I hope to help everyone see their internal strengths to reclaim Balance in their lives and live in the present moment. So many times, people ask me, “Why did you go into this work?” It took a long time to figure it out because it felt like a part of me. It then dawned on me that I saw my parents help many people reclaim their voices, advocate for themselves, and receive support when needed. Watching this from an early age taught me to share this with others naturally. I’ve been down my road of imbalance, lack of peace, and feeling lost in thoughts. I know that moving out of this place can’t be done alone.

I approach therapy from a trauma-informed, client-centered lens focused on empathy and compassion to support the creation of long-term, effective changes. I strive to equip my clients with the hope that it is normal to feel any and every kind of emotion but also give them tools to cope effectively and learn from those emotions. My goal is to provide a trusting environment to uncover those human emotions, find what works or does not work, and collaborate to reach new and healthier goals for life.

Relief from pain is possible.
You are so done with having to drag yourself out of bed, drinking 10 cups of coffee just to feel something, and giving self-inflicted pep talks that don't friggin' work! Maybe your friends or family don't even notice and they think you're doing GREAT! In reality it’s a struggle keeping it together. You’re white knuckling it and somehow managing to save face. If you’ve made it here, you’re ready to work through what’s bothering you so that life can feel less painful. Whether you’re going through trauma, anxiety, depression, chronic pain, or relationship issues you’re in the right place.

I have found the use of hypnosis to be especially beneficial to help reduce stress/anxiety, reinforce positive coping skills, manage pain, enhance performance, and facilitate the grieving process.
I believe that, at the unconscious level, each of us has a deep understanding of what our unique purpose is (i.e. a true sense of Self). However, through conditioning, life circumstances, cultural/societal expectations, and many other variables, there has grown a great disconnect between the way we are and who we truly want to be. In a safe, supportive and collaborative environment, I will help you navigate through this process of deeper self-understanding and reconnection in order to live a healthier, happier and more fulfilling life.

Chronic Pain Therapists

How does chronic pain therapy work?

Engaging with a psychotherapist to help treat chronic pain does not mean that one’s pain is all in their head. Therapy for chronic-pain patients has been shown to benefit both the mind and the body, targeting physical symptoms and increasing daily functioning. In other words, for many, addressing their emotional health through therapy affects their physical health. A therapist can help a client challenge unhelpful thoughts about pain and develop new ways to respond to it, such as distraction or calming breathing techniques. Studies have found that therapy can be as effective as surgery for certain cases of chronic pain and many doctors recommend trying psychotherapy in advance of considering invasive surgery.

What are the most effective treatment options for chronic pain?

Stress, anxiety, depression, catastrophizing, ruminating, lack of activity, and social withdrawal all make chronic pain worse. Addressing these issues, research shows, can help people gain control over their pain symptoms. Therapeutic approaches such as cognitive behavioral therapy, biofeedback, and mindfulness-based stress reduction, along with greater pain-management education, have been found to help people reduce fear and disability.

Are there new treatments for chronic pain?

Many cases of chronic pain, particularly those involving back pain, remain medically unexplained. But there is evidence that changes in the brain or nervous system are caused by previous physical ailments such as tissue damage; in such cases, the brain may continue to send out pain signals despite the physical cause having healed. To aid patients under these circumstances, a recently developed treatment known as pain reprocessing therapy (PRT) is designed to help the brain “unlearn” this response. A PRT practitioner helps individuals to reduce the “threat value” of their ongoing pain signals until they can reappraise them as less threatening and fear-inducing. They also help an individual to develop new emotional regulation skills.

How long does therapy for chronic pain take?

There is no set timeline for recovery from chronic pain, especially as there may be a range of physical and psychological causes for any individual’s discomfort, but most patients should expect to see a therapist for a number of weeks or months, typically spanning at least 12 sessions. Studies of pain reprocessing therapy found that many individuals’ experience of pain lessened in eight sessions over four weeks.
