I'm a trauma-informed and culturally sensitive therapist ready to help you step into a life that is authentic and fulfilling.
In a world that often pulls us in every direction but inward, it’s easy to lose sight of who we really are. We find ourselves making choices based on others’ expectations, navigating life’s challenges without a clear sense of self, and feeling disconnected from the person we truly want to be. But what if, instead of self-abandoning, we could build a life that’s in perfect alignment with our deepest values and desires? What if we could rewrite the narrative and be be our most authentic self? Building a strong foundation of self-worth and breaking free from patterns that no longer serve us does not have to be a distant dream.

I work with individuals struggling with sadness, anxiety, self-doubt, self-worth, shame, boundary-setting, self-acceptance, and feeling not good enough. I utilize a systematic approach to help clients build daily coping skills and understand the underlying reasons for their struggles. With greater insight and awareness, clients are able to find their truest voice and build a life that echoes their best self. I also work with couples looking to cultivate healthy communication skills, a richer relational experience, a revived vibrancy. I commonly work with life transitions, parenting questions, and identity conflicts.

Seeking for emotional support can be intimidating. It may especially be difficult if you are coming from a culture where addressing mental illness is still stigmatized and can be perceived as “bringing shame to the family”. As a Filipino American, I want to help transform the view of psychotherapy in my community (as well as in other communities). I want to be able to assure individuals that it is alright to reach out to a professional to share what they are going through. To encourage the utilization of such resources in able to feel more empowered.

You're tired. You want to let go of the past, the perfectionism, the people-pleasing. You want freedom from toxic relationships, from energy & expectations that no longer serve you. You want to enjoy your life in the here and now but struggle under the weight of anxiety & familial pressure. If this resonates it's likely you experienced dysfunctional or even abusive family dynamics growing up and are still in the process of healing. You deserve to live a life free from the burden of trauma: to heal, build healthy relationships, break generational patterns, improve self-esteem, establish clear boundaries, & love the life you've built.

All of a sudden you remember that you have to do this. That thing that is so important to get to, that you have yet to do. The thing that you don’t really want to do. If only you could put it off your head. So now you’re keeping yourself busy to avoid doing it. But the more you avoid doing it the worst you feel. Why can’t you just make yourself do it! And just like that you’re on edge again. The uneasiness will follow all day long now. Then the negative thoughts come. “Everyone will know” “I cannot fail” “What is wrong with me”. The more you think about it, the worst it gets, the worst you feel. You used to handle it on your own.

I currently work with adults and specialize in providing treatment for mood disorders, anxiety disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorders, psychosis, grief and loss, PTSD, and couples/family counseling. Therapy is never a "one size fits all," so I try to partner with my client to help identify desired areas of growth.

As a Bilingual Latina provider, I am mindful of how our culture and upbringing can impact our sense of self and how we handle challenges. Do you feel stuck? Do you sometimes "know" what to do but don't follow or feel like you can't? I am mindful of culture and the physical, social and other factors impact our mental health. Allow me to help you get "unstuck" through EMDR and utilize an individually tailored approach that will give you the best outcomes. I support couples, individuals and families. Take the time to grow for yourself and your loved ones. I see my work as a calling and my spiritual gift to be of service.

“We all struggle with lives challenges and know where we would like to be, we sometimes just need a road map and a little assistance to get there. My goal is to help people imagine the future they want to create and then develop a series of realistic steps to help them get there. I focus on finding acceptance to problems rather than focusing on the problems themselves in order to move forward to solutions. I can help you identify the skills you need to make changes in your life and reach your goals. I strive to treat a variety of mental health and personality disorders, improve relationship issues, and empower victims of crime.”

We all know humans are not born with manuals, instead, we have to learn as we grow! Living should be easy, but it is inevitable that we will encounter instances in our lives when we feel stuck, confused, angry and sad. It is during this time we often seek professional help to find change, direction, awareness and support. Together, we can navigate through the current struggles, as well as, the good days to find coping skills and solutions that are useful to daily living.

Culturally Sensitive Therapists

How does culturally sensitive therapy work?

A culturally sensitive therapist will tailor their approach to therapy based on the individual client’s background. This may include changing their style of interaction (asking open-ended questions vs. being the “expert” voice), their affect (seeming warm or “neutral”), how much personal information they disclose about themselves, and more. It’s also important for a culturally sensitive therapist to acknowledge larger societal forces that may impact their client due to the client’s background.

How effective is culturally sensitive therapy?

Some professionals have expressed concern about highlighting cultural differences in therapy, suggesting that it might promote stereotypes and harm the therapeutic bond; however, many experts agree that cultural sensitivity tends to strengthen the connection between therapist and client and help clients feel heard and understood. A culturally sensitive approach to therapy can be especially helpful for those not in the cultural majority, especially when combined with proven therapies like Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT).

What are the limitations of a culturally sensitive approach to therapy?

While being culturally sensitive is generally a valuable skill to have, a therapist cannot treat every client from a similar background the same way. Each client is an individual with their own values, personal preferences, and life experiences that will need to be explored during therapy. In addition, it’s rare for a therapist and client to have identical backgrounds, so there may be some cross-cultural differences to navigate during therapy, but a culturally sensitive therapist can do so with empathy and respect.

Can culturally sensitive therapy be done online?

Yes, online therapy using a culturally sensitive approach can be beneficial. Therapy can sometimes be difficult to access for clients from diverse backgrounds and socioeconomic standing. The array of mental health support available through the internet makes it possible for clients to find a good therapist match regardless of where they live.
