In my practice I incorporate evidence-based practices including CBT, DBT, SFBT and MI.
I'd like to guide and empower the process of your change! We all have negative thoughts at times that can disrupt our lives and interfere with our ability to move forward. Negative thinking can take on many forms that can cause or worsen anxiety, depression, and past trauma and can even have an impact on our physical health. Negative thinking doesn't occur without consequences because it can affect every part of your life including how you feel, your relationships, and decision-making. Fortunately, there are steps and techniques you can use to counteract negative thinking and I would like to guide you in this process.

I use evidence-based treatments such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Narrative Therapy, and Solution-Focused Therapy.
Has life become increasingly overwhelming lately? Have you noticed that the stressors in your life are affecting your mood, relationships, or work? Do you wish you could hit pause just to take a moment to reorient yourself? As someone who has been on both ends of therapy, I understand how difficult it can be to reach out and ask for help. In a session with me, you can expect to be deeply heard and listened to in an empathetic and non-judgmental space. I am here to help you explore your thoughts and feelings, and to support you in your journey toward healing, growth, and change.

Really, whether mood problems, emotional difficulties, or cognitive challenges, the opportunity is to help folks live their lives with more energy, passion, and purpose.
My approach assumes that my clients are the best judges of what they need, that significant and lasting change can take place in every session, and that anyone can learn ways to create a more productive, purposeful, and passionate life. I love collaborating with my clients in creating and sustaining the changes they wish to make and surprising them with how quickly and deeply these changes can manifest. I have a broad range of experience with challenges clients may face, and have in-depth experience with trauma, teens, men's issues, and challenge of creating purpose and meaning.

You want to live the life you imagined for yourself; however, you find that self-criticism, painful past experiences, & negative feedback from others are taking up most of the space in your head. Your mental & physical energy are drained, leaving you feeling stuck and unmotivated. Your joy & hope are held captive & you find yourself in survival mode doing just what it takes to get through the day. You look at others & long for the success, confidence, & meaningful relationships that they seem to have mastered. You've tried many things (maybe even other therapists) & haven't achieved lasting change.

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT) Therapists

How does cognitive behavioral therapy work?

Cognitive behavioral therapy works by exploring how your thoughts affect your emotions and experiences. CBT helps you identify distortions in your thinking. For example, you may tend to jump to the worst case scenario catastrophizing or think in extremes (all-or-nothing thinking). A therapist can teach you how to push back against those thoughts to ultimately change your feelings and behavior for the better. They can also provide coping skills to better deal with stressors and challenges.

When do I know to seek treatment with cognitive behavioral therapy?

It’s reasonable to consider cognitive behavioral therapy if you struggle to manage difficult emotions or behaviors to such an extent that you are not getting the most out of life on a day-to-day basis. If you want a shorter term, concrete, skills-based approach, CBT is a great option. (By contrast, other types of therapy may devote more time to exploring your past and its effects.) The decision to seek CBT also depends on the condition you’re treating; CBT is an effective treatment for anxiety, depression, trauma, and many other disorders.

How can I find a cognitive behavioral therapist for someone else?

To find a cognitive behavioral therapist for someone else, you may want to begin by discussing the person’s problem, researching cognitive behavioral therapy, and assessing whether the approach is the right fit. You could then reach out to a few cognitive behavioral therapists in this directory, explain the scenario, have a consultation with those available, and determine who could be a good match.

Why is CBT such a popular form of therapy?

CBT has become a popular form of therapy because it is effective and accessible. Robust research has demonstrated that CBT is an effective treatment for many mental health conditions. And CBT can be learned in relatively few sessions, which means that many people can engage in the process, afford it, and see results quickly. It involves learning concrete skills such as disputing unhelpful thoughts; these skills can also be taught and spread widely.
