I know that finding a therapist can be a daunting task, especially when things are hard enough already! Maybe you are new to therapy or have been struggling for years to resolve anxiety, depression, relationship stress or past hurts and still unable to find relief. For 30 years I have been helping clients work through these and similar issues. Research and experience has taught me that a positive client-therapist relationship is key to a good therapy outcome. We are all authorities on our own life experience. Through active listening and dialogue, I strive to understand and attune to your unique experience with respect and care.

If your browsing this site it might be safe to say that you want to change something about your life. I welcome hearing your story and offer you a safe place to share your concerns. Sometimes we can find ourselves stuck and unsure how to make the shift away from dysfunctional patterns or lifestyles. Perhaps it's ongoing negative mental chatter, low self-worth, anger, addiction or heightened anxiety from a stressed out way of living that blocks that inner peace. I recognize your courage in reaching out. Please know that I am here to patiently offer guidance and reassurance as we journey together towards learning the tools of change.

After a career in finance, including stints in investment banking and mortgage securitization, I decided that I needed a career that was more about people and less about spreadsheets. To that end, I completed training to become a mental health counselor, which is now my chosen profession. Becoming an ally to those working to make meaningful personal change or just navigate life’s challenges more peacefully has proven to be a profoundly rewarding career decision.

My greatest passion is bringing healing to people who have been through traumatic/stressful experiences. I have helped clients that includes children, adults and families to help them find that health perception of themselves and strength in their relationships. I know that there's no single approach that is right to resolve past experience and it is different for every individual. My approach is listening to my clients needs and helping them find peace, complete, whole and safe. So what is an ideal client? That is hard to say as every client is unique with their needs and ways to approach them are always different.

Alcohol Use Therapists
Are there specific medications for alcohol use?
There are oral medications approved to treat alcohol use disorder—such as disulfiram, acamprosate, and naltrexone, which also comes in an injectable form. These medications do help people reduce their drinking as well as avoid the problem of relapse. Naltrexone helps reduce cravings, disulfiram can make a person feel sick when they drink, and acamprosate may help ease symptoms like poor sleep and anxious feelings.
How do alcohol recovery or rehabilitation programs work?
In inpatient programs, individuals live in a facility with other patients in recovery; in outpatient programs, individuals live at home. These facilities are staffed with healthcare professionals including physicians, nurses, psychologists, counselors, and psychotherapists. Staff can also include people who have recovered themselves, serving as mentors and guides. These programs may use abstinence, harm reduction, detoxification, psychotherapy, and other tools for recovery.
How do 12-step programs combined with psychotherapy work?
Members of 12-step programs help each other reach abstinence and work to maintain it. These programs promote complete change in the individual’s emotional, mental, physical, and even spiritual perspectives. Some programs require that new members attend 90 meetings in 90 days. Many people do attend these programs in conjunction with their work in psychotherapy; the combination of therapy along with 12-step can be extremely effective.
How does harm reduction combined with psychotherapy work?
According to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, harm reduction prevents death, injury, disease, overdose, and substance misuse. People who choose harm reduction for alcohol use reduce the amount of alcohol they intake. It is not abstinence-based like a 12-step program, but combining harm reduction with psychotherapy proves to be effective for many people.
