My philosophy centers around creating a nurturing and empathetic environment where children can communicate, process, and heal through play.
In my practice, I have the privilege of working closely with children and parents, witnessing the transformation as children regain emotional balance, learn to understand their feelings, and improve their self-esteem. I strive to offer a safe and trusting space where children can freely express themselves and parents can find a focused plan of action that works to strengthen family bonds and promote healthy relationships. With a background in social work and years of experience as a Board Certified Behavior Analyst, I've refined a unique and effective approach to supporting children on their journey towards emotional well-being.

I believe that positive changes can happen with you and your child by incorporating play therapy techniques with somatic, mindful and eclectic approaches that are foundationally trauma-informed.
If you are here because you are concerned with the mental health of your child, or your relationship with them, you are in the right place! I specialize in child, individual, and family therapy, identifying and working toward goals using empathy, compassion, and insight in a safe and non-judgmental environment. By using non-directive and directive play therapy activities, collaboration, promotion of healthy communication and behavior patterns, you will see a shift in your child, and your relationship as a family system.

Play Therapy techniques can be used at any age! I use non-directive play therapy, sand tray, expressive arts and EMDR to create a safe relationship where my clients can express themselves freely.
Welcome to the playroom! Play is the language of children, making it the most effective way to treat their mental health. Play Therapy makes it safe for kids to express things that are too hard to talk about and allows them to process experiences in a way that make sense. Imaginary dragons fought during therapy will help a child figure out how to win the battles of their own life. I use the power of play to join in, letting me see things from their perspective. By fighting these battles together, the playroom becomes a place where kids learn who they truly are and how to cope, resulting in healing, hope and connection.

I believe that healing and growth are innate human capacities which can become overwhelmed by powerful and/or chronic stressors. My priorities for our healing relationship are to ensure a sense of safety for you in the therapy process, as well as collaborativity. I have developed a process that I call Developmental Mindfulness to promote wellness on the somatic, emotional, and cognitive levels of human experience. I integrate somatic modalities, archetypal psychology, art therapy, play therapy, the fundamentals of qigong and yoga, Internal Family Systems, narrative strategies, cognitive strategies, and nutritional psychology.

Are you at a place in your life where you need some support and guidance to move forward? It may feel like you’ve done all you can, and you’re not sure what to do next. It may even feel like past patterns, keep repeating themselves. You’re not alone. Change is hard, and there are many reasons why our past and the ways we’ve learned to relate in the world keep giving us the same results. The good news is that we can always learn new ways of being and relating, and new ways to move forward We can find new meaning and continue to learn and grow. I hope that you will take this next step on your path of healing.

No matter who you are, we all can benefit from talking to someone who can offer support, practical skills and hope when life gets rough. From these life challenges we learn and grow. I see this as an opportunity to dive into what can sometimes be uncomfortable but what will ultimately set you free. Being a parent can activate so much in us. There are moments of incredible joy, wonder and connection. There is so much exhaustion. There are times that can feel like they are draining your spirit. In these times you can feel like a hollow, empty shell going through the motions of life and parenthood. It can feel like there is a fog of stress and anxiety hanging over even the sunniest of days. It can feel so far away from what you imagined. This spirit draining feeling has a powerful message for you. Somewhere along the way you lost your connection to yourself.

I enjoy working with individuals, teens & children who experience fear, anxiety, obsessions, trauma, depression, ADHD & learning disabilities. I also enjoy supporting parents through their children's struggles including the need for 504s/IEPs as well as adult’s late diagnosis of ADHD. I've been doing couples work for over 10 years using the evidence-based research of John Gottman PhD which I find to be highly effective. Its tools allow for comprehensive & practical use outside of therapy that help improve communication & closeness, & strengthen & repair relationships.

My expertise is in using verbal and nonverbal methods ( play, sand tray, and art therapies) with clients of all ages.
Hi there! I know finding a therapist can be daunting, and hope my profile helps you to decide if we will be a good fit. I have been doing this work for several years and find that providing a safe place for people to find hope, peace, healing, connection, and laughter is the most rewarding (and sometimes hardest) work we do in therapy. I have worked with clients and families of all ages and backgrounds and have found that we usually ask for help when we no longer know how to make things better. We all deserve healthy, hopeful lives and relationships, and therapy is a place to build the skills to help you find those things.

As a play therapist for children, adolescents, and even adults, I have witnessed clients evolve from feelings of loneliness, loss, confusion, fear and anxiety, to embracing empowerment, self-confidence, trust and respect for self and others.
Blending conventional and alternative approaches I empower children, adolescents, and adults to reach their therapeutic goals. It is my belief that all children, regardless of age or race, speak their own unique language based on their unique life experiences. This language expresses who they are and what they need in order to live a more functional and productive life. My mission is to interpret that language and offer innovative strategies that foster positive growth and maturity. It is not only a challenge to change, grow, and learn. As a member of the human race, I feel it is an obligation!

In my work with individuals, couples, children, teens and families I strive to create a warm, nurturing and compassionate environment for personal exploration and healing. In this space all parts of you are welcome. I see therapy as a collaboration where you and I partner to create an achievable plan to improve your relationships, increase your sense of vitality, and work towards your personal goals. In my work, I have witnessed how life's challenges can create emotional scars that then consciously or unconscious run our lives. These scars can manifest as a variety of mental health and relational issues.

Play Therapy

Who is play therapy for?

Play therapy is generally targeted to children between the ages of 3 and 11 who have social, emotional, or behavioral difficulties. Play therapy has also been found helpful for children who have experienced physical or emotional abuse or witnessed atrocities. Play therapy is also often recommended for children who are undergoing major medical procedures or who are suffering from chronic illness; many children’s hospitals are equipped to offer play therapy on-site. Play therapy is also sometimes used for adults; creative writing, music, and art are expressive forms that can all be adapted for therapeutic purposes.

Why do people need play therapy?

Children often do not have the language skills or words to know or to express what is troubling them. Yet they often spontaneously draw or use playthings to depict scenarios that reflect problems in their everyday life. Play therapy provides children with an array of objects and play situations to act out their feelings or experiences so that therapists can get a clear picture of what children might be struggling with and help them find solutions. In addition, play therapists are skilled at helping children understand their inner experience and find words for them, necessary steps toward helping children learn to control their own behavior and come up with solutions to problems they encounter.

What happens in play therapy?

A child enters a comfortable playroom where they are free to choose the objects they want to play with. The play therapist will typically observe how they play with the toys—whether a sandbox, puppets, dolls and action figures, trucks, costumes, drawing and painting materials, or more—because such play provides clues to a child’s family and social relationships, difficulties they are encountering in the world, and what going on inside themselves. Sometimes the therapist may ask the child to use the play objects to tell a story about their family. Using the same instruments of play, therapists can help children discover more advantageous ways of thinking and behaving.

What kinds of problems do play therapists treat?

Play therapy can help children who display destructive or self-destructive impulses; children who seem angry, sad, or fearful; children who experience frequent social, emotional, family, or school difficulty. Play therapy is often of value to children who have experienced a loss or distressing family experience, who are regularly exposed to family conflict, or who have been physically or emotionally abused. Play therapy can help children who are perpetrators of bullying as well as those who are targets of bullying. It helps children learn to identify their feelings, to express them in constructive ways, and to regulate them so they can get on with the business of development.

How long does play therapy last?

Play therapy sessions may last for 30 to 45 minutes, and they usually occur weekly for about 20 sessions. Each session is tailored to the individual child and the kinds of problems they are struggling with. Play that is highly repetitive often indicates a problem requiring further exploration. Therapists typically measure progress through session-to-session changes in play behavior.
