Hello! I’m Patricia Toscano. I am a Marriage and Family Therapist. I’ve been providing counseling to BIPOC for the past 12 years. When I first began my career, I never thought I’d become an expert at trauma, violence, and relationship issues. My career path has afforded me the privilege to help people with intimate relationship issues and concerns with violence and trauma. My ability to be fluent in Spanish and to understand the various factors related to the living experience of BIPOC has granted me the opportunity to guide my client’s in a better understanding of their lives and to help them come to a resolution.

I use my skills as a therapist, artist, and my experience in a 29-year relationship to help clients examine their lives, heal from the past, and create connections with themselves and others that bring forth love and vitality.
INDIVIDUAL THERAPY: You are one of a kind. There has never been anyone like you and never will be again. Therapy is a place where you have the opportunity to know yourself in a deep and intimate way. The journey towards wholeness begins with embracing (and discovering) our many and often rejected parts that comprise our authentic self. Wounds, triggers and defenses exist for a reason and represent the internal maps that lead to healing. COUPLES THERAPY: Relationships are the path to knowing who we are and I believe that what needs to be healed presents itself through the struggles and dynamics that get activated in partnership.

I have been in the therapy field for 10 years and have worked primarily with eating disorders, highly sensitive people, families, couples, and narcissistic/codependent relationship patterns, including those involving abuse.
If you struggle with low self worth, setting boundaries, losing yourself in your relationships, feeling over stimulated and overwhelmed by life, lack of self and intuitive and body connection, we might be a particularly aligned fit to work together. If you are struggling in your relationship with food and/or body image I can offer you support and hope for healing. I am an attachment-oriented therapist when it comes to supporting the parent/child relationship. I believe that when working with children and youth it is vitally important to work congruently with parents and caregivers as well.

“I can’t take this _______ anymore, but I just don’t know what else to do”. If you’re willing to fill in the blank, you’ve taken the first step. The next step is finding an experienced therapist with whom you have a good fit: a relationship that includes trust, empathy and compassion. Ultimately I have found this lead to new possibilities, often from identifying and endorsing new perspectives and behaviors.

For some people that may come through healing past wounds, a life-transition, overcoming grief, coming out of depression or perhaps breaking an old habit or relationship pattern.
I am inspired by transformation, by the possibilities, freedom, and implications of deep personal change. I’ve seen it in myself and my clients. Moving from stagnation to aliveness, from isolation to love. I’m honored to work with you on your path of healing, self-discovery, growth, and transformation.

Additionally I am trained in Love and Logic Parenting Method, Burns Anxiety Therapy, and Gottman Relationship Work.
My approach to therapy is to encourage a persons strengths; which, by using their history as a guide, we together, focus on finding practical ways to bring healing and hope to their present challenges. I often work with couples who are wanting to improve communication and closeness, individuals in their teens through mid 50's who are trying to realize their individuality, and children struggling with issues they are unsure how to cope with.

Common approaches I use: early caregiver experiences' influence on current relationship patterns; trauma processing (training in EMDR); neuroscience; mindfulness; somatic focus on internal experiences; parts work; challenging oppressive norms and socialization; highlighting strengths and your capacity to grow and get unstuck; EFT for intimate partners.
I view therapy as an opportunity to provide you with warmth and validation as we explore the life you’ve lived, what you need most, and the future you're planning. I believe in everyone’s capacity for personal and relational fulfilment, to feel empowered no matter what you've gone through! In fact, our experiences with trauma, hardship, mental health struggles, discrimination, racism, and not feeling like we belong all shape us into richly complex, resilient humans deserving of acceptance and inner-peace.

The work you and I will do together is focused on your goals and needs and capitalizes on your strengths. My assessment process takes into account the biological, psychological, social, emotional, spiritual, and cultural aspects of your life. Once that assessment is completed, you and I will explore the issues and needs that you are trying to manage by utilizing a "motivational interviewing" approach. We then work to discover the maladaptive behaviors and coping mechanisms; and explore healthy, productive, and strengths-based strategies for getting these needs met.

No matter who you are, we all can benefit from talking to someone who can offer support, practical skills and hope when life gets rough. From these life challenges we learn and grow. I see this as an opportunity to dive into what can sometimes be uncomfortable but what will ultimately set you free. I seek to offer a safe environment where you feel truly heard and seen for who you are. Where your differences are a strength and your challenges are met with compassion and insight. I seek to nurture the spark of passion for life in you so that it grows to a life where you find meaning and fulfillment and even joy.

Relationship Issues Therapists
While need for human connection appears to be innate, the ability to form healthy, loving relationships is learned. Some evidence suggests that the ability to form a stable relationship starts to form in infancy, in a child's earliest experiences with a caregiver who reliably meets the infant's needs for food, care, warmth, protection, stimulation, and social contact. Such relationships are not destiny, but they are theorized to establish deeply ingrained patterns of relating to others. The end of a relationship, however, is often a source of great psychological anguish.
