I specialize in working with survivors of sexual abuse, sexual assault and childhood trauma.
I wholeheartedly believe that human connection is built on trust and respect, within a safe space. I honor this belief and bring it into my therapeutic work. I meet each individual I have in front of me where they are, with an open mind and compassion. In doing this, I hope to support you in an inward journey of self-discovery and healing. I'm glad that you have made the step towards taking care of yourself and seeking support from someone that can guide you through this journey of healing. If healing for you means having to process a traumatic event, to perhaps transitioning through difficult moments in life, I'm here for you.

Trauma, shame, and abuse distort how we see ourselves and I am here to help you discover, "What might be," if you believed the truth about yourself.
I am passionate about helping people discover their purpose, by helping them find their identity. In a world full of opinions, there is only one that matters. The exploration of discovering who you are meant to be will be the greatest journey you pursue. Whether you struggle with insecurities, self-doubt, or are trying to find your "why" in life, I can help. I am also passionate about supporting spiritual leaders, as they lead their congregations. I understand the unique stressors they endure and I am here to be your ally.

I enjoy working with a variety of populations; children, families, couples, adolescents, and geriatric population. I am culturally diverse, and I am bilingual Spanish speaking and I enjoy meeting and hearing people's stories. I use art as a form of expression to allow people to express themselves when words are hard to access. I have many years experience working with children 0-5 and I have an Infant Mental Health Certificate from Santa Clara County. I recently got trained in EMDR (Eye Movement) processing. My goal as a therapist is to provide a safe trusting empathetic environment and to empower people to solve your own problems.

I strive to help my clients fully realize their sense of self, how to continue working on the self, and how to maintain it. I work (past and currently) in person with an extremely diverse range of clients; all over the spectrums of gender, sexuality, neurodiversity, race, culture, ethnicity. Our society can be extremely difficult to navigate and has a tendency to be highly isolating. I approach every client with a deep sense of empathy, openness, and understanding, without presuming to know exactly what each individual goes through. This is why I strongly prefer meeting clients in person, where I can build trust with my clients.

Growing up is hard and sometimes tough to navigate, for kids and parents! Between early childhood and young adulthood, there are many challenges that children face on a daily basis. Often times, daily tasks and transitions bring on stress and sometimes depression and anxiety. Events ranging from separation to assault can provoke traumatic stress in the youngest child. This stress may lead to behaviors like isolating, self harm, crying, bed wetting, refusing to participate in activities or acting out. Your child has their own way of coping with change, which may negatively affect their relationships with teachers, friends or parents.

**SESSIONS ARE CURRENTLY VIA VIDEO OR PHONE ONLY** Hopeless, stressed out, trauma, communication issues? It takes courage to face challenging situations in life and to decide to reach out to a mental health professional for counseling. I use counseling strategies that aim to alleviate emotional stress that occur in depression, anxiety, and emotional trauma in adults and children. Poor self-image and communication problems are areas that I feel confident to work with. My overall goal is to help alleviate your emotional pain and to help you find useful coping strategies for your personal needs.

I find it a privilege to work with adolescents and adults during periods of growth, transition, or challenge in their lives. My approach to therapy is primarily psychodynamic and depth-oriented, incorporating attachment theory, family systems and other somatic practices to help re-wire the nervous system. I believe we are wired for connection but breaks in relationship to ourselves and others can lead to depression, anxiety, numbing, distorting, shame, anger, addictions, and compulsions.

Seeking help can be intimidating and scary. Revealing the most vulnerable pieces of yourself to a stranger takes an incredible amount of courage and risk, and is often a barrier to people seeking help. However, simply reading this means you’re brave enough to take that risk and you’re already taking the initial steps toward living a life that you want for yourself. My goal is to help you in a timeframe that works for you. Therapy is a process and I believe it moves at your pace and in the direction you see fit. You’re the leader to your care because you are the expert in yourself. I’m simply here to help cultivate growth.

Hello! I’m Patricia Toscano. I am a Marriage and Family Therapist. I’ve been providing counseling to BIPOC for the past 12 years. When I first began my career, I never thought I’d become an expert at trauma, violence, and relationship issues. My career path has afforded me the privilege to help people with intimate relationship issues and concerns with violence and trauma. My ability to be fluent in Spanish and to understand the various factors related to the living experience of BIPOC has granted me the opportunity to guide my client’s in a better understanding of their lives and to help them come to a resolution.

Domestic Abuse Therapists

What are the most effective ways to recover from domestic abuse?

Leaving an abusive relationship requires tremendous courage, so survivors in treatment should recognize that they have already completed the most important step. Still, the trauma of physical or emotional abuse can be difficult to process and overcome. Therapy can help survivors process trauma, grief, and difficult emotions, treat relevant mental health symptoms, and create a new framework for boundaries and relationships in the future. For some, support groups can also be an invaluable outlet for healing.

When should an individual seek help for domestic abuse?

Victims of intimate partner violence should seek help immediately. It can take substantial time, planning, energy, and courage to leave an abusive relationship, but starting the process—by seeking therapy, calling the domestic violence hotline, or simply confiding in a loved one—will help them get there. Those who have left abusive relationships but haven’t sought treatment can also greatly benefit from therapy to process and heal from the experience.

What are the consequences of staying in an abusive relationship?

Remaining in an abusive relationship has serious repercussions. In addition to the ongoing threat of physical danger and emotional abuse, research shows that intimate partner violence is associated with a range of mental health disorders including depression, post-traumatic stress disorder, anxiety, and substance abuse. Therefore it’s important for individuals in an abusive relationship to seek help as soon as possible.

How can you get domestic abuse treatment for someone else?

It can be very complicated to identify and leave an abusive relationship; barriers include the threat of violence, financial instability, and family pressures. Those concerned about a loved one in an abusive relationship should talk to them about the situation, provide them with resources such as the domestic violence hotline, and introduce the idea of seeing a therapist due to their concern for the person’s safety and well-being.
