I provide trauma informed care and utilize EMDR, CBT/TF-CBT and Seeking Safety therapeutic modalities in addition to mindfulness, narrative and affirmative therapy techniques.
As a first-generation Spanish-speaking Mexican American I bring understanding to the struggle that comes with navigating generational trauma and cultural and sexual identity. I am aware of how cultural and sociopolitical factors impact our sense of well-being and relationships. Together we can work on overcoming the problems that adversely impact your life. We can also work on healing emotional wounds that may be keeping you stuck from moving forward. I will empower your journey as you cultivate better relationships, foster a happier sense of self and learn to embrace all aspects of your identity.

I am an EMDR trained clinician who is passionate about helping individuals and couples heal from emotional traumas or difficulties, reconnect with the self, and improve interpersonal relationships.
Relationships are one of the most impactful areas of our lives. If you are experiencing a lot of stress in your relationships, I can imagine the toll it is taking on your overall wellbeing. The quality of our childhood bonds can determine the patterns of our relationships in adulthood. Human connections can improve. With the help of a judgment-free professional and implementation of new skills, relationships can become healing and transformative. I believe that growth is achieved by the pairing of insight and the implementation of tools and techniques that will be learned in psychotherapy.

I am trained in EMDR therapy as well as utilize mindfulness, CBT and a family systems framework.
Struggling to adjust to a major life change? I help people who are experiencing anxiety, sadness, indecision and/or isolation stemming from a shift that has happened in their life. Whether it is a recent or pending break up, the loss of a loved one, or a recent move, change can be extremely challenging and anxiety provoking. Therapy gives you the space to talk about what's going on in your life and gives you the opportunity to learn new tools so you can successfully deal with what you're experiencing. It's easy to get trapped in unproductive patterns when you aren't where you thought you'd be in life, and therapy can stop that.

I am also trained in EMDR.
To THRIVE is a natural desire of being human; and yet we are often stuck in surviving. We want to feel effective, creative, and balanced. With nearly 20 years of practice, I've enjoyed building powerful, therapeutic relationships with Adolescents, Adults, Families, and groups in multiple settings. Together, we access and process change through collaborative, creative, narrative, strength-based approaches. Some common issues I work with are: anxiety, depression, life transitions, creative blocks, traumas, learning differences, and addiction.

EMDR Therapists
Who is EMDR for?
EMDR was initially developed as a treatment for individuals with Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), for whom memories of a deeply distressing experience can be inadvertently triggered by random everyday events. The procedure has since been applied in the treatment of many other conditions. For example, it is used by some therapists to treat anxiety disorders including panic and phobias, depression, dissociative disorders, eating disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorders, and some personality disorders. It is suitable for adolescents and adults.
Why do people need EMDR?
People need EMDR as a way to manage distressing memories that in some way hamper the ability to function in the present. The procedure is believed to target the way memories are stored in the brain. Evidence indicates that past disturbing experiences cause ongoing distress because they were not adequately processed, and when such memories are triggered in the present, they are accompanied by all the emotions, thoughts, and physical sensations as the initial experience.
What problems does EMDR treat?
First and foremost, EMDR is intended as a treatment for PTSD, to defuse distressing memories that intrude on and impair everyday functioning. It is also often used to help those who are subject to panic attacks, phobias, and other forms of anxiety. In addition, EMDR has been used to treat individuals with depression, eating disorders, and personality disorders.
What happens in EMDR therapy?
First the therapist takes an individual’s history, and then the therapist and client decide which distressing experience(s) will be the target(s) of the exercise, delivered via a side-to-side visual stimulus requiring lateral eye movements. The client will be asked to activate thoughts, feelings, and any body sensations related to the troubling experience. The eye movements are said to reduce the emotional charge of the memory, so that the experience can then be safely discussed with the therapist and digested, minimizing its ability to trigger anxiety.
