Life can be challenging and even overwhelming, whether it is due to grief and loss, relationship problems, a challenging child, anxiety or depression. We all need a little help once in a while. Sometimes it is difficult to see your options, but there are always options that are yours for the taking. My clients say my down-to-earth style, life experience and calming personality helped them to feel safe and comfortable so they can express themselves freely. Some of my specialty areas are parenting, perinatal mood disorders, anxiety, bonding and attachment, and couples therapy.

With my skill & training in EMDR (certified), Gottman Method (couples), & Yoga, I help people build connection, heal from pain, become aware of their body, mind & emotions.
Life can be wonderful & harmonious, & it can also be complicated. Often times, we go through life learning to hide parts of ourselves that have felt criticism, fear & other difficult emotions (rejection, hurt, etc.). We learn to ignore those difficult parts of ourselves due to shame & guilt, which can lead to sadness, worry, low self-esteem, trauma, and so on. These emotions & hurts can also affect the relationships around us (romantic, friendships, work, etc.), causing deeper pain & rejection. We notice our emotions, mind, & body’s reaction to situations that cause these parts to resurface & then struggle to cope.

Now Taking New Clients! Finding a therapist that you connect with is so important and personal; so much so that our relationship is the foundation for success in treatment. Helping people has always been my passion and I believe people have the internal tools necessary for positive change. I have worked with many different people throughout the years. These people have sought out therapy for many reasons. Life happens and challenges come up. Maybe it's older issues from childhood that have an impact now. Maybe it's brand new grieving the loss of a relationship. Maybe there is a feeling of being stuck.

My special interest is working with couples.
My role as a therapist, is to provide a safe, sacred place, allowing the pain and suffering to come forth and be processed in a collaborative respectful manner. I use my skills in depth therapy to help make the unconscious conscious leading to transformation of painful symptoms into new life meaning. I have 20 years of experience working in a social work department within a hospital setting. This taught me; people need to tell their story and be heard. In a world of technology and lack of human connection I offer the lost art of listening.

Couples Counseling Therapists

Does couples counseling work?

Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.

When should a couple seek counseling?

Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.

How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?

The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.

How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?

The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
