I specialize in cognitive behavioral and dialectical behavioral therapies.
Take a quick pause and google Dialectical Behavior Therapy or " DBT." DBT is an evidenced-based cognitive behavioral therapy that provides specific skills to increase our emotion regulation, distress tolerance, interpersonal skills, and ability to live in the present moment (aka mindfulness).

I am an Associate Marriage and Family Therapist who seeks to build trust and respect with my clients as we work together to achieve positive change. I have a background in psychodynamic and attachment-based therapies which I use to help clients gain insight into their past, understand how it is impacting their present, and empower them to pave their future path. Seeing your child struggle with anxiety is such a helpless feeling. Your daughter is paralyzed with fear about what others may think of her, and nothing that you say can comfort her. Your son freezes on homework and tests, feeling that everything must be perfect, and you feel guilty, as you wonder if you've passed these anxious thoughts down to him. Sunday night comes and they're preoccupied with the thought of the impending school week, and no matter how rational you are with them, they can't shake the dread that comes with going to school.

Seeing your child struggle is such a helpless feeling. You wish you could find the right words that would fix it all, but nothing that you say, and no amount of logic that you use seems to help. Perhaps you have even tried therapy before, with little progress or success, and you're not sure if this is even a fixable problem. Your child's struggles have become the focus of the entire family. You just want your happy little boy or girl back and to have normalcy restored at home.

Sometimes, life holds nothing back. We’re totally overwhelmed. It’s all too much. Too much busy-ness, too much hurry, and too much stress. While you’re a master of taking care of everything and everyone around you, taking care of YOU is often forgotten. And your regular pattern of “go, go, go…” leads to anxiety, burnout, or trauma. And so, you’re just…exhausted. You know something has to change. You know life has more to offer. But you’re not sure where to start.

If you opened this profile, I would have to guess you're considering starting or resuming therapy services. The "why" for seeking therapy services is harder to guess. Maybe someone you know, or a random ad or commercial, said it could be helpful so you're checking it out. Maybe you're facing a major decision & don't know what to do; or the minor everyday decisions have piled up & you don't know how or where to start. It could be that you feel stuck, tired, & unmotivated; insecure & anxious or even just depressed. Perhaps you have been a bit lost, unfocused, & confused; wanting things to change, yet dreading the question "why?"

I work with couples and adults struggling with depression, anxiety, relationship distress, phase of life issues, and loss of self. I also work with men on emotional tolerance, emotional expression, self-advocacy, crises of purpose, and gaining comfort with vulnerability. We all face our own unique challenges in our everyday lives. These challenges can range from inspiring to overwhelming, from motivating to diminishing, and anything in between. Sometimes it can be relatively easy to get lost in the vast ocean of life, and we may not even realize anything is off until we are already lost at sea, adrift amongst the waves.

We draw on aspects of cognitive and dialectical behavioral therapy, mindfulness, EMDR, psychodynamic, and biofeedback to assist patients in improving their symptoms, relationships, self-image, and coping strategies.
One of the most important aspects in therapy is for patients to feel heard, respected, and understood. Given that each individual is unique, and no one issue is ever the same among different people, our approach is integrative and tailored to meet the needs of the person, not the "problem". we strive to create a compassionate, non-judgemental environment for patients to learn, grow, explore, challenge, and to live the life they want to be living. We specialize in working with adults - individual, couples, and family - with anxiety, depression, PTSD/trauma, relationship problems, substance abuse, ADD/ADHD, and LGBTQ issues.

I utilize versatile interventions such as IFS, CBT, DBT, Solution Focused Therapy, Narrative, and Inner Child Work.
Mental health challenges are due to the aftereffects of traumatic experiences. Trauma can place a strain on your family, work, relationships, and even cause issues with self-worth. I specialize in trauma therapy along with treating personality disorders, depression, anxiety, ADHD, and addiction. All these disorders can look different from person to person, and that is where our therapeutic journey of empowerment and self-exploration begins. I concentrate on creating a safe space of growth and self-discovery through unconditional positive regard, emotional regulation, and guided activities.

Dialectical Behavior (DBT) Therapists

Who is DBT for?

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is designed for people who experience extreme emotional suffering because they lack the skills of emotion regulation and distress tolerance. The basic affliction can underlie a wide range of conditions, from borderline and other personality disorders to PTSD and treatment-resistant anxiety and depression. The therapy is helpful to those whose emotional reactivity is so intense it is disruptive to everyday functioning and leads to frequent crises.

Why do people need DBT?

The ability to regulate emotions is a core psychological skill that enables people to function in life and pay attention to the world outside themselves; it is consistently associated with well-being. DBT is designed to help people learn how to manage and regulate their emotions. Originally developed to treat people with borderline personality disorder whose extreme emotional suffering led to self-harming behavior and suicide attempts, the therapy is now applied to other conditions involving emotion dysregulation, particularly when other treatments have failed.

What happens in DBT?

Individuals meet weekly with their therapist to discuss their experiences relating to moods, behavior, and skills. Using checklists they maintain, they review emotional experiences and positive practices they engage in. The diaries help individuals discern what led up to a specific problem encountered, this is followed by discussion of the consequences of their actions. In addition, individuals may meet in class-like small groups to learn skills such as mindfulness, emotion regulation and distress tolerance.

How long does DBT last?

Because it is intended to establish long-lasting behavioral change among those with persistent problems, DBT is designed to last six months to a year. DBT includes both weekly sessions of individual therapy and weekly skills-training sessions conducted in small groups. Studies of DBT have documented improvement within a year of treatment, particularly in controlling self-harmful behavior; nevertheless, individuals may require therapy for several years.
