the same advice to every friend and client who asks: choose your therapist based largely on the connection you feel when you meet them. Do you feel listened to? Do they speak to you in a way that helps you to understand yourself better?

I have been active in mental health care for over 40 years, currently specializing in PTSD and other trauma issues. I developed a treatment protocol, called Personalized Embodied Rhythm Coupling (PERC), which is designed to meet your individual needs. “Embodied” means that treatment will help you feel “at home” and “safe” in your body, being in your body in the moment to feel all its emotional, sensory, and physical sensations. You will be connected to, and accept, all parts of your body. You will be able to self-soothe when feeling anxious or fearful.

Trauma and PTSD Therapists

When should I seek treatment for trauma?

Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.

How long does trauma therapy take?

Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.

What happens if trauma is left untreated?

Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.

Can PTSD come back after treatment?

It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
